In order to study the effects of Ca2+ in the biosynthesis of salvianolic acid B (Sal B) induced by salicylic acid (SA) in the young seedlings of Salvia miltiorrhiza, we used confocal laser scanning microscopy and high performance liquid chromatography to measure the change of relative fluorescence intensity of Ca2+ and the contents of Sal B induced by SA before and after the application of extracellular calcium channel inhibitors (VP and LaCl3), intracellular calcium channel inhibitor (LiCl), as well as intracellular calmodulin antagonist (TFP). SA could induce the calcium burst, and the Ca2+ peak could last to 2-3 min in the guard cells of S. miltiorrhiza, which prompted the biosynthesis of Sal B after the Ca2+ burst. Both Vp or LaCl3, and LiCl or TFP could inhibit the burst of Ca2+ and the biosynthesis of Sal B. The above results demonstrated that Ca2+ from the extracellular and the intracellular calcium store regulate the biosynthesis of Sal B elicited by salicylic acid in S. miltiorrhiz young seedlings.

Abstract
In recent years, the overall incidence of scoliosis in children and adolescents in China is on the rise, and it has become the third largest "killer" affecting the health of children and adolescents in China after obesity and myopia. The dysfunction caused by spinal deformity has no obvious pathological manifestations or clinical symptoms in children and adolescents (except for severe scoliosis). It is easy to be ignored in the early stage, but if it is not intervened in time, this will cause serious damage to the long term prognosis and quality of life of the patients. Therefore, through early scoliosis screening, we can effectively monitor the spinal health status of children and adolescents in China, ensure timely diagnosis of the disease, timely intervention (brace and other conservative treatment), and play the role of early prevention. Avoid further deterioration of scoliosis and surgical intervention. This article will focus on the research progress of screening and conservative treatment of scoliosis.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), one of reactive oxygen species, is widely generated in many biological systems, and it mediates various physiological and biochemical process in plants. To investigate the role of H2O2 as a signaling molecule in the process of salicylic acid (SA)-induced Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) accumulation, we separately inspected the cultured cells of Salvia miltiorrhiza with SA, H2O2, catalase (CAT), 2-(4-carboxy-2-phenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-l-oxyl-3-oxide (DMTU) and Imidazole (IMD) to investigate the influence on the activity of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT) and the accumulation of Sal B. Treatment of S. miltiorrhiza cells with SA resulted in an increase of H2O2, the increase of PAL and TAT and accumulation of Sal B. Exogenous application of 10-30 mmol/L H2O2 was found to effectively increase PAL and TAT activity as well as the Sal B content. CAT, a H2O2 scavenger, eliminated the Sal B-accumulating effects of exogenous H2O2 and SA. These indicated that H2O2 may serve as an upstream signaling molecule in the SA-induced accumulation of Sal B signal transduction pathway. Disposed by DMTU, a chemical trap for H2O2, as observed to be effective in inhibiting SA-induced accumulation of Sal B. IMD strongly inhibits the activity of NADPH oxidase, which is one of the main sources of H2O2 formation in plant cells. IMD treatment strongly inhibited the accumulation of Sal B in cultured cells of S. miltiorrhiza, but the effects of IMD, can be partially reversed by the exogenous SA. The accumulation of Sal B was blocked once the generation of H2O2 by NADPH oxidase was inhibited, and H2O2 served as signaling molecule mediated the SA-induced Sal B accumulation.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between exercise and serum lipid level in middle-aged population. Methods: Based on “multicenter collaborative study of cardiovascular epidemiology” research, a total of 3482 subjects at the age of (35-59) years from urban and rural areas of Beijing and Guangzhou were enrolled in this study. According to daily energy expenditure of exercise (EEexer), the participants were divided into 3 groups: No exercise group, (daily) EEexer below median group and (daily) EEexer above median group. The type and duration of exercise were collected by the questionnaire, daily EEexer was calculated and the relationship between exercise and serum lipid level was estimated by covariance analysis. Results: There were 47.1% (807/1712) male and 41.1% (727/1770) female participants having exercise. With controlled age, area, education level, smoking, drinking, BMI and energy expenditure of physical activity outside of exercise (EEPA), serum levels of TC, LDL-C, non-HDL-C and TG were decreased in women by elevated EEexer groups accordingly, and among them, there were significant differences in LDL-C and non-HDL-C levels between groups, P<0.05; compared with No exercise group, in female daily EEexer above median group, LDL-C and non-HDL-C levels decreased about 0.14 mmol/L,P=0.0063 and 0.14 mmol/L, P=0.0155 respectively; while in men, TC, LDL-C, non-HDL-C and TG levels showed a decreasing trends by elevated EEexer groups but with no statistical significance. No association was found for HDL-C in men and women. Conclusion: Serum levels of LDL-C and non-HDL-C were lower in female daily EEexer above median group than No excise group, the effects were independent from working and other physical activities.

Objective To investigate the effect of acupuncture on gap junction protein Cx43 expression in the hippocampal region in ischemia/reperfusion rats. Methods Wistar rats were randomized into normal, model, non-point acupuncture and acupuncture groups. A rat model of focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion was made by modified middle cerebral artery thread occlusion. The model, non-point acupuncture and acupuncture groups were separately divide into four subgroups: 30, 60, 180 and 360 min ischemia/reperfusion, 10 rats each. The middle and lateral lines of vertex were given electroacupuncture in the acupuncture group of rats. A subcostal fixed point 10 mm above the iliac crest on the affect side was selected as an acupuncture point in the non-point acupuncture group. The model group was not treated. Cx43 protein expression was determined by an immunohistochemical method. Results There was a statistically significant difference in the behavior disorder (Bederson’s) score between the acupuncture group and the non-point acupuncture or model group after different times of cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in hippocampal Cx43 content between model, acupuncture or non-point acupuncture group and the normal group and between the acupuncture group and the model or non-point acupuncture group after different times of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (P<0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture can inhibit the overexpression of Cx43, intervene in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and produce a neuroprotective effect in ischemic brain injury.
