Objective To report the experience in the use of laparoscopic extravascular stent for the treatment of the nutcracker syndrome. Methods Five patients (4 men and 1 woman) aged 20 to 35 years (mean 25) underwent laparoscopic extravascular stent of the left renal vein (LRV) for treatment of nutcracker syndrome associated with severe recurrent gross hematuria and left gonadal vein varices. All patients met the criteria for establishing the diagnosis of nutcracker syndrome. Ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging revealed visible entrapment of the LRV between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta. Bleeding from the left ureteral orifice was detected by cystoscopy in 3 cases. An externally reinforced graft was selected to form an external stent around the LRV to relieve the compression. Results The mean operation time was 67 min (65-70min). No complications occurred during surgery. The postoperative follow-up was 9 to 39 months (mean 28). Total relief was achieved in 4 men without a relapse of symptoms and abnormalities were not found in urine tests. There was partial relief for the female patient due to microscopic hematuria after the operation. In all the 5 cases, Color Doppler ultrasonography showed that the blood outflow was smooth, the inner diameter and flow velocity of the aortomesenteric portion of the LRV were both decreased, and the gonadal vein varices had diminished in diameter. Conclusions The laparoscopic extravgscular stent of the renal vein could be a feasible approach for re-establishing free renal venous outflow in patients with nutcracker syndrome. This slightly invasive treatment could eliminate the symptoms of the condition.

Objective To investigate the serum level of NT-pro-BNP in patients with acute ischemic stroke and to determine whether NT-pro-BNP levels were associated with the death within 15 days of stroke onset. Methods Two hundard twenty-six consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke within 48 hours of onset were enrolled in this study. We measured plasma NT-pro-BNP within 72 h and recorded the NIHSS score on admission. Patients were divided into two groups: the deceased group, who died within 15 days, and the survival group. The factors associated with the death within 15 d of stroke onset were investigated by using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results Twenty-four (10.6%) patients died with 15 days of stroke onset. The incidence of atrial fibrillation, cardioembolism and large infarc?tion, the mean ± SD of NIHSS score, age, glucose level and creatinine were significantly higher in the deceased group than in the survival group (P<0.001). On the other hand, the mean ± SD of LVEF, albumin, LDL-C, and total-cholester?ol were significantly lower in the deceased group than in the survival group(P<0.05 ). The median of the plasma NT-pro-BNP level was significantly higher in the deceased group than in the survival group (2598.5 vs. 190.4 pg/mL, P<0.001). The optimal cut-off level, sensitivity, specificity and ROC area of NT-pro-BNP levels to distinguish the de?ceased group from the survival group were 955.2 pg/mL, 83.3%and 82.2%, 0.906, respectively. Binary logistic regression analysis demonstrated that NIHSS score of ≥13 (OR=56.18, 95% CI=9.06 to 348.40, P =0.000) , plasma Lg NT-Pro-BNP level (OR=38.79, 95%CI=6.52 to 230.95, P=0.000) , and the size of infarction (OR=8.73, 95%CI=1.11~68.88, P=0.040) were independent factors associated with the death within acute phase of stroke. Conclusions The plas?ma NT-pro-BNP level can predict the death of stroke patients within 15 days of stroke onset.
5.Protective effects of Fufangdengzhanhua dripping pill on apoptosis induced by glutamate in cultured primary hippocampal neurons of rats.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2010;35(5):647-650
OBJECTIVETo explore the protective effects and the inhibited mechanism of Fufangdengzhanhua dripping pill (FDD) on the apoptosis induced by glutamate (Glu) of cultured primary hippocampal neurons of rats.
METHODBy the seropharmacological method, we obtained the drug-contained serum. The primary hippocampal neurons of rat cerebrum were cultured for 10 days, then exposed to 500 micromol x L(-1) glutamate acid (Glu) for 20 minutes to build the model. The 5% drug-contained sera which included normal, model, 0.05 g x kg(-1) nimodipine (Nim), 5.00 g x kg(-1) FDD and 1.25 g x kg(-1) FDD were added to the nutrient solution of cultured neurons. In this study, we observed the following indexes: the viability of cultured primary hippocampal neurons by MTT assay, the injured cell morphological changes with fluorescence microscope by using Hoechst 33342 & Propicium Iodide (PI) staining, intracellular Ca2+ concentration and the percentage of apoptosis by flow cytometry.
RESULTWhen the hippocampal neurons were exposed to Glu, the cells were seriously damaged: nuclei were shrunken and cloven and the apoptosis body and the viability of cultured primary hippocampal neurons were decreased dramatically compared with the control. The FDD (5.00, 1.25 g x kg(-1)) and Nim could prevent the above changes Glu-induced. The necrosis rates and the percentage of cellular apoptosis of cultured hippocampal neurons pretreated with the serum of containing FDD decreased significantly and the number of surviving cells was increased significantly compared with model. Intracellular Ca2+ concentration Glu-induced were increased markedly compared with the control and the FDD (5.00, 1.25 g x kg(-1)) could prevent the above changes .
CONCLUSIONFDD has protective effects on the apoptosis induced by glutamate (Glu) of cultured primary hippocampal neurons of rats, which possibly is related to reducing the intracellular Ca2+.

