Objective:To develop a method for the determination of natural benzoic acid in Mesona chinensis Benth. with different production places and storage time. Methods:HPLC was adopted, the column was an Agilent ZORBAX SB-C18 (250 mm × 4. 6 mm, 5 μm) column, the mobile phase was methanol-0. 02 mol·L-1 ammonium acetate (5∶95) at the flow rate of 1. 0 ml·min-1 , the col-umn temperature was 35℃, the detection wavelength was 230 nm, and the injection vocume was 10μl. Results:Benzoic acid showed good linearity over the concentration range of 0. 1-10. 0 μg·ml-1(r=0. 999 9). The average recovery was 99. 59%(RSD=1. 57%, n=9). Natural benzoic acid in powered Mesona chinensis Benth. was different because of various production places. The maximum content of natural benzoic acid in Mesona chinensis Benth. was 141. 8 mg·kg-1, while the minimum content was 73. 8 mg·kg-1. The content of natural benzoic acid in Mesona chinensis Benth. stored for two years was declined obviously. Conclusion: The method with simple operation is accurate and reproducible. It can provide a basis for the further study of Mesona chinensis Benth. resources, and provide a reference for the content determination of natural benzoic acid in other plants.

Objective To investigate the influence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) to clinical outcome in adult patients and the risk factor. Methods 122 patients after operation on chest were surveyed with Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised China (WAIS-RC) within 3 d before operation and on the 7th day after operation. Their pulmonary functions were measured before discharged. Their time on bed, total time in hospital, time after operation in hospital, time in intensive care unit and spending for therapy were investigated. Results 45 patients were finally diagnosed as POCD (POCD group) 7 d after operation. Before operation, the age, the body weight index, the smoking index and the number of risk factor of angiosclerosis in the POCD group were all higher than those whose cognitive function were normal (normal group) (P<0.05). The sores of insight, count, digit scope, vocabulary, figure collocation, figure patch of WAIS-RC in POCD group were obviously lower than those in normal group (P<0.05). Every index of pulmonary function in POCD group was lower than those in normal group(P<0.05). The time keeping on bed, total time in hospital, time after operation in hospital, time in intensive care unit and spending for therapy in POCD group all exceeded those in normal group (P<0.05).Conclusion The adult patients with POCD may spend more time and money for therapy in hospital, and their pulmonary functions may be recovered poorly.

Objective We detected the expression of the low risk HPV6/11 and the high risk HPV16/18 in cervical lesions in order to investigate the correlativity,mechanism and clinical values between them.Methods We chosed 150 cases of cervical disease tissues that included chronic cervicitis (30 cases).cervieal condyloma without atypia(30 cases),CIN Ⅰ(30 cases),CIN Ⅲ(30 cases)and cervical squamous cell carcinoma (30 cases).And all of them were constructed into tissue microarrays(TMA)that include 300 spots.Then,the expression of HPV6/11 and HPV16/18 were determined by in situ hybridization.Results The positive expression rates of HPV6/11 were 13.33%,90%,33.33%,0 and 0 respectively in chronic cervicitis,cervical condyloma without atypia,CIN Ⅰ,CIN Ⅲ and cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Condyloma showed significantly higher HPV6/11 infection rates than the other groups(P＜0.001).And there were obvious dliference between CIN Ⅰ and CIN Ⅲ & carcinoma (P=0.001.＜0.05).The spearman correlation analysis suggested that the expression of HPV6/11 in the five cervical deseases was negative correlation (rs=-0.037,P＜0.001).The positive rates of HPV16/18 were 0,6.67%,10%.56.67%.76.67% respectively in chronic cervicitis,cervical condyloma without atypia,CIN Ⅰ,CIN Ⅲ and cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Comparing CIN Ⅲ and carcinoma with the other groups,the positive rates were obvious defrerence between them (P＜0.001).But there was not significant defference between CIN Ⅲ and carcinoma (P=0.10).The spearman correlation analysis suggested that the expression of HPV16/18 in the five cervical deseases was positive correlation (rs=0.628,P＜0.001).Conclusion Low risk HPV6/11 is a main reason for the cervical condyloma and CIN Ⅰ.High risk HPV16/18 is closely related with CIN Ⅲ and carsinoma.and also a main reason for CIN Ⅲ and carcinoma.Detecting and differentiating HPV type will help for the diagnosis and monitor of cervical lesions,especially,it will be very important to prophylaxis,early diagnosis and early therapy of cervical carcinoma.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), which can be introduced in brain tissue by the strategies of brain parenchyma, blood and neurolymph transplantation, to repair tissue injury and promote functional recovery of neural system, have been considered as the ideal seed cells for the treatment of central nervous system diseases. However, as the special structure exists in the blood-brain barrier, study on correlation between MSCs and blood-brain barrier permeability will make it possible for more MSCs to pass the barrier to perform the treatment. This paper gives a review on the latest research development in the field.

