To genuinely orient our service towards the needs of patients, we modified the wards in our hospital, turning previous wards housing 8 to 10 patients each into medium-sized and small ones, with each one having a separate toilet, balcony, and air conditioner, meeting the diversified needs of patients, and attracting more patients to seek service at the hospital. As a result, in 2000, as compared with 1999, the number of emergency outpatients increased by 14.4%, the number of discharged patients increased by 16.2%, the average ratio of bed usage increased by 9.0%, the turnover rate of beds increased by 6.8%, the average length of stay dropped by 7.0%, income from outpatient service increased by 43.9%, the proportion of income from the sale of pharmaceuticals in the total business income dropped by 10.5%, and the annual business income increased by 18.9%.

Inner ear was not or mildly impaired in children's CSOM.

Objective To analyze the clinical data of Staphylococcus aureus sputum culture positive cases and the antimicrobial susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from them and provide the evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods Retrospectively analyze the clinical data of Staphylococcus aureus sputum culture positive cases of our hospital from January 2014 to December 2014. Results The Staphylococcus aureus sputum culture positive cases was 111 in all, while antimicrobial sensitive test was performed in 110 cases, including MSSA in 27 cases (24.55%), MSRA in 83 cases (74.45%), community infection MSRA in 13 cases (15.66%), hospital infection MRSA in 70 cases (84.34%). The cases were mainly from the department of respiratory diseases, department of neurosurgery, ICU, the department of neurology, accounting for 75.68%. The risk rate of community acquired MRSA in patients from nursing center were significantly higher than that of hospital infection MRSA and MSSA (P = 0.004). The antimicrobial susceptibility rate of community infection MRSA to clindamycin, gentamicin, erythromycin, azithromycin was higher than that of hospital infection MRSA. Conclusion The susceptibility rate in non-β-lactams of community infeciton MRSA was higher than that of hospital infection MRSA.

Objective To investigate the comparative proteomes difference of PBMC between health adults and Parkinson Disease(PD) patients with Ganyang Huafeng syndrome and Xuexu Shengfeng syndrome.So to approach the essence of the two TCM syndromes from the protein expression level.Methods A series of methods,including immobilolized pH gradient two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophpresis(2-DE),Coomassie Brilliant Blue staining,PDQuest 2-DE analysis software,peptide massfingerprint based on matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flying mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS) and SWISS-PROT database searching,were used to separate and indentify the proteome of PBMC between health adults and PD patients with Ganyang Huafeng syndrome and Xuexu Shengfeng syndrome.Results The good 2-DE pattern including resolution and reproducibility was obtained.After Coomassie Brilliant Blue staining,15 spots were incised and analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS.The typic peptide masses were searched in the SWISS-PROT database by Mascot software.All proteins were preliminarily identified,which ralated to cytoskeleton,anti-oxidative stress,protein degradation,signal transduction and cell cycle,etc.Conclusions The well-resolved,reproducible 2-DE patterns of Ganyang Huafeng syndrome and Xuexu Shengfeng syndrome PD were established and revealed the protein expression difference of PBMC between the two syndromes of PD patients.This research is helpful to provide substance evidence in investigation of the essence of Ganyang Huafeng syndrome and Xuexu Shengfeng syndrome on protein level.

Background and purpose:Zhongshan City is one of the areas with the highest NPC incidence worldwide and nationwide. Although its incidence rate had been analyzed thoroughly, but its mortality rate was not studied further until now. This study was to explore NPC mortality status in Zhongshan City from 1970 to 2010, and to provide scientiifc information for its control and prevention.Methods:NPC death data in Zhongshan City from 1970 to 2010 came from Zhongshan Cancer Registry Ofifce. Such indices as its death number, crude rate, age standardized rate (ASR) and truncated rate etc were calculated and analyzed. Results:There were 5 267 NPC death cases in Zhongshan City from 1970 to 2010, its crude world ASR and truncated rates were 11.03/105, 12.34/105 and 29.31/105 respectively. Its world ASRs increased before 1999 but no statistical signiifcance (P=0.64) and decreased thereafter with obvious statistical signiifcance (P=0.001). But overall, there were a decreasing trend for its ASRs (P=0.001) from 1970 to 2010 in Zhongshan City. Moreover, NPC mortality rate in male was remarkably higher than in female, the death peak age was 55-59 age group, and the different age groups were with different trends fro 1970 to 2010. Conclusion:Although with declining trend from 1970 to 2010, NPC mortality rate in Zhongshan City was at high level worldwide. It suggested that NPC control and prevention should be enhanced.

