The origin of northern Artemisia argyi recorded in Compendium of Materia Medica(Bencao gangmu) is Fudao(Chinese characters) in Tangyin county, While there is only Fudao(Chinese characters) instead of Fudao(Chinese characters). Whether indeed Fudao(Chinese characters) is Fudao(Chinese characters)? By reviewing the genuine evolution of A. argyi, doing textual research on Fudao(Chinese characters) and combing with field survey data of national census of Chinese Materia Medica resources, this paper concluded that the word Fudao(Chinese characters) firstly emerged in Figure Canon of Chinese Materia Medica(Bencao tujing) of Susong in Song dynasty and was applied in later generations, but the implication was not clear, then emerged both Tangyin and Fudao(Chinese characters) in Compendium of Materia Medica(Bencao gangmu). The place Fudao(Chinese characters) is one of the graves of Bianque, that existed from Shang and Zhou dynasty and never changed until now, the A. argyi of Tangyin was famous from the grave of Bianque in Fudao(Chinese characters), which could infer that Lishizhen considered Fudao (Chinese characters) was Fudao(Chinese characters) indeed, and the origin of northern A. argyi was Fudao(Chinese characters) in Tangyin county.

Objective Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) has been proposed to be used as an endogenous cardioprotective agent. The aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-apoptosis effect of HGF on rat cardiomyocytes after being irradiated by single dose gamma ray. Methods The study was performed using primary cell cultures of cardiomyocytes isolated from hearts of new-born rats. After being cultured for 72h in vitro, cardiomyocytes were irradiated with gamma ray in a single dose of 20Gy. In the HGF treated groups, cells were incubated with HGF in the dose of 20 and 40ng/ml 3h prior to irradiation, respectively. At 48h post-irradiation, the concentration of LDH in the supernatant of cell culture was determined. Apoptosis and cell cycle were determined with flow cytometry. Objective To evaluate the clinical value of small doses of solifenacin to treat children of primary nocturnal enuresis. Methods Children (n=78) of primary nocturnal enuresis were randomly divided into treatment group(39 cases) and control group(39 cases). All children received behavioral intervention therapy, while children in the treatment group were given Solifenacin(5 mg/tablet, 1/3 tablet, 1 times a day for 3 months) orally besides behavioral therapy. Children were followed up for 3 months after the end of the treatment, and the curative effect and recurrence rate were compared between two groups. Results Compared with that of children in control group, cure rate of children in treatment group is higher at the end of treatment (89.7%vs 69.2%, P<0.05) as well as by 3 month of follow-up time (82.1%vs 46.2%, P<0.05). The re?currence rate of children in treatment group, by three months follow-up time, was lower than that of children in control group (8.6%vs 33.3%,P<0.05). Conclusion Small dose of Solifenacin in addition to behavioral intervention is safe and effec?tive in treatment of children with enuresis, which enhance cure rate and reduce recurrence.

Objective To establish chronic sleep deprivation mouse model,evaluate the learning and memory ability of mice and observe autophagy and apoptosis levels in mouse brain.Methods C57BL/6 mice (n =20) were randomly separated into sleep deprivation group and control group.After 2-month sleep deprivation by using an adapted multiple platform method,the behavioral performance of mice was measured by IntelliCage system.The expression of microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3-Ⅱ (LC3-Ⅱ) and Beclin-1 was detected by Western blotting.Confocol microscopy was used to observe autophagosome.In addition,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) staining was performed to detect neuronal apoptosis level in mouse brain.Results The results of behavioral test showed that the incorrect visit ratio was much higher in sleep deprivation group than that in control group.Moreover,the expression of LC3-Ⅱ (sleep deprivation group 1.681 ± 0.186,control group 1.125 ±0.048,t =2.892,P =0.027 6) and Beclin-1 (sleep deprivation group 1.144 ±0.048,control group 1.006 ± 0.017,t =2.721,P =0.018 6) in mouse hippocampus and cortex was significantly elevated in sleep deprivation group than those in control group.Accordingly,the confocal microscopy observation also revealed an increased nuclear LC3-positive puncta in hippocampus and cortex of sleep deprived mice (hippocampus in sleep deprivation group 1.665 ± 0.153,in control group 0.819 ± 0.072,t =5.024,P =0.002 4;cortex in sleep deprivation group 1.925 ± 0.175,in control group 1.195 ± 0.111,t =3.521,P =0.012 5).In addition,TUNEL staining showed a much higher percentage of TUNEL-positive nuclei in these brain regions (hippocampus in sleep deprivation group 47.24 ± 4.15,in control group 19.26 ± 3.72,t =5.025,P =0.007 4;cortex in sleep deprivation group 42.25 ± 1.25,in control group 27.50 ± 3.23,t =4.262,P =0.005 3).Conclusions Chronic sleep deprivation can impair the learning and memory,increase the expression of LC3-Ⅱ and Beclin-1,elevate the formation of autophagosome,and promote apoptosis in mouse brain.These findings suggest that autophagy and apoptosis might be involved in the cognitive impairment induced by chronic sleep deprivation.

