1.The expression of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 in the hippocampus of rats restrained and stressed by electroacupuncture
Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2009;31(3):159-162
Objective To observe the expression of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) in the hippocampi of rats stressed by restraint, and adjustments to 11β-HSD1 expression in response to electroacupuncture. The mechanisms of adjustment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPA) to electroacupuncture were also studied. Methods Rats were randomly divided into a control group,a group stressed by restraint and an electroacupuncture group. The rats in the control group received no treatment. The rats in the strssd group were put into a small columnar cage and their hind legs tied outside the cage. The electroacupuncture group, in addition to being restrained, received electroacupuncture at the Zusanli acupoints on both sides of their bodies. The rats were then sacrificed and their hippocampi were isolated and lysed. The expression of 11β-HSD1 in each hippocampus were observed using the Western blotting technique. Results The leves of expression of 11β-HSD1 in the hippocampi of the restrained group were significantly higher than those in the control group. After electroacupuncture,11β-HSD1 expression in the hippocampus increased further and lasted 3 h. Conclusion Electroacupuncture at the Zusanli acupoints (ST36) can increase 11β-HSD1 expression in the hippocampus of stressed rats, and this adjustment may be related to the HPA axis' negative feedback function.

Recent Advances in Ophthalmology 2017;37(2):151-155
Objective To observe the clinical characteristics and surgical methods of strabismus following external approach for retinal detachment, and explore the common factors related to deviation angles of strabismus. Methods Twenty-five cases of secondary strabismus following external approach for retinal detachment underwent strabismus surgery were recruited, and the follow-up time was from 5 months to 41 months.Ophthalmic examinations were performed before operation.Clinical characteristics of these cases were observed by intraoperative exploration, including preoperative and postoperative eye position and ocular movement (at 1 week and further followup). The preoperative and postoperative deviation angles of strabismus were evaluated according to the times of retinal detachment operation, postoperative BCVA and the surgery procedure of hang-back recession. Results Before strabismus operation, all cases underwent abnormal eye-movements,8 cases suffered from diplopia, and scar adhesions were observed in all involved ocular muscles during operation.Seven cases underwent weakening procedure of extraocular muscle,18 cases underwent weakening procedure plus strengthening procedure.Ten cases underwent hang-back recession among them.At 1 week and the final follow-up,the eyeball in21 cases and 15 cases were in position,4 cases and 9 cases were in undercorrection,5 cases and 7 cases were in limitation, and 2 cases and 1 case were in diplopia. The more operations were performed in retinal detachment, the more scar adhesions were presented, and statistical significance existed with the mean deviation angles before and after operation(in a week) between cases that had one-time and over-one-time of retinal detachment surgery (P =0.01,0.00).No difference of mean deviation angles was found at one week after operation and at follow-ups between the cases with and without hang-back recession (P =0.26,0.63).Conclusion Abnormal eyemovements, diplopia and scar adhesion are the most common clinical characteristics of strabismus following retinal detachment surgery.Times of retinal detachment operation and postoperative BCVA can influence the deviation angles of strabismus, and hang-back recession seems the safe and effective method of strabismus surgery.
7.Single-incision Laparoscopic Surgery Versus Conventional Multi-port Laparoscopic Surgery for Tubal Pregnancy
Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery 2015;(12):1057-1060
Objective To study the feasibility of transumbilical single-incision laparoscopic surgery ( SILS) in the treatment of tubal pregnancy, as compared with conventional multi-port laparoscopic surgery. Methods Sixty-two patients diagnosed as tubal pregnancy undergoing laparoscopic surgery at this hospital between September 2013 and June 2014 were selected for investigation. There were 29 cases of transumbilical SILS ( SILS group) and 33 cases of conventional multi-port laparoscopic surgery ( MPLS group) . We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients and analyzed the surgical outcomes, including operative time, blood loss, surgical complications and hospital stay. Results In both groups, all procedures were performed without failure. No conversion to open surgery or additional skin incision was needed. There were no differences between the SILS and MPLS groups in the operation time [(51.5 ±10.8) min vs.(47.3 ±9.4) min, t=1.637, P=0.107], the mean estimated blood loss [(15.5 ±10.5) ml vs.(18.4 ±12.2) ml, t=-0.996, P=0.323], the absolute decrease of hemoglobin from preoperative to postoperative [(14 ± 5) g/L vs.(13 ±4) g/L, t=0.874, P=0.386], the postoperative hospital stay [(3.5 ±0.9) d vs.(3.8 ±0.8) d, t=-1.390, P=0.170], and the incidence of postoperative fever (2 cases vs.3 cases, χ2 =0.000, P=1.000).Follow-up for 1-3 months ( mean, 1.8 months) in all the cases showed smooth recovery and no postoperative complications. Conclusion SILS is a feasible and safe approach in the treatment of tubal pregnancy.

Objective To investigate the glucose metabolism changes of cerebral ischemic area after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in cat on 18 *"FDG-PET scans. Methods A permanent focal cerebral ischemia model of cat was established by electrocoagulating the terminal of left middle cerebral artery via a transorbital approach. 15 minutes before MCAO, 0.5 mCi 18 *"FDG were intravenous bolus injection.15 minutes, 1 h, 3 h, and 6 h after ischemia, 18 *"FDG-PET were performed and the SUV were measured. After neurological examination, the cats were killed for performing TTC stainnig. Results The SUV of ischemic area were highter than that of contralateral and control area(P

Objective:To explore the therapeutic potential of preemptive targeting of the epitope spreading cascade by adoptive transfer after EAE onset of immunoregulatory T cells specific for the MBP87-99 spreading determinant. Methods:EAE was induced by PLP139-151 in SWXJ mice, all mice were weighed and examined daily for neurologic signs. On days 6 after EAE onset, mice were injected with IL-2prom→IL-10cDNA-transfected Th2/Tr1-like T cells specific for MBP87-99,PLP104-117,or BSA. Finally demyelination was quantified by analysis of digitized images of PLP immunostained spinal cord sections. Results:Mice received Th2/Tr1-like T cells specific for MBP87-99 had a significantly improved clinical outcome(P=0.02) compared with control mice, reduction in the relapse rate and delay in mean time to onset of first relapse were also observed(P

Objective To investigate the clinical significance of urine transferrin in the type 2 diabetic nephropathy and primary chronic glomerular disease. Methods The level of TRF and UAER in the urine of 114 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), 108 patients with CGD and 30 healthy patients was measured by rate nephelometry and analyzed. Results Urine TRF significantly increased earlier than ALB at the early stage of DN; Linear correlation was found by correlation analysis between the level of TRF in urine level and the quantity of protein in urine. Conclusion TRF in urine obviously increased at the early stage of DN. It was more sensitive than UAER to reflect the early renal injury of DM. A statistically significant correlation was found between the TRF level and the quantity of protein in the urine.
