Objective In this research,the relationship between blood estrogen level and periodontitis in rats was studied. Methods Twenty-four female Wister rats were randomly divided into three groups:control group,sham operation group and ovariectomized group. Rat chronic periodontitis model was established by ligating the rat's second molar with a steel wire in the sham operation group and ovariectomized group. Serum estrogen level of the rats was detected respectively. Dental X-ray observation,histological examination and immunohistochemistry were employed for the characterization of rat's chronic periodontitis. [Objective]To understand the changes of periprosthetic bone mineral density(BMD) of the proximal femur in patients with failed hip arthroplasty by measuring with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA). [Method]Periprosthetic BMD was determined in 9 patients with revision total hip arthroplasty by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA),defining regions of interest according to Gruen(1~7),and comparing the operation side with the nonoperation side.Clinic results of the cases were evaluated according to Harris Hip Score(HHS).[Result]The mean HHS was 61 points in 9 patients at this follow-up examination.There was a significant decrease(8.9%~27.6 %) in BMD in every Gruen zone as compared with the nonoperation side.[Conclusion]The bone loss in the proximal femur in patients with failed hip arthroplasty is significant,and the pattern of bone loss around failed hip arthroplasty may be different from the typical remodeling seen after successful hip arthroplasty.

[Objective]To discuss the outcome of acetabular protrusion after total hip arthroplasty. [Method]Fifteen patients(M=7,F=9) having painful acetabular protrusion received total hip arthroplasty with reinforcement of the acetabulum with bone grafts(autogenous or allogeneous bone).The results were reported at 1~4 years(mean,3 years) of follow-up.Of the 15 cases,5 were mild protrusion and 10 were moderate protrusion.The Harris hip-rating and radiographs were taken pre-and postoperatively. [Result]The average Harris hip-rating was improved from 45 points(range,39~60 points) preoperatively to 85 points(range,70~100 points) postoperatively.The average preoperative protrusion of the femoral head medial to the Kohler line was 8.8 mm(6~18 mm).The average postoperative placement of the prosthetic femoral head was 10 mm(6~13 mm) lateral to the Kohler line.None acetabulum prothesis failure or bone grafts absorption was seen.The grafts were well incorporated on radiograms in all patients one year after operation by radiographs. [Conclusion]Good results can be obtained in hips with acetabular protrusion after reconstructed with autogeneous or allogeneous bone grafting and total hip arthroplasty.

The pathogenesis is still unknown and the mechanism of endometriosis-associated pain remains unclear. Mast cells (MC) are known to be multifunctional players in the immune system. Recent studies have shown that nerve fibers in EMs lesions can release neural peptides such as nerve growth factor and substance P to induce MC degranulating and releasing histamine, proteases, cytokines, chemokines etc., which contributes to the development of pain and hyperalgesia in patients with endometriosis.

Objective To establish a calculation method for the voiding work parameters by using the detrusor power curve and to evaluate its clinic efficacy.Methods From January 2001 to January 2011,132 male patients with benign prostate hyperplasia who underwent urodynamic tests were retrospectively reviewed.The patients' age ranged from 45 to 84 years old (mean 57 years old).All patients had no previous history of neurological disease and no positive findings in neurological examinations.The voiding work of bladder,the voiding power of bladder and voiding energy consumption were calculated by using the detrusor power curve method and the linearized passive urethral resistance relation analysis was conducted.According to the detrusor status,all patients were divided into the decreased detrusor pressure group,the normal detrusor pressure group and the increased detrusor pressure group.Meanwhile,normal urethral resistance group and the increased urethral resistance group were classified according to the urethral resistance status.The detrusor pressure at maximal flow rate (PdetQmax),the maximal flow rate (Qmax),the projected isovolumetric pressure (PIP),the voiding work,the voiding power and the voiding energy consumption were compared among the different groups.Results There were 56 cases,58 cases,18 cases in the decreased,normal and the increased detrusor pressure group respectively.The voiding work were (1.1 ± 0.5)J,(1.7± 0.7)J,(2.1±1.2)J; the voiding power were (15.3±7.3)mW,(31.9±12.6)mW,(42.5±21.1)mW; and the voiding energy consumption were (3.9± 1.2) J/L,(5.2± 1.9) J/L,(6.2±3.2) J/L in those three groups,respectively.With the increasing of detrusor pressure,PdetQ Q PIP,the voiding work,the voiding power and the voiding energy consumption all increased among three groups with significant difference (P＜ 0.05).There were 51 cases,81 cases in the normal and the increased urethral resistance group.The voiding work were (1.5±0.7)J and (1.5±0.8)J;the voiding power were (32.3±13.2)mW and (22.6±16.3)mW and the voiding energy consumption were (3.8±0.7) J/L and (5.4±2.4) J/L in two groups.The increased urethral resistance group had higher PdetQmax and voiding energy consumption (P＜0.05) and lower Qmax and voiding power (P＜0.05) than those in the normal urethral resistance group.However,the differences of PIP (P =0.438) and the voiding work (P =0.546) between the two groups were not determined.Conclusions The detrusor power curve method can be used to calculate the work parameters of voiding.This method can be applied to evaluate the compensatory state of bladder and is conductive to urodynamic analysis in low detrusor pressure status.Both detrusor pressure and urethral resistance had significant impact on the work capacity of bladder.