Objective To explore the expression of survivin gene in retinoblastoma (RB) and its relationship with the stages and histodifferentiation degree of RB and the expression of p53?bcl-2 proteins. Methods Expression of survivin, p53 and bcl-2 proteins in 38 RB conventional paraffin samples were detected with survivin, p53 and bcl-2 monoclonal antibodies respectively by immunohistochemical assay. The expression of survivin of normal retina in 6 control samples was observed. Results In 38 cases of RB, positive expression of survivin was found in 20 (52.6%); while none of the 6 normal retinal tissue expressed survivin, which had significant difference between the two group (P0.05). In 38 RB cases, positive expression of p53 was in 25 with the rate of 65.8%, and of bcl-2 in 18 with the rate of 47.4%. Objective To study the expression and its significance of Platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) and Collagen type Ⅰ (Col- Ⅰ) mRNA in hepatic tissue in mice exposed to arsenic in drinking water. Methods Fifty mice were divided into control group, sodium arsenite group(iAs3+ group, 300 mg/L) and sodium arsenate group (iAs5+ group, 300mg/L) at random. The mice were sacrificed after 10 months for liver function test (ALT, AST and GLB examined by automatic biochemical analyzer) and pathologic examinations. Masson staining and immunohistochemical SABC methods were used. Through the result of Masson staining fibrosis semi-quantitative analysis of the fibrosis number was carried out in the per unit area. Using immuonhistochemical SABC methods, the expression of PDGF and Col- Ⅰ was detected. Results ①Serum ALT was statistically significant among control group [(36.67±3.51) U/L], iAs3+ group[(61.46±13.85) U/L] and iAs5+ group[(43.31±4.21) U/L, F= 6.56, P < 0.05], especially between the control and iAs3+ group (P < 0.05) ;Serum AST had a statistical significance among control group [(135.00 ± 20.42)U/L], iA3+ group [(510.86 ± 59.01)U/L] and iAs5+ group[(258.93 ± 22.40) U/L, F= 83.36, P < 0.05] ;Serum GLB had no statistical significance among control group [(20.86 ± 0.61)g/L], iAs3+ group [(26.94± 3.73)g/L] and iAs5+ group[(24.59 ± 5.27)g/L, F = 2.80, P < 0.05]. ②Masson staining revealed notable liver cell necrosis, regeneration, infiltration of inflammatory cells in portal area. Masson staining Semi-quantitative results showed significantly increasing size of fibrosis in model group. Compared with control group(0.069 ± 0.013) and iAs5+ group(0.143 ± 0.122), fiber hyperplasia of iAs3+ group(0.192 ± 0.108) had statistical significance (F = 1.91, P < 0.05). ③Immunohistochemistry results showed higher expression of PDGF in the portal area, sepetal and preisinus cells in model group. The heavy expression of Col- Ⅰ distributed in the surrounding of blood vessels and bile duet and along portal wall extensting to the liver in model group. Semi-quantitative results showed that PDGF among control group(202.79 ± 7.46), iAs3+ group(174.38 ± 7.71) and iAs5+ group(177.64 ± 7.81) had a statistical significance(F= 102.91, P < 0.05);Col-Ⅰ had a statistical significance among control group(200.11 ± 7.46), iAs3+ group (176.47±10.20) and iAs5+ group (177.378 ±7.948, F = 78.51, P < 0.05). Conclusions Exposed in oral drinking arsenic, mice can develop hepatic injury and hepatic fibrosis. The PDGF and Col-Ⅰ play significant effects on the process of hepatic fibrosis caused by oral drinking arsenic exposed mice.