Objective To raise the vigilance for pregnancy complicated with acute abdominal diseases and to reduce the maternal mortality rate. Methods A retrospective study was done. Results (1) The maternal mortality of pregnancy complicated with acute abdominal diseases was 1 31/10 5 in the period of 1989～1993, which was significantly higher than that in the period of 1994～1998 (0 71/10 5). (2) The main cause of maternal deaths was misdiagnosis and the rate of misdiagnosis was 72 7%.(3) Among the acute abdominal diseases, pregnancy complicated with pancreatitis ranked the first that accounted for 54 6%. Conclusions For the purpose of reducing the mortality rate of pregnancy complicated with acute abdominal diseases, the correct diagnosis and proper treatment especially for those with acute pancreatitis are important.

Objectives To find problems in the systematic management of maternal health and to provide evidence for developing effective interventions to reduce maternal mortality in Shanghai. Methods Every maternal death from 2000 to 2009 was audited by experts and relevant informations were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results ( 1 ) Number of live births. The number of live births in Shanghai rised from 84 898 in 2000 to 187 335 in 2009, which increased by 120. 7%. Notably, the number of live births of migrating people increased 4. 6 times. In 2000, it took up 25.5% and in 2009, it rose to 54. 8%. ( 2 )Maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and its composition. The total live births from 2000 to 2009 was 1 279 010,among which there were 262 maternal deaths, with average maternal mortality of 20. 48 per 100 000 live birth (262/1 279 010). For Shanghai residents, the MMR was 8.09 per 100 000 live births (55/680 005 ),while the MMR of migrating people was 34. 56 per 100 000 live births ( 207/599 005 ). ( 3 ) Trends of MMR. The MMR declined from 21.2 per 100 000 live births in 2000 to 9.61 per 100 000 live births in 2009. The MMR of Shanghai residents maintained below 10 per 100 000 live births with exception of year 2003 and 2004. The MMR of migrating people declined sharply. In 2002 it was 77.42 per 100 000 live births, and in 2009 it decreased to 11. 69 per 100 000 live births. (4)The composition of causes of maternal deaths and rank order. The top 5 causes of deaths were obstetric hemorrhage (69 cases, 26. 3% of the total deaths), pregnancy induced hypertension (27 cases, 10. 3% of the total deaths), heart diseases (24 cases,9. 2% of the total deaths), liver diseases ( 17 cases, 6. 5% of the total deaths), amniotic fluid embolism and ectopic pregnancy ( 15 cases respectively, 5.7% of the total deaths). ( 5 ) The changes of causes between the first 5 years and the latter 5 years. The MMR of ectopic pregnancy, heart diseases and pregnancy induced hypertension changed significantly in Shanghai residents. The MMR of ectopic pregnancy decreased from 1.36 per 100 000 live births in the first 5 years to 0. 26 per 100 000 live births in the latter 5 years. The MMR of heart diseases decreased from 1.36 per 100 000 live births to 0. 52 per 100 000 live births. While the MMR of pregnancy induced hypertension increased from 0 to 0. 78 per 100 000 live births. For migrating population, the MMR of obstetric hemorrhage, ectopic pregnancy and pregnancy induced pregnancy deceased significantly. As the primary cause, the MMR of obstetric hemorrhage deceased from 21.85 per 100 000 live births in the first 5 years to 5.47 per 100 000 live births in the second 5 years. The MMR of ectopic pregnancy decreased from 4. 37 per 100 000 live births to 0. 68 per 100 000 live births. And the MMR of pregnancy induced hypertension decreased from 6. 87 per 100 000 live births to 2. 96 per 100 000 live births.(6) Direct obstetric causes and indirect obstetric causes of maternal deaths. Among the 262 deaths,141 cases (53. 8% ) were due to Direct obstetric causes and 121 (46. 2% ) were due to indirect obstetric causes. (7)The trend of MMR of obstetric hemorrhage. The MMR of obstetric hemorrhage declined from 10. 6 per 100 000 live births in 2000 to 1.7 per 100 000 live births in 2009. ( 8 ) The results of maternal death audit. The results of maternal death audit were classified into 3 categories: 41 cases ( 15.6% )belonged to the first category, i. e, avoidable deaths; 66 cases (25.2%) belonged to the second category,i. e, avoidable when creating some conditions; and 155 cases (59. 2% ) belonged to the third category,which means not avoidable. Among 55 deaths of Shanghai residents, 17 cases (30. 9% ) belonged to the first category, 14 cases (25.5%) belonged to the second, and 24 cases (43.6%) belonged to the third category. Among 207 deaths of migrating population, 24 cases (11.6%) belonged to the first category,52 cases (25. 1% ) belonged to the second, and 131 cases (63.3%) belonged to the third category. (9)WHO twelve-grid classification of maternal deaths. The factors, including attitude, knowledge and skills, resources and management of the dead people and their families, the medical institutes and social supportive departments were integrated and analyzed. It showed that the main reason of maternal deaths of Shanghai residents was poor knowledge and skills of medical staffs, accounting for 80. 0% of the deaths. While the main reasons of maternal deaths of migrating people were poor knowledge and skills, inappropriate attitude of the dead people and their families, which took up 54. 1% and 40. 1% respectively. Conclusions The MMR in Shanghai declined continuously from 2000 to 2009, especially for migrating population which reflected the interventions of maternal management in Shanghai were effective. Though obstetric hemorrhage was the first top cause of maternal death during past 10 years, it declined Sharply. 30% to 40% maternal deaths were avoidable if some conditions were created. However, in order to adapt the changes of main causes of maternal deaths and accomplish increasing service requirements, it is necessary to develop new service and management mode.

