Objective To investigate the effect of pretreatment with electroacupuncture at point Neiguan(PC6) on CK and myocardial cell activity in rabbit myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and provide an experimental basis for a relatively specific relationship between pericardium meridian points and the heart. Methods Forty New Zealand big ear rabbits were randomly allocated to groups A, B, C, D and E, eight rabbits each. Group A was a sham operation group. Group B was an ischemia-reperfusion model group, in which the left anterior descending coronary artery was occlude for 30 min and reperfused for 60 min. In groups C, D and E, points Neiguan(PC6), Lieque(LU7) and Hegu(LI4) were separately given electroacupuncture stimulation, 20 min every day, at seven days before model making. Creatine kinase (CK) and myocardial formazan contents were compared between the groups. Results There were statistically significant differences in serum CK and myocardial formazan contents between group B, C, D or E and group A (P<0.01, P<0.05). There was a statistically significant differences in serum CK content between group C, D or E and group B (P<0.01). There was a statistically significant differences in myocardial formazan content between groups C and B (P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in serum CK and myocardial formazan contents between group D or E and group C (P<0.01, P<0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture at point Neiguan(PC6) can reduce myocardial ischemia-reperfusion induced injury to myocardial cells to produce a protective effect on the heart.

Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of secondary Hodgkin's lymphoma of ureter. Methods We retrospectively analyzed one case with retroperitoneal Hodgkin's lymphoma involving right ureter.A 63-year-old male patient was referred to our hospital on January 22th,2013 with right hydronephrosis for 15 days, detected by abdominal color Doppler ultrasound due to constipation and difficult defecation without any urinary symptoms.Urinary CT scan revealed that there were dilation and hydrops of right pelvic and ureter in the middle and upper segment. The distal portion of ureteral wall was thick with a stenosis lumen. There was multiple larged lymph nodes surrounding the abdominal aorta. So,it was clinically diagnosed as right ureteral carcinoma with lymphadenopathy and right hydronephrosis. The patient was then performed ureteroscopic inspection under general anesthesia. There was too narrow to go through smoothly the proximal ureter when the ureteroscope ascended 15 cm.Then, the exploratory surgery of right ureter was subsequently undergone.During operation, periureteral nodular mass and thickened wall were seen in the distal segment of ureter. Then the ureter lesion was partially excised with 1 cm and fast frozen pathology was undergone during operation. The result suggested chronic inflammation of ureteral.A 6Fr double J stent was left in the ureter. Then, the ureter was closed by 3-0 monocryl suture. Results The final pathological diagnosis was retroperitoneal Hodgkin's lymphoma with the lymph node involving the right ureter. After 40 days, the patient manifested high fever, night sweat, general lymphoadenomegalies. So,the clinical stage was classified as stage Ⅱ EB and poor prognosis group. Then, the patient received regular chemotherapy according to the ABVD (pirarubicin 20 mg/m2,bleomycin 10 mg/m2,vinblastine 1.4 mg/m2,dacarbazine 375 mg/m2) regimen over 8 cycles. Finally the symptomatology and diagnostic reassessment (hemato-chemical examinations and PET/CT) showed a clinical complete recovery after the follow-up period of 3 months. The follow-up plan is ongoing. Conclusions Because secondary Hodgkin's lymphoma of ureter is rare with concealed onset feature, lacking of characteristic clinical manifestations,it is relatively difficult to achieve the diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Therefore, pathology and immunohistochemistry should be assigned to confirm the diagnosis. It is stressed that physicians should be aware of the possibility of malignant lymphoma when unexplained hydronephrosis and thickness of the ureteral wall are found clinically.Generally it has a good prognosis and combination therapy for the treatment is given priority to with chemotherapy.

Background Cooking oil fumes are closely related to immune response, and adipose tissue also plays an important role in immune regulation. At present, the biological effect and mechanism of inflammation of adipose tissue induced by oil fume exposure are not clear yet. Objective To investigate the inflammatory effect of different exposure duration of cooking fumes on adipose tissue in mice and explore the role of Nod-like receptor pyrin domain 3 (NLRP3)/cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase 1 (Caspase 1)/interleukin (IL)-1β signaling pathway. Methods Forty 8-week-old female C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into 3-day control group (CON3 group), 7-day control group (CON7 group), 3-day oil fume exposure group (COF3 group), and 7-day oil fume exposure group (COF7 group), with 10 mice in each group. The mice were exposed to oil fumes in a cooking oil fume formation and exposure equipment (COFFEE) for 20 min, followed by a 10-min pause, 1 h a day for consecutive 3 d or 7 d. General condition of mice was observed and body weight was measured every day. After exposure, blood was sampled from the eyeball. Serum levels of IL-6, IL-27, and IL-1β were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The adipose tissue of mice was collected and observed after hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. The percentages of CD4+ and CD8+T cells in adipose tissue were detected by flow cytometry. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) was used to detect the expression levels of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), NLRP3, Caspase 1, and IL-1β in adipose tissue. Western blot was used to detect the expression levels of NLRP3, Caspase 1, and IL-1β in adipose. Results Compared with the corresponding control group, serum IL-6, IL-27, and IL-1β contents in the COF3 group and the COF7 group were significantly increased (P<0.05) except IL-6 in the COF3 group, and the levels in the COF7 group were significantly higher than those in the COF3 group (P<0.05). Vacuolar lipid droplets in adipocytes decreased, cytoplasm shrank, and inflammatory cells infiltrated in the COF7 group after HE staining. The flow cytometry results showed that the proportions of CD4+ and CD8+T cells in adipocytes of the COF3 group and the COF7 group were increased compared to the corresponding control group, with a significant increase in the COF7 group (P<0.05), and the CD4+/CD8+T ratio also significantly increased progressively in the two groups (P<0.05). The results of RT-qPCR showed that compared with the corresponding control group, the mRNA expression levels of NF-κB, NLRP3, Caspase 1, and IL-1β in adipose tissue of mice in the COF3 group and the COF7 group were significantly increased (P<0.05, P<0.01). The mRNA expression levels of mice in each exposure group gradually increased over time. The Western blot results showed that compared with the corresponding control group, the protein expressions of NLRP3 and Caspase 1 in the COF3 group were significantly increased (P<0.01), and the expression of IL-1β protein also increased but without statistical significance. The protein expressions of NLRP3, Caspase 1, and IL-1β in the COF7 group were significantly higher than those in the CON7 group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion Acute exposure to cooking oil fumes can induce significant inflammatory response in adipose tissue, and the effect gradually increases with the extension of exposure time. The mechanism of action may be related to the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway.

