The number of diarrhea sufferers every year is highest in comparison with 3 other intestinal diseases, and the cholera is absent in 3 investigated areas, including An Bien, Hon Dat and Tan Hiep districts, using both information collecting methods. In An Bien district, the incidence per 100,000 people per year of diarrhea is 1983.4, of dystentery syndrome is 415.5, of typhoid fever is 294.5. These incidences in Hon Dat district is 1956.9, 673.1 and 407.7, respectively and in Tan Hiep district is 1933.1, 781.4 and 86.3, respectively.

126 samples of drilling well water were collected and tested. Results: In term of physical indices: 88.1% of samples have color more than 10, and are comparable in three districts; 68.3% of samples have smell; 42.15 of samples have taste. In term of chemical indices: organic content in acceptable range. 89.68% of samples have iron level more than 2.5mg/l; 66.7% of samples have pH degree in acceptable range. 55.6% of samples have rigidity higher than standard of 500mg/l. In term of biological indices: streptococcus, Cl. perfringens and S. aureus are in acceptable range. 19.4% of samples have E. coli level more than acceptable limit.

This study introduced the main water resources for daily accommodation in 3 districts of ¢n Biªn, Hßn §Êt, and T©n HiÖp, including pond and lake water (52.72%), rainy water (42.74%) and drilling well water (4.08%). Some risks of pollution of the water resources such as no filtration and polluted drainage for rainy water, sewage surrounding the drilling well and pollution resources far from the drilling well less than 10 m.

Study on 124 samples of surface water at An Bien, Hon Dat and Tan Hiep districts, Kien Giang province to assess the quality based on biological-chemiphysical index. The situation of polluting the surface water at 3 districts were very serious. Most samples of water hadn't achieved the biological-chemiphysical index. 100% samples of water had examined at 3 areas had Fe content higher than permissible standards. 100% samples of water at Hon Dat had NOZ content higher than permissible standards, at An Bien was 29.5%. 100% samples of surface water at Hon Dat and Tan Hiep had faecal coliform content and E.coli higher than permissible standards.

The results of analysis showed that the pH were <6.5 or >8.5 in 45% of drinking water samples. The rate of drinking water samples that NO2 concentrations exceeded the set standards were between 10.9% and 30% in 3 districts (An Bien, Hon Dat, and Tan Hiep). The concentrations of organic substances and NH4 also exceeded 0-15% of standards, and many samples were substandard about microorganism such as E.coli, faecal coliform (15%) with p<0.05. It’s necessary to survey and study especially the local fact in building bore-well.

Background: Limitation of daily activities is the obstacle that prevents the elderly from achieving their desires. Objective: Aim to discover the prevalence and risk factors of the limitation in daily activities in the elderly. Subject and methods: This cross - sectional study was conducted in 4 provinces: Thai Nguyen, Ha Tay, Hue and Can Tho during June to December 2006 among 2.644 people at the age of 60 and above. Results: The overall prevalence of limitation of the elderly is 5.6%, and 4.3% is totally dependent and 1.3% is partly dependent. This proportion increases with age. It happens more in urban areas as opposed to rural and mountainous areas. Those living with their spouse have lower proportion of limitations. Can Tho and Ha Tay has the higher proportion of limitation than Hue and Thai Nguyen. Factors related to these limitations are aging (OR = 1.08; 1.06-1.10), not working at the current time (OR = 0.11; 0.05-0.28), ethnicity (OR = 2.25; 1.45-3.49), lack of physical exercise (OR = 2.24, 1.75-3.85), brain damage (OR = 15.18; 9.47-24.35), dementia (OR = 2.39; 1.62-3.54) and loss of vision (OR =1.32; 1.05-1.65). Conclusion: The limitation in daily activities tremendously affects the quality of life for the elderly. Age, working status, race, physical activity, accident of cerebral vessels, dementia and vision loss are statistic significant related factors for the limitation in daily activities of the elderly