BACKGROUND: There has been increasing attention in the study of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (ALS)and bone metabolism, which is accompanied by osteopenia and osteoporosis. Interleukin(IL) -6, a cytokine that strongly promotes bone resorption, participates in the regulation of bone metablism.OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between changes of bone mineral density(BMD) and serum IL-6 content in AIS.DESIGN: A controlled non-randomized concurrent study involving patients with AIS and and healthy volunteers.SETTING: The clinic and wards of the department of spinal surgery of a university-affiliated hospital.PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-six patients with AIS(6 males and 30 females aged 12 to 18 years) were treated in the Department of Spinal Surgery, Drum Tower Hospital, Medical College of Nanjing University from July to October 2003, who had a Cobb angle ranging from 34° - 109° and curvature of the thoracic spine. Thirty-six healthy adolescent volunteers(7 males and 29 females within the range of 13 - 18 years old) served as the control group.METHODS: The BMD was measured at L2- L4 and the proximal femur;(including the femoral neck, greater trochanter and Ward' s triangle) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and serum IL-6 determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① BMD of the lumbar spine and femur ② Comparison of serum IL-6 content of all the subjects.RESULTS: The BMD of AIS patients at L2- L4, femoral neck, greater trochanter and Ward' s triangle was 0.79±0. 12, 0.78±0. 12, 0.65± 0. 10, and 0. 69 ± 0. 13 g/cm2, respectively, all significantly lower than the corresponding measurements of the control group(1.09 ± 0. 11, 0.95 ± 0. 11,0. 78 ± 0. 10, and 0. 88 ± 0. 11 g/cm2, respectively, P ＜ 0. 001), whereas the serum IL-6 content in the patients was significantly higher than that in the control subjects ( P ＜ 0. 005). The changes of BMD at the lumbar spine and the three sites of femur were negatively correlated with serum IL-6 in AIS patients( P ＜ 0. 001 ), but not so in the control group( P ＞ 0.05).CONCLUSION: The BMD is decreased and serum IL-6 elevated in patients with AIS, and excessive secretion of IL-6 might be one of the important factors of osteopenia in AIS.

AIM: To evaluate the changes in central corneal thickness (CCF) caused by mydriasis with Mydrin-P.METHODS: A total of 106 eyes of 53 patients with refractive errors were studied. Each eye had instillation of Mydrin-P to obtain mydriasis. CCT was examined before and after mydriasis using ultrasonic pachymeter.RESULTS: CCT increased significantly after mydriasis with Mydrin-P.CONCLUSION: Mydrin-P can affect the measurement of CCT.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of the first radioiodine (131 I) ablation of residual thyroid on differentiated thyroid carcinomas after surgery and to analyze the influential factors for efficacy.Methods All 91 differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) patients were treated with 131I after surgery.According to pathologic types of the tumor,surgical options,and time interval between surgery and radioiodine treatment,patients were divided into different groups,then the efficacy was observed.Results Fifty of 91 patients (54.9％) achieved successful thyroid remnant ablation after the first dose.The success rate of first ablation of residual thyroid tissues had no relationship with the pathologic type of the tumor(P ＞ 0.05).While it was statistically related to the surgical options,among which patients undertaking the total thyroidectomy possessed the highest success rate (79.3％)(P ＜0.05).Ninety one patients were divided into 3 groups according to the time interval between surgery and radioiodine ablation:group less than 3 months (3M group),group from 3 to 12 months (3 ～ 12 M group),group beyond 12 months (12M).Among them,the 3M group possessed the highest success rate (68.0％) (P ＜0.05).Conclusions There would be better effect of the first ablation of residual thyroid tissues with total thyroidectomy,ablation conducted within 3 months after surgery.