The paper presented the thoughts and steps taken by the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseaes in biobank quality management system.By means ofprocess approach,the organizational structure,identification and analysis process were established,along with the management mechanism and normalized documentation.Centering onPlan,Do,Check and Act(PDCA),a complete set of quality management system was established.This system enables normalized management of biobanks in China,and provides practice guidelines for development industry standards of the country as well.

Objective To investigate the application value of free plasma metanephrines metanephrine(MN) and normetanephrine (NM) measured with enzyme immunoassay (EIA), NM in diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. Methods Histologically confirmed pheochromocytomas (n=30) and control patients with hypertension (n=51) were enrolled in the study. Blood tests for free plasma metanephrines(MN and NM) were performed with a commercially available EIA kit and the results were compared with [3] I-metaiedobenzyl guanidine (MIBG) whole body scan findings. Results The whole body scan was positive in all pheochromocytoma patients and negative in 15 control patients with 100% accuracy. The median values in the 2 groups were 59.3 ng/L and 33.7 ng/L (Z=-2. 440, P<0.05) for MN, 652.0 ng/L and 36. 3 ng/L (Z=-6.699, P<0.001) for NM, with 96. 7% (29/30) sensitivity, 86. 3% (44/51)specificity and 90.1% (73/81) accuracy for their combination ( either or both positive). There was no significantly statistical difference when compared with 13I-MIBG whole body scan findings (100. 0% ,P >0. 05). Conclusion The results show that the EIA method may be eligible as an alternative to HPLC for plasma metanephrines determination in the identification of pheochromocytoma.

BACKGROUND: Artificial humeral head replacement is an effective method for the treatment of complex proximal humeral fractures, which has received good results in relieving pain. However, the final functional recovery is unpredictable. OBJECTIVE: To compare biomeshanical stability between anatomical and overlapping reconstruction of the greater tuberosity in cadaveric humeral head replacement models.METHODS: Eight pairs of fresh-frozen shoulder cadavers (16 shoulder joints) were match-paired into two groups. Standardized humeral head replacement procedure was performed in all specimens, and anatomical and overlapping reconstruction of thegreater tuberosity was adopted in each group respectively. For overlapping group, the greater tuberosity was reattached to the proximal humeral shaft in an overlapping style, which was achieved by an additional 5 mm bone osteotomized from the medial cortex of the humeral diaphysis. Custom mounting apparatus and fixation jigs were designed for designated shoulder motion.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: When the shoulder was external rotated to neutral position, the mean displacement of greater tuberosity in the anatomical reconstruction group was smaller than that of the overlapping reconstruction group (P < 0.05). When the gleno-humeral joint was elevated to 30～ and 60～ forward flexion (accounting for 45° and 90° shoulder forward flexion), there was no significant difference of greater tuberosity displacement between the anatomical group and overlapping group. The findings demonstrated that, although overlapping reconstruction can increase the bone healing area between the greater tuberosity and the humeral diaphysis, there may be some loss in mechanical stability as the trade-off. Even though we strictly follow the standardized postoperative rehabilitation protocol after humeral head replacement, prominent displacement between the greater tuberosity relative to the humeral diaphysis was detected. Accordingly, postponing of the postoperative rehabilitation program after humeral head replacement for a decent period may improve tuberosity healing.