6.Progress of miRNA in ovarian carcinoma
Cancer Research and Clinic 2019;31(8):566-569
Ovarian cancer is one of the three major malignant tumors in gynecology, which is characterized with occult onset and rapid progression. Most diagnosed patients are in the advanced stage, therefore, it is important to seek new and effective early diagnosis methods to improve survival rate and theprognosis. miRNA is a key molecule involved in the regulation of post-transcriptional gene expression and almost all biological processes, including cell cycle, proliferation and differentiation, and tumor formation. More and more studies have found that miRNA is closely related to human malignancies and is overexpressed in ovarian cancer tissues compared with the healthy people. The expressions of miRNA have differences in different clinical stage and the histological differentiation, chemotherapy resistance and sensitivity of ovarian cancer. At the same time, miRNA is also involved in the regulation of the development of ovarian cancer, affecting the prognosis of ovarian cancer. This paper reviews the progress of miRNA in ovarian cancer, providing new ideas for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer. This paper reviews the progress of miRNA in ovarian carcinoma.

Liver Research 2019;3(1):3-18
Liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide, and the third most common cause of cancer-related death.Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),which accounts for more than 90%of primary liver cancers,is an important public health problem. In addition to cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B viral(HBV)or hepatitis C viral(HCV)infection,non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is becoming a major risk factor for liver cancer because of the prevalence of obesity.Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)will likely become the leading indication for liver transplantation in the future. It is well recognized that gut microbiota is a key environmental factor in the pathogenesis of liver disease and cancer. The interplay between gut microbiota and liver disease has been investigated in animal and clinical studies. In this article,we summarize the roles of gut microbiota in the development of liver disease as well as gut microbiota-targeted therapies.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a malignant tumor with a fairly poor prognosis(5-year survival of less than 50%).Using sorafenib, the only food and drug administration(FDA)-approved drug,HCC cannot be effectively treated;it can only be controlled at most for a couple of months. There is a great need to develop efficacious treatment against this debilitating disease.Glypican-3(GPC3),a member of the glypican family that attaches to the cell surface by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor,is overex-pressed in HCC cases and is elevated in the serum of a large proportion of patients with HCC.GPC3 expression contributes to HCC growth and metastasis.Furthermore, several different types of antibodies targeting GPC3 have been developed. The aim of this review is to summarize the current literatures on the GPC3 expression in human HCC,molecular mechanisms of GPC3 regulation and antibodies targeting GPC3.

Objective: To study the relationship between serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), cystation-C (Cys-C), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and atherosclerosis in middle and old age patient with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: A total of 206 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM at the age of (67.3±10.4) years were enrolled. Based on color Doppler ultrasound examination, the patients were divided into 2 groups: Control group, the patient without carotid plaque or increased intima thickening, n=105 and Experiment group, patient with carotid plaque or increased intima thickening, n=101. The general information, fasting blood glucose, 2h postprandial blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, TC and IGF-1, Cys-C, IL-6, hs-CRP were recorded and compared between 2 groups, BMI was calculated in all patients. Results: Compared with Control group, Experiment group had increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), elevated serum levels of Cys-C, IL-6, hs-CRP and reduced IGF-1, allP<0.05. Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that CIMT was negatively related to IGF-1 (r=-0.493,P<0.01), positively related to Cys-C, IL-6 and hs-CRP (r=0.464,r=0.219 andr=0.618, allP<0.01). Conclusion: Serum levels of Cys-C and IL-6 might be the independent risk factors for atherosclerosis occurrence in meddle and old patients with T2DM; combined detection of IGF-1, Cys-C and IL-6 could help clinical diagnosis in relevant patients.

With obesity rate consistently increasing,a strong relationship between obesity and fatty liver disease has been discovered.More than 90%of bariatric surgery patients also have non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases(NAFLDs).NAFLD and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which are the hepatic manifesta-tions of metabolic syndrome, can lead to liver carcinogenesis.Unfortunately, there is no effective medicine that can be used to treat NASH or liver cancer. Thus,it is critically important to understand the mechanism underlying the development of these diseases.Extensive evidence suggests that microRNA 22(miR-22)can be a diagnostic marker for liver diseases as well as a treatment target. This review paper focuses on the roles of miR-22 in metabolism, steatosis, and liver carcinogenesis.Literature search is limited based on the publications included in the PubMed database in the recent 10 years.
