[Objective]To investigate the effect of three-dimensional computered tomographic(3DCT)reconstruction on the classification of operation for congenital elevation of the scapula and choice of congenital elevation of the scapula.[Method]Twenty-two patients with congenital elevation of the scapula were scanned with serial spiral CT and the images were three-dimensionally reconstraucted before operation. The scapular altitude difference of both sides were measured with the reference of scapular spine.Different appropriate operations which based on these results and Cavendish's classification were chosen for different patients.[Result]Twenty-two patients were followed-up for 2 years to 4 years, the appearance and the range of motion were improved without injuries of nerve, vessel and spine.[Conclusion]The pathological changes of congenital elevation of the scapula could be displayed clearly by 3DCT,so it is beneficial to choose the methods of operation and avoiding complications.

Objective To summarize our experience in the diagnosis and management of popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (PAES). Methods This is a retrospective study on 10 patients (13 limbs)who were admitted for symptoms of claudication and the diagnosis of popliteal entrapment was established either with angiography, computed tomographic angiography, magnetic resonance angiogram or during the operation in recent 7 years (2002-2009).All patients were treated surgically. Results The mean age at the time of presentation was (25 ±7) years old (range,17-41 years).Claudication was the most frequent presenting symptom (12 limbs). The surgical procedures consisted of simple musculotendinous dissociation in 1 limb, thrombectomy with balloon angioplasty in 1 limb, musculotendinous dissociation plus thromboendarterectomy with autogenous saphenous vein (ASV)patch angioplasty in 2 limbs,ASV graft interposition or bypass in 6 limbs and graft interposition or bypass in 3 limbs. At a median follow-up of (35 ±27) months (range,2 months-7 years),there were no intraoperative or long-term postoperative complications and all the patients were cured. Conclusions PAES is an unusual but important cause of peripheral vascular insufficiency especially in young patients.A combined approach is necessary for diagnosis.Popliteal artery release alone or with vein bypass or reconstruction is the treatment of choice.

Objective To determine the diagnosis and the prognosis of acute bilineal leukemia(aBLL).Methods The cases who had been morphologicaUy diagnosed as acute leukemia were retrospectively screened. The characteristics of aBLL blasts and the patients'responses to chemotherapy and the survival rate were identified based on the analysis of both their clinical and laboratory data. Results From total of 352 cases screened,11 cases of aBLL were identified. The incidence of aBLL was 3.1%.Among them 4 were male and 7 female. The median age was 38 years old.The median counts of white blood cell at the onset of the disease was 56.3×109/L.There were more My/B aBLL subtype cases than My/T aBLL (8 cases vs.3 cases). Cytogenefie analysis data were available for 7 cages. All were standard karyotypes except 1 who had complex karyotypie change. The complete remission(CR)rate of chemotherapy was 45.5%(5/11)and the response rate(CR+PR)Wag 54.5%(6/11).Only 2 patients achieved CR after the first course of induction chemotherapy. The median of remission duration was 11 months, ranged from 3 to 14 months. The median of survival time was 10 month. ranged from 1 to 23 months. 1 patient died during the induction course. Conclusion aBLL is a rare subtype of acute leukemia. The diagnosis of the disease could be based on the combinational analysis of morphology and immunophenotype study. The patients'responses to the conventional chemotherapy regimens were not satisfied. Therefore, the prognosis of the disease was poor.

Objective To study the apoptosis-inducing effect of recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 8 with soluble TRAIL gene on human colon cancer cell line HCT116. Method Recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 8 with TRAIL gene was generated by triple plasmid transfection of HEK293 cells with phosphate calcium precipitation. After infected by recombinant virus, cell growth assay was carried out by counting alive cells after trypan blue exclusion. Alternations of cell morphology was examined by microscopy. Cell apoptosis was detected by DNA laddering. The protein expressions of apoptosis-3 and apoptosis-8 were detected by Western blotting. Result The growth rate of the AAV8-sTRAIL infected HCT116 cells was significantly inhibited. Recombinant virus induced apoptosis in colon tumor cells by triggering caspase cascade, but not in normal human hepatocytes. Conclusion AAV8-sTRAIL efficiently suppresses the growth of human colon cancer cell line HCT116 by inducing apoptosis, with no evident toxicity to normal cell.

Objective To study the protective effects of taurine on liver and kidney injury induced by intestinal ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) in rats. Methods Male Wistar rats were randomly assigned into Sham,I/R,and taurine groups.Thirty min before operation,2% taurine(200 mg/kg) was injected via dorsal vein of the rat′s penis.Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion was produced by occlusion of superior mesenteric artery for one hour later, then the blood flow was restored by removing the clamps.Blood samples were taken from rats in I/R and taurine groups at 1.5,3,6 and 12h after reperfusion, and the serum levels of ALT,AST,BUN and Cr were measured to evaluate the functions of liver and kidney.Tissues from livers and kidneys were cryostated and stained with hematoxylin and eosin to observe changes in histological pathology.TUNEL was also performed to examine apoptotic cells and the average light density levels were measured. Results The serum levels of ALT,AST,BUN and Cr in I/R group were significantly higher than those in Sham group(P
