Objective To study the effect of urapidil on the levels of 4 kinds of plasma neuropeptides : endothelin(ET),neuropetid Y(NPY),calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP) and neurotensin(NT) in patients with hypertension. Methods Twenty patients with hypertension ,scheduled for surgery, received urapidil 0.5mg/kg intravenously before anesthesia induction .The intravenous blood samples were taken before and 5min after the administration ,to measure the plasma levels of ET,NPY,CGRP and NT with radioimmunoassay . Twenty health humans served as control. Results Compared with control levels, ET and NPY levels increased markedly and CGRP and NT levels decreased significantly in the patients with hypertension (P

Objective To investigate the relationship between obesity parameters and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) in aircrew. Methods A questionnaire survey in aircrew members was performed. Outcome measurement included body height, body weight, neck circumference ( NC), waist circumference (WC), and body mass index (BMI). Those with snoring during sleep and/or Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS)score ≥ 9 were screened with pulse oxygen saturation test during overnight sleep. Those with oxygen saturation decrease index ≥ 10 times/h and suspected OSAHS were tested by polysomnography (PSG). The objects were then assigned to three groups: the OSAHS group, the snore group and the normal group. The relationship between obesity parameters and OSAHS was analyzed. Results There were 399 ( 37. 54% ) overweight, 36 ( 3. 39% ) obesity, 130 ( 12. 23% ) increased NC, and 354 (33.30%)increased WC in 1063 aircrew members (OSAHS group > snore group > normal group; P<O. 05). The mean value of BMI, NC and WC in the three groups were dittos. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that overweight, obesity and increased WC were significantly associated with snoring (P <0.05) and snoring enlarged NC was significantly correlated with OSAHS (P< 0.05). Conclusion Increased BMI, NC and WC may be risk factors of OSAHS among aircrew. Effective prevention and treatment of OSAHS should be needed.

Objective To investigate the possible mechanism and re-ablation of recurrent atrial arrhythmias after atrial fibrillation(AF) ablation by utilizing the Carto system and double LASSO technique. Methods A total of 77 AF patients were enrolled and among them,56 with paroxysmal AF and 21 with persistent AF.Eight-F Swartz long sheaths were positioned in the left atrium by transseptal technique. One to two LASSO catheters were placed in the ipsilateral pulmonary veins(PV).The anatomy of the left atrium and PV was established using the Carto system.PV selective venography was carried out to identify the PV ostium.Continuous circular lesions(CCL) were made at the left atrium at 0.5 to 1.0 cm outside the PV ostium.Irrigated radiofrequecy energy was delivered in all the patients. The end point of the CCL was defined as absence of all PV spikes documented with LASSO catheters within the ipsilateral PVs.Results A repeat ablation was performed in 14 patients who experienced highly symptomatic atrial tachyarrhythmia.During the repeat procedures, conduction gaps in the previous CCL were found in 13 out of the 14 patients, and a typical atrial flutter was found in the other patient which was eliminated by ablation of the tricuspid isthmus.During the second procedure, pulmonary vein tachycardia was demonstrated in 7 patients. The pulmonary vein tachycardia activated the LA via the conduction gaps. All conduction gaps were successfully ablated by irrigated RF applications. After the second procedure,12 out of the 14 patients were free of AF during 3 to 30 months of follow-up.Conclusion Continuous circular lesions(CCL) in the left atrium utilizing the Carto system and double LASSO technique had a high success. In patients with recurrent atrial tachyarrhythmia after CCLs,recovered PV conduction is a main cause for the recurrence.

Objective To evaluate the individuality of patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma and discuss the relation between individuality and glaucoma. Design Questionnaire. Participants 99 patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma and 99 healthy people. Methods Questionnaire were performed with Self-rations Anxiety seal: TH means "Time and Hurry", CH means"Competition and Hostility" and L means "Lit". The questionnaires were compartmentalizied with the scoring of TH+CH and statistical analysis; Score 50-28 means Type A behavior, 27 means Type X behavior, 26-1 means Type B behavior. Main Outcome Measures CH, TH, CH+TH. Results The quantity of primary angle-closure glaucoma in type A behavior group was 49 (64.5%), while the quantity of healthy people was 32 (36.8%). There was obvious difference between two groups (P=0.001). The scoring of TH, CH and TH+CH of primary angle-closure glaucoma patients were higher obviously than those of the healthy one (P

Objective To introduce and analyze the design, manufacture and clinical effect of the casting full dentition splint in treatment of periodontal disease with or without dentition defect. Methods 148 patients with periodontal disease during 1995 to 1998 were treated with casting full dentition splint after a thorough basic periodontal treatment. The patients were composed of 81 men and 67 women aged 40-69y. The patients were followed up for 1 to 3 years after restoration. General effects of the prosthesis were evaluated based on the chief complain of patients, clinical examination and X-ray examination. Results Among 148 patients, 140 (94.59%) were satisfied with the prosthesis and stable periodontal status, 6 (4.05%) were improved, 2 (1.35%) showed no clinical effect. Conclusion Casting full dentition splint can improve the mastication efficiency in periodontal disease patients. It is an effective and reversible therapeutic method on treatment of the periodontal disease with or without dentition defect.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2000;0(12):-
Objectives To explore the effects of hemodialysis on oxidizing stress and plasma nitrogen monoxide (NO) levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods 67 maintenance hemodialysis patients (male 39, female 28, and mean age 58?13y) were enrolled in this study. Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) level was measured by colorimetry, and plasma NO level was determined by enzymatic method. The MDA and NO levels before and after hemodialysis were measured in 48 cases of the patients. Results After hemodialysis, the serum MDA levels significantly increased, and the plasma NO levels decreased. The patients with cardiovascular diseases had lower NO levels and higher MDA levels than the patients without ones before hemodialysis. The serum MDA levels of the patients using biological incompatible dialysis membrane increased after hemodialysis. Conclusion Hemodialysis treatment, especially using biological incompatible dialysis membrane increased oxidizing stress and decreased plasma NO levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients, and was significantly correlated with the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases.
