ObjectiveTo study the efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with surgical resection in the treatment of ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).MethodsThe clinical data of 26 patients who presented with ruptured HCC to our hospital from January 2008 to December 2011 were retrospectively studied. These patients received TACE (n=19),surgical resection (n=7),and surgical resection after TACE (n=8).ResultsShock in the 19 patients who received TACE was promptly corrected and the vital signs were stabilized. On subsequent CT,the tumors shrunk in size.Salvage liver resection was carried out in 8 patients 1 month after TACE.After treatment,AFP decreased or became normalized, thus the treatment results were good. A one-stage liver resection was carried out in 7 patients. One patient died after operation and peritoneal metastases occurred in 4 patients. Conclusions TACE stopped bleeding from ruptured HCC efficaciously, reduced the need for open exploration, and improved the rate of resection of HCC.TACE combined with surgical resection significantly lowered the rate of abdominal tumor metastases.

ObjectiveTo explore the correlations of simple bladder capacity measurement and urodynamic examination used for assessing the bladder function of patients with spinal cord injury. Methods From December 2011 to September 2013,a total of 37 patients with spinal cord injury were recruited.Their bladder functions were examined by both simple bladder capacity measurement and urodynamics in the first week after admission. The type of neurogenic bladder, residue urine, bladder capacity and the changes of bladder pressure were documented and compared. Results The simple bladder capacity measurement and urodynamics showed no significant differences in the parameters including residual urine, and bladder pressures when inputting 50mL,100mL,300mL and 400mL water(P>0.05). But there were significant differences in the results of bladder capacity and bladder pressure when inputting 200mL water(P<0.05). The intra-class coefficients between the results by the two methods were 0.606~0.919(P<0.01).The Kappa coefficient of the health professionals’judgments according to the two methods was 0.825(P<0.001).Conclusions The results of simple bladder capacity measurement are reliable. It can be used as the supplement for urodynamics to monitor the bladder function of patients with spinal cord injury.

Objective To investigate the possibility of hair follicle reformation induced by hair follicle bulb cells implanted into collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds in vivo, and to observe the angiogenesis in implanted scaffolds. Methods Hair follicle bulb cells obtained by enzyme digestion from the hack skin of C57BL/6J mice were implanted into collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds followed by 2-week organotypie culture. Then, these collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds were transplanted subcutaneously into the dorsal skin of nude mice. Those nude mice transplanted with empty collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds served as the controls. The growth of hair was observed with naked eyes.Six weeks after the transplantation, skin samples were obtained from the recipient site and subjected to histological examination. Results Five weeks after the transplantation, hair growth was observed in the dorsal skin of nude mice.Six weeks later, histological examination revealed fully differentiated hair follicles and vessel-like structures in the center of collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds. However, the transplantation with empty collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds failed to elicit the same response. No hair or follicles were observed in the control mice alpng with small number of vessel-1ike structures.Con-clusions Hair follicle bulb ceils implanted into collagen/chitosan porous scaffolds in vivo could induce hair follicle reformation and promote the formation of vessel-like structure in the scafffold center.

OBJECTIVETo compare quantitatively the enhanced thin CT section with pathologic findings in pulmonary carcinoma, pulmonary inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) and pulmonary tuberculoma so as to demonstrate the relation of degree of enhancement and the vascular structure within the lesion with special emphasis on pulmonary carcinoma.
METHODSEnhanced thin CT sections were obtained in 35 cases with nodular or patchy lesions in the peripheral lung field which are difficult to differentiate clinically. There were pulmonary carcinoma 21, inflammatory pseudotumor 7 and tuberculoma 7. The number of small vessels (inner diameter 0.02 approximately 0.1 mm), relatively large vessels (inner diameter > 0.1 mm) and their vascular bed areas were analyzed by computed image analyzing system. The relation between CT average attenuation and the number of vessels or the vascular bed areas were statistically evaluated.
RESULTS1. The differences of average attenuation in carcinoma, inflammatory pseudotumor and tuberculoma were statistically significant (P < 0.05). 2. The differences in number of small vessels, relatively large vessels and vascular bed areas among these three types of lesion were also significant (P < 0.05). 3. A positive correlation was found in the average CT affenuation of lung carcinoma and its number of small vessels and relatively large vessels and 4. A positive correlation was found between the average CT attenuation in these three lesions and the relatively large vessels, total vascular amount and vascular bed areas.
CONCLUSIONS1. The average degree of attenuation, being divided into four degrees, is of practical value in the differentiation of lung carcinoma, inflammatory pseudotumor and tuberculoma. 2. The average CT attenuation of lung carcinoma, inflammatory pseudotumor and tuberculoma is in direct proportion to the number of vessels and vessel bed areas and 3. The characteristic CT enhancement in lung carcinoma reflexes the condition of vessels and blood supply within the tumor.
