1.Study of the therapeutic efficacy of Montelucast and Cetirizine on allergic rhinitis in children and their effects on the level of serum cytokines

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo study the therapeutic efficacy of Montelucast and Cetirizine on allergic rhinitis in children and their effects on the level of serum IFN-γ and IL-4.METHODS Sixty allergic rhinitis children were randomly divided into treatment group (30 children) and control group (30 children). The control group were treated with cetirizine drops (po, ages 2-6, 5 mg, qd, ages >6, 10 mg, qd.). Treatment group were treated with cetirizine drops combined with Montelucast (po, ages 2-5, 4 mg, qn, ages 6-12, 5 mg, qn, ages >12, 10 mg.). Thirty health children were selected as health group.RESULTSBefore treatment, the level of serum IFN-γ in treatment group and control group were significantly lower than that in health group (P<0.01), but the level of serum IL-4 were significantly higher than that in health group (the F was 19.25 and 143.81 respectively;P<0.01). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the level of serum IFN-γ and IL-4 between treatment and control group (P>0.05). After treatment, the level of serum IFN-γ of both groups increased, and the level of serum IL-4 of both groups decreased. However, the level of serum IL-4 and IFN-γ in treatment group changed significantly (P<0.01). After treatment, VAS scores were lower than that of before treatment, however that of the treatment group was the lowest (P<0.01). After one month follow-up, there was no significant difference between the two groups.CONCLUSIONThe mechanism of Montelucast and cetirizine on treatment of allergic rhinitis may be related to the correction of the disorder of IFN-γ and IL-4.
2.Clinical features and diagnosis in two cases general paresis of insane

Objective To analyse the clinical features in general paresis of insane(GPI)as to offering an early diagnosis. Methods A retrospective analysis of 2 cases of GPI was focused on their clinical manifestations. Results The clinical features of GPI showed: (1) Chronic onset, progressive development in 2 cases; (2) Dementia was key symptom.Hasegawa dementia scales were 4 and 17 in 2 cases.2 cases accompanied with abnormal mentality,such as delusion of grandeur ,euphoria and so on;(3)GPI have features of pupil change,dysarthria,muscular tension,abnormal reflection; (4) Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) syphilis antibody reaction manifested positive, CSF protein content was increased significantly, and cells increased ( with lymph cell mainly ); (5) Head MRI manifested: cerebral atrophy in 2 cases, multiple abnormal signals in cerebral parenchyma in 1 case. Conclusions GPI misdiagnosis rate is high. Important basis of diagnosis remains on clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging examinations.
3.Effects of l-glutamine monofluorophosphate and alendronate sodium on trabecular bone in ovariectomized rats

AIM To evaluate whether l glutamine monofluorophosphate(MFP) together with Alendronate sodium may further increase bone mass in ovariectomized rats. METHODS Forty two 3 month old Sprague Dawley female rats were randomized into six groups:group 1 rats were sham operated(Sham),group 2 rats were ovariectomized controls(Ovx),and groups 3~6 were ovariectomized and received either 1 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of alendronate sodium ,270 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of calcium gluconate,5 6 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of MFP or combination of 5 6 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of MFP and 1 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 of alendronate sodium for 3 months. All animals received double bone fluorochrome labeling prior to sacrifice. At the end of experiment,the left tibiae were havested for histomorphometrical evaluations. RESULTS Alendronate sodium increased trabecular bone volume significantly with suppressed bone resorption and bone formation. Administrated calcium gluconate had no influence on the bone mass. MFP also could not restore cancellous bone of ovariectomized rats. Administration of both MFP and alendronate sodium increased bone mass significantly but did not increase bone mass compared with alendronate sodium. CONCLUSIONS The results indicated administration of both alendronate sodium and MFP could not further increase bone mass of ovariectomized rats.

Objective:To investigate the effect of a low calcium diet on the distal and proximal tibial metaphysis in male rats using bone histomorphometrical techniques. Methods:Forty 3-month-old male Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats, with a mean weight of 280?22g, were randomized into five groups. Group one and group two were fed a normal diet (Ca 1.0%) and a very low calcium diet (VLCD ,Ca 0.1%) respectively for one month,and the rest three groups were fed a normal diet (Ca 1.0%), a very low calcium diet (VLCD, Ca 0.1%) and a low calcium diet (LCD , Ca 0.3%) respectively for three months. Objective To investigate the frequency of JAK2 V617F mutation and JAK2 V617F mutation allele burden in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET), and explore the relationship between mutation and hematological parameters and coagulation function. Methods The clinical and laboratory parameters of 90 ET patients were analyzed. JAK2 V617F mutation was detected by AS-PCR and the mutation allele burden of JAK2 V617F was detected by qPCR. The correlation between mutation frequency and mutation burden of JAK2 V617F and blood laboratory parameters were investigated in ET. Results JAK2 V617F mutation was found in 50 patients (55.6 %). RBC [(4.67±0.89)×109/L vs (4.04±0.99)×109/L, P =0.003], WBC (11.64±5.20)×109/L vs (9.11±4.11)×109/L, P = 0.014], HCT (0.41±0.07) vs (0.36±0.07), P =0.005) in the JAK2 V617F mutated group were higher than those in the wild-type group. PT in mutated patients was longer than that in wild-type group [(13.18±1.63) s vs (12.02±1.24) s, P = 0.000]. The JAK2 V617F mutation allele burden was (29.91 ±18.63) %. No significant correlation was found between JAK2 V617F mutation allele burden and hematological parameters such as WBC, RBC and Plt (all P>0.05), but the JAK2 V617F mutation allele burden had a significant correlation with FDP (r = 0.456, P = 0.001). Conclusions JAK2 V617F mutation occurs in significant percentage patients with ET. Detection of JAK2 V617F mutation allele burden at diagnosis may play an important role in the early prevention of vascular events.