To explore the protective effects of Huqi extractum, a compound Chinese herbal medicine, on salivary glands against radiation in Wistar rats.

Aim To study the effect of oxymatrine (OMT)on protecting human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)from toxicity induced by high glucose in vitro.Methods The HUVECs were cultured with medium containing different concentrations of glucose or OMT. The cells were randomly divided into 6 groups:5.5 mmol·L -1 control group(Control),22.2 mmol·L -1 high glucose (22.2 mmol·L -1 ),44.4 mmol·L -1 high glucose (44.4 mmol·L -1 ),control+OMT(control +OMT),22.2 mmol·L -1 high glu-cose +OMT(22.2 mmol·L -1 +OMT),44.4 mmol ·L -1 high glucose +OMT (44.4 mmol · L -1 +OMT).The protective effect of oxymatrine was as-sessed by MTS assays.The expression of A2B in HU-VECs was detected by Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR)and Western Blot methods.Results The glucose was shown to have caused cytotoxicity in HU-VECs.Oxymatrine (3 μmol·L -1 )was found to have protected HUVECs from glucose toxicity effectively, and reduced the expression of A2B significantly.Con-clusion Oxymatrine can obviously protect HUVECs from cytotoxicity induced by high glucose and the effect is performed partly by decreasing A2B expression.

Objective To explore the clinical effect of detection of serum procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP)and white blood cell (wBC)on diagnosis and treatment of severe pneumonia in children.Methods A total of 189 cases of pediatric patients with pneumonia including 51 severe pneumonia cases (severe pneumonia group)and 138 common pneumonia cases (common pneumonia group)treated from Mar 2014 to Dec 2014 and 30 healthy cases (control group)were enrolled,and the level of PCT,CRP and wBC of all cases were detected.Results The levels of PCT before treatment in severe pneumonia group,common pneumonia group,and control group were 1.12(0.44 ~3.07)ng /ml,0.14 (0.09 ~0.26) ng /ml and 0.03(0.01 ~0.06)ng /ml respectively,and there were significant differences among three groups (P ﹤0.05,respectively).The levels of CRP before treatment in severe pneumonia group,common pneumonia group,and control group were 82.2(25.9 ~120.3 )mg /L,10.8 (5.3 ~23.9)mg /L and 3.2 (2.1 ~6.9) mg /L respectively,and there were significant differences among three groups (P ﹤0.05,respectively).The counts of wBC before treatment in severe pneumonia group,common pneumonia group,and control group were 10.1 (9.1 ~14.1 )×109 /L,8.8(6.8 ~1 1.7)×109 /L and 6.2(4.8 ~7.9)×109 /L respectively,and there was significant difference only between severe pneumonia group and control group (P ﹤0.05 ).The level of PCT and CRP significantly decreased in severe pneumonia group after one week of treatment[PCT:0.15(0.09 ~0.24)ng /ml,CRP:9.9(3.6 ~19.0)mg /L](P ﹤0.05),but there was no significant differ-ence of wBC counts in severe pneumonia group between after and before treatment[8.5(6.3 ~9.8)×109 /L vs.10.1 (9.1 ~14.1 )×109 /L](t =1.312,P =0.205 ).After two days of anti-inflammatory treatment in severe pneumonia group,serum PCT dropped to 44% of the level before treatment,and smoothly dropped to nearly 10% of the basic value every two days.Serum PCT was correlated with serum CRP in children with pneumonia(R2 =0.550 4,P ﹤0.05).Conclusion The combined detection of PCT and CRP could provide important guidance for the differential diagnosis,treatment and prognosis for severe pneumonia in children.
