Objective To discuss the relative importance of the 5 English skills and to compare medical majors' main purposes of English listening and medical majors' actual usage of English listening.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among medical sophomores in the Second Military Medical University who had finished the college English course.Data were processed by Excel 2007 and statistical results were described by percentage.Results Participants paid enough attention to five English skills,especially the listening ability; a total of 98.4％ of the participants recognized the importance of listening skills.Students' learning needs and course arrangements are mainly about examinations,graduations future study.Medical English course arrangements cannot satisfy the learning needs.Conclusions Students recognized the importance of five English skills,especially the listening skills.Students' learning needs are basically examination-oriented and the medical English course is not enough for the students.Suggestions on the English teaching,course design and the integration of college English and medical English are put forward in the paper.

AIM:To investigate the effect of advanced glycation end products on inflammation in cultured cardiomyocytes.METHODS: Primary cardiomyocytes were isolated from Sprague-Dawley neonatal (1 to 2 days old) rats ventricles. The insulin resistant cardiomyocyte model was established. Neonatal rat ventricular myocytes were exposed to AGEs for 24 hours. TNF-? mRNA and PPAR-? mRNA expressions were determined by RT-PCR. Activation of NF-?B in the cells was examined by using immunocytochemistry. Objective To investigate the epidemiology of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in five rural counties of eastern China and analyze the biological,demographic and social risk factors.Methods Subjects of this study were all the diagnosed TB patients registered in the five study sites in Shandong Province,Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province during one year of 2008- 2009.Questionnaire interview was conducted in all the subjects to acquire the socio-demographic and clinical information.Sputum samples were collected for culturing and isolating of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.TB) strains.All the M.TB isolates were further tested for the susceptibility to first-line drugs including rifampin,isoniazid,ethambutol and strepomycin by proportion method.Mantel-Haenszel chi-square test,Fisher's exact test,ANOVA and nonconditional Logistic regression modeling were applied for data analysis.Results Among the total 380 M.TB isolates,105 were resistant to at least one of the first-line drugs.The total drug resistant TB prevalence was 27.6％.Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) was observed in 8.4％ of newly treated TB patients,whereas it was 23.3％in previously treated TB patients.After adjusted by county,gender and age of the subjects,multivariate analysis showed that previous treatment history (OR=3.900,95％CI: 1.737-8.704),tuberculosis cavity (OR - 1.987,95 ％ CI: 1.001 - 3.942) were independent factors influencing the occurrence of MDR-TB.Conclusions The prevalence of drug resistant TB in rural area of eastern China is relatively low compared with the average level in China,while it is still higher than the global average level.The present study highlights that TB patients with previous treatment history,cavitaryTB are correlated with MDR-TB,and elderly patients are at high risk of MDR-TB.

The QCC campaign at the emergency center was themed as minimizing incidence of risky transport of critically ill patients,which aimed at continued quality improvement by means of conditions review,problem analysis,measures making,and procedure improvement.The incidence of risky transports dropped from 26％ to 0.9％ in six months.Another promising outcome was a sharp betterment of clinical nurse management. It has proved that QCC can effectively downsize risky transports of critically ill patients,making it a functional means to improve nursing quality.

Objective To investigate colloidal gold immune chromatography (GICA ) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) detection pepsinogen (PG) consistency of results ,so as to provide experimental evidence for the use of colloidal gold im‐munochromatography assay PG and briefly analysis of its clinical utility .Methods Totally 40 cases in our hospital digested samples and medical centers 60 healthy population sample in Endoscopy Center by endoscopy diagnosed with inflammation of the stomach disease ,respectively ,with colloidal gold immune chromatography and enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay PG ,colloidal gold immu‐noassay chromatography method to be evaluated ,as the reference ELISA method .The results were compared to the method and bias analysis .Results GICA method with a correlation coefficient ELISA test results were greater than 0 .95 ,indicating a good correla‐tion between the two methods and there is no overall bias;sensitivity and specificity of the two methods were (0 .775 ,0 .85) and (0 .782 ,0 .823) .Conclusion Both GICA and ELISA can be used for screening or diagnosis of stomach illnesses .

