1.The application of the sample entropy evaluation for the ketogenic diet in infantile spasms
Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2015;30(11):854-856
Objective To evaluate clinical efficacy and electroencephalogram(EEG)changes quantitatively after the ketogenic diet (KD) by single sample entropy (SampEn) in the treatment of infantile spasms (IS),and to learn the quantitative relationship between the clinical efficacy and EEG.Methods Patients diagnosed as IS were enrolled and started KD in Shenzhen Children's Hospital from April 2010 to December 2013.The SampEn of EEG data in these patients before and after treatment with KD were analyzed.Patients were classified as seizure-free group and non-seizure-free group according to the therapeutic responsiveness to KD.The SampEn findings from two groups were compared to explore the effect of KD on EEG and its related factors. Results Among 35 patients, more than 2 months of treatment,10 cases were seizure free,25 cases still had seizures.SampEn was 0.377 ± 0.246 before treatment, and 0.725 ± 0.405 after treatment in all patients, there was significant difference (Z =-4.351,P =0.000).SampEn was 0.342 ± 0.277 before treatment, and 0.929 ± 0.379 after treatment in seizure free group, there was significant difference between 2 groups(Z =-3.371,P =0.001).While SampEn was 0.391 ± 0.237 before treatment, and 0.643 ± 0.393 after treatment in non-seizure free group, there was a significant difference between 2 groups(Z =-3.371,P =0.001).The mental and motor development was improved after KD with improvement rate were 56% (14/25 cases) and 70% (7/10 cases),respectively, but there was no statistical difference(P =0.704).Conclusions No matter seizures are controlled or not,KD can increase the complexity of electrical activity in the brain, which was more obvious in the seizure-free group.Intellectual and movement development can be improved in patients with KD.
2.Update on ketogenic diet therapies in epilepsy
Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2015;30(12):888-891
Although the ketogenic diet(KD) has originally been used to treat epilepsies, plenty of evidence about the efficacy to intractable epilepsy has not accumulated until recently. These epilepsy or epilepsy syndrome include:Dravet syndrome,Doose syndrome, infantile spasms,Angelman syndrome with epilepsy, tuberous sclerosis complex and focal cerebral dysplasia or other structural epilepsy. It is worth paying more attention to the efficacy of KD on cognition, language development and behavior problems.

7.The molecular mechanisms of lymphangiogenesis in neoplasms
International Journal of Surgery 2008;35(9):639-642
Many studies have demonstrated the presence of increasing newly formed lymphatic vessels in tumour tissue, which is significantly correlated with the invasion of tumours, lymphatic metastasis, prognosis and so on. Re-cently,with the discovery of specific lymphatic endothelial cells markers and the development of novel experiment methods, turnout lymphangiogenesis become the focusing point for researchers. Here we will review what is known a-bout the reasons, molecular mechanisms and inhibitors of lymphangiogenesis in neoplasms.
8.Expression and function of cyclooxygenase-2 in endometrial carcinoma
Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2009;41(6):657-663
Objective: To evaluate the cyclooxygenase-2 ( COX-2) expression at mRNA and protein levels , as well as its clinical significance, and to study the correlation of COX-2 with angiogenesis, apoptosis and estrogen or progestron receptors. Methods: Forty-one samples of normal endoraetrium tissues and 52 ones of endometrial carcinomas( EC) were collected, together with their corresponding clinical information. RT-PCR was adopted to determine the expression of COX-2 mRNA. Immunohistochemical staining was engaged to evaluate the protein expression of COX-2, VEGF, Bcl-2 and the MVD marked by CD105. And TUNEL was used to count the apoptosis cells. Results: (1) Significantly higher mRNA and protein levels of COX-2 were found in endometrial carcinomas than in normal endometrial tissues ( P<0.001) . (2) At protein level ,COX-2 expression was related to the grade(P =0.020) , but had nothing to do with the stage, pathological type, depth of myometrium invasion and lymph node metastasis. Neither did the level of COX-2 mRNA with all the factors above. (3)The level of COX-2 mRAN had nothing to do with that of protein(P =0. 125, r =0. 222). (4) The higher the expression of COX-2 protein was, the higher that of VEGF,MVD or Bcl-2 was,and the lower the count of apoptosis cells was P<0.05. (6)The upregulation of COX-2 protein had no correlation with ER-α and ER-β . But it had positive correlation with PRA and PRB,P was 0.031 and 0.007 .respectively. Conclusion: (1)The expression of COX-2 is significantly higher in EC than in normal endometrium tissue, not only at the mRNA level, but also at protein level. ( 2 ) At protein level, COX-2 expression is related to the grade, but has nothing to do with the stage, pathological type, depth of myometrium invasion and lymph node metastasis. Neither does the level of COX-2 mRNA with all the factors above. (3)The upregulation of COX-2 protein in EC correlates with the increase of VEGF protein and MVD. (4) The upregulation of COX-2 protein in EC correlates with the increase of Bcl-2 protein and the decrease of apoptosis cells. (5)The upregulation of COX-2 protein in EC has no significant correlation with ER expression, but has something to do with the increase of PRA and PRB.
9.Treament for the Postopertive Gyno-pathy of a Complete Cutting off of the Womb with Traditional Chinese Medicine
Journal of Chinese Physician 2002;0(S1):-
Objective To explore the effect on the neural endocrine and gastro intestinal functions when using Chinese traditional medicine in the treatment after the gyno-pathy operation of the wond's complete cutting off. Methods To compare 86 postoperative cases of gyno-pathy (womb's complete cutting off) being treated partly with Chinese medicine wiht the same 75 cases treated during the same period without Chinese medicine in order to investigate the different effect on the recovery of their neural endocrine and gastric intestinal functions. HZ Results The result shows that the patients in the tested group can recouer quickly while the neural endocrine and the gastro intestinal functions of the opposite group cannot recouer or recover very slowly in a long time. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine is rather helpul for the recovery of thd postoperative gyno-pathy patients if it is correctly used .
