ObjectiveTo investigate the mechanism and prevention of invisible injury of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) system in thyroid surgery, with the application of intraoperative neuromonitoring ( IONM ) system. MethodsThe type of invisible RLN injury and its protection with the application of IONM system were analyzed. ResultsThe causes of invisible RLN injury mainly included stretching of Berry ligament or the tumor, contusion, thermal injury, cutting of silk and suction injury. RLN invisible injury was recoverable through neurotrophic and symptomatic treatment. No permanent vocal cord paralysis occurred. ConclusionsWith the application of IONM system, some invisible type of RLN injuries can be found. The risk of RLN injury can be reduced if the surgical techniques are improved with the development of study on mechanism of IONM system.

Natural products are important sources for the discovery of anti-tumor drugs. Evodiamine is the main alkaloid component of the traditional Chinese herb Wu-Chu-Yu, and it has weak antitumor activity. In recent years, a number of highly active antitumor candidates have been discovered with a significant progress. This article reviews the research progress of evodiamine-based antitumor drug design strategies, in order to provide reference for the development of new drugs with natural products as leads.

Objective To report the outcome of emergency repair of severe complex defect in forearm by transplantation of free flap and simultaneous functional reconstruction. Methods From Mar.1994 to Aug.2003,4 cases with severe complex defect in forearm was repaired by transplantation of free skin flap, free skin flap combined with fibula flap,or fibula osteocutaneous flap in emergency.Simultaneously the flexion and extension function were repaired by muscle transfer and/or tendon grafting, tenonectomy. Results All the cases were successful.Follow-up period ranged from 1 to 3 years postoperatively. The blood-supply,tex- ture and elasticity of transferred flaps were excellent with good bone healing.Opposition of thumb with four fin- gers was good.Sensory recovery of the hand was satisfactory. Conclusion Transplantation of free flap com- bined with simultaneous functional reconstruction is an ideal method in emergency repair of severe complex de- fect in forearm.

The therapeutic potential of curcumin (Cur) is hampered by its poor aqueous solubility and low bioavailability. The aim of this study was to determine whether Cur nanoemulsions enhance the efficacy of Cur against prostate cancer cells and increase the oral absorption of Cur.Cur nanoemulsions were developed using the self-microemulsifying method and characterized by their morphology, droplet size and zeta potential. The results showed that the cytotoxicity and cell uptake were considerably increased with Cur nanoemulsions compared to free Cur.Cur nanoemulsions exhibited a significantly prolonged biological activity and demonstrated better therapeutic efficacy than free Cur,as assessed by apoptosis and cell cycle studies. In siru single-pass perfusion studies demonstrated higher effective permeability coefficient and absorption rate constant for Cur nanoemulsions than for free Cur.Our study suggested that Cur nanoemulsions can be used as an effective drug delivery system to enhance the anticancer effect and oral bioavailability of Cur.

Objective To compare the effects of different right ventricular pacing sites on left ventricle systolic function in elderly patients with sick sinus syndrome (SSS).Methods A total of 78 elderly patients with SSS were selected in our hospital from 2014 to 2016,and were divided into the right ventricular apical group (RVA group,40 cases) and right ventricular outflow tract group (RVOT group,38 cases) according to sites of right ventrieular pacing. The QRS duration, accumulative total right ventricular pacing percentage and left ventricle function indicators were compared between the two groups before operation and 3,9 months after operation. Results There was no statistically significant difference in QRS duration and left ventricle function indicators before operation between the two groups (P>0.05).The QRS durations in the RVA group at 3,9 months after operation were longer than those in the RVOT group, there were statistically significant differences (P<0.05).No statistically significant difference was found in accumulative total right ventricular pacing percentage at 9 months after operation between the two groups (P> 0.05).At 9 months after operation, the left ventricular ejection fraction in the RVOT group was higher than that in the RVA group, and the left ventricular end diastolic diameter was lower than that in the RVA group, there were statistically significant differences (P<0.05).Conclusion The effects of RVOT pacing on left ventricle systolic function in elderly patients with SSS is superior to the RVA pacing.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the content of nerve growth factor (NGF) in penis of rats with diabetic erectile dysfunction (DED) and apply rhNGF to treat the DED rat model to study the pathogenesis mechanism of DED and treatment effects by NGF for DED rat model.
METHODSFifty adult male SD rats were randomly selected to make up diabetic models. After 8 weeks, the mRNA and protein levels of NGF in rat penis were detected. Then the rest of rats were divided into 5 groups: normal control group, non-treated diabetes group, NGF treatment group, insulin treatment group, NGF plus insulin treatment group. After 8 weeks of treatment, intracavernous pressure (ICP) was measured. The content of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the erectile tissue was also value- ated by immunohistochemistry staining.
RESULTSCompared with those of normal control group, the mRNA content of NGF and protein in the penis of non-treated diabetic rats is increased significantly. Compared with non-treated diabetic group, ICP was much higher in the treated groups which received NGF or/and insulin therapy, and the changes in nNOS staining of those groups were the same.
CONCLUSIONThe injury of pelvic splanchnic nerves in advanced stage of diabetes may lead to DED, which may be relevant to the abnormal of NGF level or the NGF receptors. The increased extent of NGF in penis of rat with DED suggests that erectile nerves be severely damaged by diabete and the increase of producing NGF couldn't compensate the needs for reproduction of the nerve fibers. The ability of combination of NGF with its receptor may also be damaged. It is helpful to use exogenous NGF to lessen the partly neuropathy and improve the erectile dysfunction of diabetic rats. The abnormal of NGF may play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic ED and its treatment.

OBJECTIVETo compare humoral immune response by co-inoculating mice with antigen HPV16L1 virus-like particle (VLP) and HPV16L1 recombinant plasmids and then observing the neutralizing antibody activity in vitro.
METHODSC57BL/6 mice were injected intramuscularly/subcutaneously with pcDNA-L1 plasmids plus HPV16L1 VLP. Serum IgG levels were detected by ELISA, antibody neutralizing protective activities were determined by hemagglutination inhibition and HPV16L1 VLP binding inhibition assay.
RESULTSSerum antibody titers and neutralizing antibody activities were increased in HPV16L1 plasmids plus HPV16L1 VLP proteins in co-immunized mice when compared with controls.
CONCLUSIONCo-inoculation of the HPV16L1 VLP protein can enhance production of neutralizing antibody activities against aimed antigen, which should be a more promising strategy for effective HPV16 prophylactic vaccine development.

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze pathological characteristics of organs recovered during forensic autopsy submitted by legal medicine experts.
METHODS:
From Baoji city, 358 cases of forensic autopsy specimens from a series of routine exams were collected. And histopathological diagnoses were reviewed.
RESULTS:
Majority of the 358 cases were young men. The major causes of death were trauma, sudden death and poisoning. The cause of death was determined with histology in 250 cases. No typical histological changes were noted in 101 cases. The tissue autolysis and decomposition were present in 7 cases. The major pathological diagnosis was cardiovascular disease, followed by diseases in respiratory, nervous, and digestive systems.
CONCLUSION
Forensic autopsy with its professional characteristics, is different from regular autopsy. When diagnosing cause of death by histopathological examination, pathologists should collaborate with legal medicine experts to know the details of the cases, circumstances surrounding the death, and specific forensic pathological characteristics.