In these years, the electrical technology is widely applied in the study of biomedical engineering. Using electroporation therapy (EPT) to treat tumor is associated with biomedical engineering, electrical new technology, computer technology and microelectronic technology, which is a new marginal subject. Many experts have studied the mechanism and clinical treatment of the cell membrane electroporation phenomenon under electrical fields. These researches have shown that the membrane electroporation can stimulate the transport and intake of various drugs, which improves the tumoricidal effect of these drugs. The researchers have also been exploring the phenomenon that irreversible electrical breakdown (IREB) of cell membrane under high electrical fields and steep pulses leads to the death of tumor.

Objective: To observe the effects of moxibustion pretreatment on the protein expressions of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), phosphorylation extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (p-ERK1/2) and activated protein-1 (AP-1), the key factors of extracellular signal-regulated kinase signaling transduction pathway in gastric tissue of rats with stress-induced gastric mucosal damage, and to discuss the mechanisms of moxibustion therapy in promoting the restoration of damaged gastric mucosa.
Methods: Thirty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a normal group, a model group, and a moxibustion group using the random digits table, 10 in each group. Except the rats in the normal group, rats in the other two groups were used to make stress-induced gastric mucosal damage model using restraint and cold stress. Before modeling, rats in the moxibustion group were alternately treated with moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36) and Zhongwan (CV 12), or Pishu (BL 20) and Weishu (BL 21), once a day, for a total of 8 d. Histological changes of gastric mucosa were observed under the light microscopy, the expression of gastric tissue p-ERK1/2 was detected by immunohistochemistry assay, and the protein levels of EGFR and AP-1 were measured by Western blots.
Results: Compared with rats in the normal group, gastric mucosal damage was more serious, and protein expressions of gastric tissue EGFR, p-ERK1/2 and AP-1 increased in the model group (P<0.01,P<0.05,P<0.05). Compared with rats in the model group, gastric mucosal damage was milder, and protein expressions of gastric tissue EGFR, p-ERK1/2 and AP-1 increased in the moxibustion group (allP<0.01).
Conclusion:Moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36), Zhongwan (CV 12), Pishu (BL 20) and Weishu (BL 21) couldincrease EGFR, p-ERK1/2 and AP-1 expression levels in gastric tissue of stress-induced gastric mucosal damage rats, maintain the information transfer function of ERK signaling transduction pathway, and promote restoration of gastric mucosal damage.

To assess study the cytocidal and inhibitory effects of steep pulsed electric fields (SPEFs) on ovarian cancer cell line SKOV3, the cancer cell suspension was treated by SPEFs with different parameters (frequency, pulse duration, peak value of voltage). Viability rate and growth curves of two test groups (high dosage and low dosage of SPEFs) and one control group were also measured. The DNA contents and cell cycle were analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM). Different dosing levels of SPEFs exerted obviously different effects on cancer cell viability. With the enhancement of each pulse parameter, the viability rate was promoted and the inhibitory effect on the proliferation of treated cells was more evident. The cells exposed to SPEFs grew slower than the control. The ratio of S+G2/M phase cells was decreased, which restrained the DNA synthesis and division, but the ratio of G0/G1 phase cells was increased in the treated groups. It was also indicated that the SPEFs blocked the cell transition from G0/G1 phase to S+G2/M phase. There was a significant difference in cell cycle between treated group and control group (P<0.01). Lethal effects of SPEFs were represented by inhibiting the cancer cell proliferation at the cell level and by influencing the cell cycle at the DNA level.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2005;22(5):896-900
This study was conducted to observe the lethal effects of steep pulsed electric field(SPEF) on the cancerous squamous cells in BALB/c mice. Female mice were inoculated with the solution of cervical cancer cells line. The tumor-bearing mice of the experiment group were exposed to SPEF. Then, the histomorphological changes were examined and compared between experiment group and control group. The histological and antitumor assay showed that SPEF could selectively injure tumor cells and inhibit cell proliferation. After treatment, pyknosis, karyoclasis and karyolysis of cancer cells were observed under light and electron mircroscope. More serious changes appeared some days later. These results indicate that SPEF have lethal effects on cervical cancer. It may prolong the survival period of tumor-bearing mice.
