1.Adjunctive effects of Mirtazapine in nude mice with pancreatic cancer xenografts treated with Gemcitabine
Chinese Journal of Pancreatology 2009;9(6):380-382
Objective To investigate the effects of mirtazapine in combination with gemcitabine on food intake, body weight and tumor growth of human pancreatic carcinoma xenografts in nude mice. Methods 24 subcutaneous pancreatic cancer xenograft nude mice were randomly divided into control group, gemcitabine group(receiving 100 mg/kg gemcitabine i.P.on days 1,4,7 and 10 after operation)and combination group (gemcitabine as above and mirtazapine,10 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1),orally feeding for 21 days),with 8 mice in each group. All mice were sacrificed at day 21.Food intake, body weight and tumor size were compared among three groups. Results Gemcitabine group showed significant anti-tumor effects, but adverse effects such as decreasing food intake and body weight Was also noted. On days 21,there Was no significant difference in tumor size between combination group and gemcitabine group. The tumor inhibition rates of the two groups were 69.13%and 71.60%respectively(P>0.05).The food intake of mice and body weight[(3.12±0.11)g and(14.68±0.42)g]in combination group were slightly greater than these of gemcitabine group[(2.96±0.14)g and(14.38±0.61)g,P>0.05],but these parameters were significantly lowerthan those of control group[(4.65±0.13)g and(17.46±0.52)g,P<0.05].Conclusions Gemcitabine chemotherapy showed significant anti-tumor effects. Mirtazapine cannot significantly enhance the anti.tumor effect of gemcitabine. However, mirtazapine could alleviate adverse events of gemcitabine to some extent.
2.Effect of antidepressants on food intake and tumor growth in a xenograft mouse model of human pancreatic cancer
Chinese Journal of Pancreatology 2008;8(4):227-229
Objective To investigate the effect of different antidepressants (mirtazapine and fluoxetine) on food intake, body weight, tumor growth in a mouse model of pancreatic cancer. Methods A subcutaneous xenograft mouse model of human pancreatic cancer SW1990 was established. The tumor-bearing mice were randomly divided into saline solution control group, mirtazapine group, fluoxetine group, with 7 mice in each group. All mice were treated once daily with saline solution, mirtazapine (10mg·kg-1·d-1), fluoxetine (10mg· kg-1·d-1), orally by using metal garage feeding needles for 42 days. Tumor size, body weight, food intake were investigated. Results There was no significant difference in tumor size in the three groups. From the 2nd week, the food intake of mice in the mirtazapine group significantly increased compared with other two groups; the body weight of mice in the mirtazapine group at the 4th week was (16.00±1.41) g, which was higher than those in other two groups (P<0.05); from the 3rd week, the food intake of mice in the fluoxetine group significantly decreased compared with control group, and the body weight also decreased significantly from the 6th week (P<0.05) ; at the 6th week, the food intake of mice in the control, mirtazapine and fluoxetine groups were (3.54±0.13)g, (4.19±0.16)g and (3.34±0.13)g, and the body weight were (13.71±1.11)g, (14.86±1.68)g and (12.57±1.51)g, respectively. Conclusions Mirtazapine was better than fluoxetine in increasing food intake and alleviating body decreasing on a pancreatic cancer mouse model. However, there was no significant effect on the pancreatic tumor growth.
3.Influence of Qiangxin Tongmai decotion on heart function and plasma brain natriuretic peptide level in patients with chronic heart failure
Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2014;21(6):868-869
Objective To explore the effect of conventional western medicine combined with Qiangxin Tongmai decotion in the treatment of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).Methods According to the digital table,60 patients with CHF were randomly divided into two groups,30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine, while the treatment group received combination therapy of conventional western medicine and Qiangxin Tongmai decotion. The heart function and plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level were observed. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.3%,which was significantly higher than 70.0% of the control group (x2 =5.455,P < 0.05).After treatment, the level of BNP in the treatment group was (211.3 ± 87.7) ng/L,which was significantly lower than that of the control group [(410.8 ± 94.3) ng/L] (t =8.485,P < 0.01).Conclusion Qiangxin Tongmai decotion can obviously improve the heart function and reduce the level of BNP in patients with CHF.

International Journal of Pediatrics 2017;44(5):312-315
Respiratory tract and the external environment are interlinked,long-term exposure to a variety of physical and chemical substances and pathogenic microorganism stimulation, the antimicrobial activity of proteins secreted by epithelial cells is critical for maintaining health.short palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone 1 (SPLUNC1) is a lately discovered protein with antibacterial activity. Its structure is similar to the bactericidal permeability-increasing protein(BPI).SPLUNC1 binds specifically to lipopolysaccharide(LPS) of cell walls of gram-negative bacteria, and contributes to maintain homeostasis and a sterile environment in the lung, and acts as a goalkeeper role in the rapid activation of innate immunity and the initiation of adaptive immunity.SPLUNC1 is expected to become an antimicrobial agents for the treatment of respiratory tract bacterial infectious diseases.

ObjectiveTo disuss the relationship of clinical symptoms of cerebral palsy and the morphologie changes of head CT. MethodsHead CT photos of 86 cases of cerebral palsy infants were inspected and analyzed.ResultsAmong 86 cases of cerebral palsy infants 66 cases were abnormal in CT scan, the abnormal rate was 76.7%, in which cerebral atrophy constituted the most part (59.1%) of abnormity. The younger the sufferers were, the higher the abnormal rate reached. Sufferers with suffocation in disease history had the highest CT abnormity rate. In clinical types, sufferers of spasticity had the highest CT abnormity rate. Conclusion Morphologic examination of head CT is vital to diagnose the cause of cerebral palsy, and helps to find pathologic changes early.

China Pharmacy 2015;(23):3189-3191
OBJECTIVE:To improve the safety and effectiveness of total parenteral nutrition(TPN),and to provide reference for clinical rational use. METHODS:1400 TPN prescriptions in PIVAS from Jan. to Jun. 2013 were analyzed statistically in re-spects of rationality and stability. RESULTS:Among 1400 TPN prescriptions, there were 433 prescriptions of unreasonable glu-cose-lipid ratio(30.93%),782 prescriptions of unreasonable hot-nitrogen ratio(55.86%),443 prescriptions of unreasonable liquid amount(31.64%),1 261 prescriptions of unreasonable total calorie(90.07%)and 383 prescriptions of unreasonable treatment du-ration (27.36%). CONCLUSIONS:TPN prescription design is reasonable, but there are still some problems as low calorie, too high or too low hot nitrogen ratio, improper electrolyte dosage, improper duration of nutrition support. Clinicians should accurately assess the nutritional status of patients to design the prescriptions rationally and improve clinical safety and effectiveness of TPN. Pharmacists should further ensure the reasonableness of the prescription by prescription checking.