The aim of this paper is to report the study on gene silencing efficiency of siRNA targeted against mouse VEGFR2 (siVEGFR2) in vitro mediated by polyethyleneimine (PEI) and its anti-tumor effect in vivo. CY3-labeled siRNA was compounded into PEI and transfected into MS1 cells. Confocal microscopy was used to image the subcellular distribution of siRNA in MS1 cells. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to evaluate VEGFR2 gene silencing induced by siVEGFR2/PEI complexes. A tumor-bearing nude mice model was established to compare the anti-tumor effect after delivered by local and systemic routes. siVEGFR2/PEI complex-transfected cells exhibited much fluorescence in cytoplasm with no evidence of nuclear accumulation. The expression levels of VEGFR2 mRNA and protein in PEI-transfected cells were significantly down-regulated compared with that in blank group, the silencing efficiency were 28.2% and 23.6% respectively. The tumor sizes in mice intratumorally injected with siVEGFR2/PEI complexes (189.429 +/- 17.562 mm3) were reduced definitely compared to that in mice injected with siVEGFR2/PEI complexes via vein route (315.507 +/- 20.491 mm3), or to saline groups (365.844 +/- 20.713 mm3). The study demonstrated that PEI could effectively transfect siRNA into cells and silence the VEGFR2 gene expression. Intratumoral delivery is more suitable for non-targeted modified PEI/siRNA complexes to inhibit the tumor growth in vivo. The present data lay a solid foundation to further study on the gene silencing mechanism for PEI-medicated RNAi and its anti-tumor efficiency in vivo.

Objective To assess the safety of combined lung resection and cardiac surgery in patients with synchronously occurring lung tumor and heart disease. Methods Fourteen patients with synchronously lung tumor and heart disease received lung resection combined with open heart surgery between 2003 and 2008 in our hospital. There were 11 men and 3 women with a mean age of 64 years. Lung resection consisted of lobectomy in 8 patients, sleeve lobectomy in 1, and wedge resection in 5.Pulmonary tumor pathology was squamous cell in 4 patients, adenocarcinoma in 6, undifferentiated carcinoma in 1, hamartoma in 2 and sclerosing hemangioma in 1. Cardiac procedure included coronary artery bypass grafting (off-pump) in 12 cases, mitral valve replacement in 1 and valve repair in 1. Results No patient died or needed to do re-exploration for bleeding. One patient developed atrial fibrillation postoperatively and recovered soon. One patient developed pneumonia and ARDS who bad to receive tracheostomy but finally he discharged from hospital one month later after the operation. Conclusion Combined lung tumor resection and cardiac surgery are relatively safe in selected patients, especially concomitantly with off pump coronary artery bypass grafting. Lung resection and system medinstinal lymph node dissection for lung canner through second incision had low and acceptable operative morbidity.

Objective To explore the expression change of death associated protein kinase(DAPK)and therapeutic time window for traumatic brain injury in rats.Method The traumatic brain injury models of rats were achieved by free drop impact model.The adult rats were randomly divided into normal control,sham-operation and TBI groups.Samples of"TBI group were acquired at the time point of2h,8h,24h,48h and 72h after brain injury.Pathological changes of injured neurons were demonstrated by H-E staining,the expression of DAPK mRNA W8.8 detected by RT-PCR,relative quantitation of neuron apoptosis Wa$detected by TUNEL.Results At the Sh after brain injury,the expression of DAPK increased evidently and neuron apeptosis Wag detected.The expression of DAPK and quantitation of neuron apeptosis reached peal[at the 24h after injury.Conclusion These obaervatiorm showed that the expression of DAPK in the cerebral tissues reached peak at the 24h after injury.The optimum therapeutic time window wag 24h after injury.
