2.Beers Criteria: a strong guarantee for improving medication safety in older adults
Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2012;31(7):549-550
The use of five or more drugs (polypharmacy) is common problem in the elderly, and need to attach importance.Optimization of drug treatment is a major part of medication in older adults, and also is a challenge to clinical physician.Beers Criteria provided by American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is a strong guarantee for improving medication safety in older adults

Chinese Traditional Patent Medicine 1992;0(02):-
AIM: To analyse the variety of the alkaloid and volatile oil from Herba Ephedrae after mix-fring with honey. METHODS: The volatile oil was analysed by GC-MS and the total alkaloids were determined by method of Chp. RESULTS: The volatile oil changed distinctly. The contents of Isolineole、p-Cymene、D-limonene、Evcalyptol、?-Terpinen increased evidently, but the contents of Benzaldehyde、Tetramethylpyrazine、p-Vinylanisole、?-Terpineol、?-Terpineol decreased and the contents of the total alkaloids decrease as well. CONCLUSION: The study provides a new experimental basis for the process theory of Herba Ephedrae.

Palliative and hospice care for patients suffering severe or end-stage illness with projected short life expectancy.Such services aim to improve patients' quality of life through prognosticating, prevention and treatment of their ailment. The main components include evaluation and treatment of symptoms, pain control, family care, alleviating and treating patients' psychological burden and depression, and offering comfort and dignity.Hospice and palliative care are different from euthanasia, because they neither hasten nor delay the dying process.Instead, they focus on patients'physical and psychological needs and helping patients to maintain their independence and make their own choice. As a new medical subspecialty, palliative and hospice care are considered one of the important frontier in modern medicine. They employ a multi-disciplinary team approach, and the team members require special skill sets including those in communication and symptom management.

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 2003;0(10):-
Objective To evaluate the impact of the off -pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) on left ventricular(LV) function with transesophageal echocardiography(TEE). Methods Blood flow velocities of pulmonary vein (PV) and mitral valve (MV) were performed in 21 patients with coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction two weeks pre-OPCAB, and the left ventricular SV, CO and LVEF were measured by biplane Simpson′s method, the data were compared with the results observed one month post-OPCAB. Results The peak flow velocities of PV had significant difference between pre- and post-OPCAB(P

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 2003;0(10):-
Objective To assess the changes of left ventricular function after off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) using Tei index. Methods Fourty-six patients of coronary artery disease, who had accepted OPCAB, were enrolled. Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), E/A ratio at mitrial orifice(E/A), E deceleration time(EDT), isovolumic relaxation time(IVRT), ratio of systolic wave to diastolic wave of pulmonary vein flow(S/D) and Tei index were measured by transthoracic echocardiography before, immediate, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after OPCAB. Results Tei index decreased gradually as time went on after OPCAB and the differences were significant between different times(P

Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics 1996;0(09):-
Objective To investigate the efficacy of MSCs infused intravenously on the regeneration of injured spinal cord and rehabilitation of its neurological function. Methods 32 SD rats, male or female, weight about 300 g for each one. MSCs were separated, cultured and purified in vitro. Surface marker of MSCs, such as CD34, CD45, CD29 and CD90 were detected by flow cytometry. The rat spinal cord injury model was prepared according to the modified Allen method. After exposure of T10 spinal cord, the T10 segment of spinal cord was injuried by a 10 g weight falling down from 5 cm high place upon a round thin copper pad which was placed on the surface of T10 segment of spinal cord. The diameter of the copper pad is 3 mm. There are 24 rats in the injuried group and 8 in the non-injuried group. The injuried group was then divided into experiment group with 14 rats and control group with 10 rats at 24 hours after preparation of models. The rats in the injuried group and non-injuried group were infused with MSCs marked by Brdu through tail vein, and the rats in control group were infused with PBS. The neurological functions of rats were evaluated at 24 hours after injury and 1, 3, 5 weeks post-infusion respectively. At the same time, the immigration, survival and differentiation of MSCs were observed. Results The MSCs were uniformly CD29, CD90 positive and CD34, CD45 negative. In vivo experiment, transplanted MSCs survived and were localized to the injured spinal cord, and a few cells expressed NSE, MAP2 post transplantation 3 to 5 weeks. Significant improvement in functional outcome in rats treated with MSCs transplantation compared to control rats. The score of BBB in the treated group was higher than that in the control group (P

In April 2016,the American Geriatrics Society(AGS)entered into a cooperative agreement with U.S.Department of Transportation.National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) updates and expands the Clinician's Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers to the 3rd Edition. The main goal of the Guide is to reduce traffic accidents and injuries to older drivers.According to the workflow of evaluation and management provided by Plan for Older Driver Safety(PODS),clinicians can conduct driving strategies after screening, evaluation and result analysis. The evaluation is done based on the Clinical Assessment of Driving Related Skills(CADReS) by a team including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, occupational therapists, driving rehabilitation specialists, and social workers. The CADReS including a series of assessment tools are used to evaluate in the key areas, such as vision, cognition, and motor/sensory function related to driving. Some measures will be taken based on the evaluation conclusions to help to explore the potential of driving safely for old adults.