Objective Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated vasculitis(AAV)is a systemic necrotizing small-vessel vasculitis, and myeloperoxidase(MPO) is one of the main antigens that ANCA can recognize.This study was to investigate the clinical significance of MPO, activated complement C5a fragment and ceruloplasmin ( Cp) in the peripheral blood of patients with MPO-ANCA associated vasculitis ( MPO-AAV) in active phase by observing their changes. Methods 132 MPO-AAV patients at active stage were selected as the patient group, while the control group was made up of 30 healthy controls.Peri-nuclear ANCA (p-ANCA) and MPO-ANCA in the patient group were detected by IIF and ELISA, respectively.The levels of MPO, Cp and C5a in both groups were tested by ELISA.The Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS) of every patient was calculated.In the patient group, the relationship among MPO, Cp, C5a and MPO-ANCA were analysed, and the association between BVAS and each of them was also explored. Results The levels of MPO, CP, C5a in the patient group were significantly higher than those in the health control group [MPO:400.7(333.5~506.1) vs 286.9(225.5~329.1)IU/L, P<0.001;C5a:336.7 (277.6~403.5) vs 236.8 (204.2~304.1) ng/mL, P<0.001;Cp:481.1 (387.9~535.9) vs 326.9 (177.1~405.5) ng/mL,P<0.001].The associations between MPO and Cp, C5a and MPO, C5a and Cp in the patient group were statistically significant ( r=0.663, P<0.001;r=0.792, P<0.001;r=0.637, P<0.001, respectively).No significant correlation was found in MPO-ANCA and any of these indexes.MPO-ANCA had a positive association with the total BVAS, the kidney BVAS, and the lung BVAS ( r=0.247, P=0.004;r=0.339,P<0.001 and r=0.191, P=0.028, respec-tively) .p-ANCA had a positive correlation with the kidney BVAS ( r=0.208, P=0.017) while C5a had a negative correlation with the kidney BVAS ( r=-0.207, P=0.018) . Conclusion The levels of MPO, Cp and C5a increased significantly in the peripheral blood of MPO-AAV patients in active phase.The complex interactions among MPO, Cp, C5a and ANCA might influence the clinical damage in MPO-AAV.Notablely, the influence from MPO-ANCA might be most obvious while C5a might affect renal damage more markedly.

Objective To establish the quality standard for Yanyan syrup. Methods Thin layer chromatography ( TLC) was used for the qualitative identification of Puerariae Lobatae Radix and Scrophulariae Radix. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the content of puerarin on Diamonsil C18(200 mm×4.6 mm,5μm) column with mobile phase consisting of methanol-0.5% acetic acid (25:75) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL?min-1.The detection wavelength was set at 250 nm. Results TLC spots were clear and well-separated without negative interference.The linear range of puerarin was 3-120μg?mL-1( r=0.999 7) with an average recovery of 97.44% ( RSD=2.07%,n=6) . Conclusion The method for quality and quantity of Yanyan syrup is simple, specific, accurate and reliable.It can be used for the quality control of Yanyan syrup.

Objective To investigate the impact of isoniazid (INH)-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) on the prevalence and dissemination of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).Methods A total of 251 patients diagnosed with tuberculosis in designated hospitals of Guanyun,Jiangsu and Deqing,Zhejiang from 2010 to 2011 were included in the study.The drug susceptibility tests (DST) were performed on all the Mtb isolates available from the sputum cultures.Mycobacteral interspersed repetitive units-variable number tandem repeats (MIRU-VNTR) was conducted for genotyping for all available Mtb isolates.Chi-square test,Fisher exact test,ANOVA and non-conditional Logistic regression modelling were applied for data analysis.Results Among 251 patients with Mtb isolates and DST results available,72 (28.7％) were resistant to INH,including 13 were INH mono-drug resistant.Of the remaining 59 INH-resistant Mtb,34 (13.5％) were resistant to rifampin TB and 25 were resistant to streptomycin and/or ethambutol.The clustering analysis based on MIRU-VNTR genotyping revealed 29 clustered genotypes (including 105 isolates) and 146 unique genotypes (including 119 isolates).Twentyfive clusters contained drug resistant Mtb and 16 clusters of them comprised by 37 INH-resistant isolates and 20 MDR-TB isolates,which accounted for 51.4％ of the INH-resistant isolates and 58.8％ of the MDR-TB isolates.Single factor analysis showed that sex,age,previous tuberculosis treatment history and sputum smear results were all related to INH-resistant tuberculosis and MDR-TB (all P ＜ 0.05).Multiple factors analysis showed that previous tuberculosis treatment history was risk factor of MDR-TB (OR=8.40,95 ％CI:3.342-21.105),while the risk factors of INH-resistant tuberculosis were previous tuberculosis treatment history (OR=3.52,95％CI:1.570-7.910),pulmonary caviry (OR=2.27,95％CI:1.075-4.799) and sputum smear results (OR=0.50,95％CI:0.275-0.892).Conclusions That INH-resistant strain may evolve to the MDR-TB after recent transmission is a possible trend.Patients with previous treatment history and advanced age are at high risk of INH-resistant tuberculosis and MDR-TB.
