Objective To examine the effect of lutein supplementation on visual function in people with long-term display light exposure. Method Thirty-seven persons (age 22-30) with long-term display light exposure were divided into low-dose group, high-dose group, and placebo group involving supplementation with 6 mg lutein/d, 12 mg lutein/d, and placebo for 12 w. The levels of serum lutein and visual function indices such as break-up time (BUT), critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF), visuognosis persistence, and reaction time were measured at week 0 and 12. Results After lutein supplementation serum concentrations of high-dose group and low-dose group increased from (0.328?0.120) ?mol/L to (0.733?0.354) ?mol/L, and from (0.356?0.117) ?mol/L to (0.607?0.176) ?mol/L respectively. There was significant increase of break up time in left eyes of high-dose group. Visuognosis persistence was significantly improved, and significant decrease of simple reaction time was observed in high-dose group. No statistical change was observed in critical flicker fusion frequency, discriminative reaction time and choice reaction time during the study. Conclusion Visual function indices such as break-up time, visuognosis persistence and simple reaction time in people with long-term display light exposure who received lutein supplements were significantly improved.

Objective To studytherolesof hypoxia-inducible factor-lalpha( HIF-1α )and vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) in the pathogenesis of hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension ( HPH) in neonatal rats.Methods Wistar neonatal rats were assigned into HPH group and the control group using random number table method. Neonatal rats in HPH group were exposed to hypoxia according to HPH model. On day 3 , 7 ,14 and 210f hypoxia,the mean pulmonary artery pressure ( mPAP) , the level of mRNA and protein expression of HIF-1α and VEGF in lung tissue were examined using RT-PCR and Western blot methods respectively. The correlation of HIF-1,VEGF and mPAP were also analyzed. Results The mPAP ( mmHg)in HPH group on day 3 ,7 ,14 and 210f hypoxia were all higher than the control up[8.5±1.5)vs.5.2±1.0),(12.1±2.1)vs.9.6±0.8),(12.9±2.0)vs.(9.1±0.8),(21.0±2. 3) vs. (11. 2 + 1. 6) ,P < 0. 05]. 0n day 3, 7 and 140f hypoxia,the mRNA of HIF-1α in lung tissue of HPH group were significantly higher than the control group ( P <0. 05 ) . On day 70f hypoxia, the HIF-1αprotein in lung tissue of HPH group was significantly higher than the control group(P <0. 05 ) . On day 7 ,14 and 210f hypoxia,the mRNA and protein of VEGF in lung tissue of HPH group were also significantly higher than the control group( P <0. 05 ). Correlation analysis showed that HIF-1α protein were positively correlated with mPAP on day 3 ,7 . 14 and 210f hypoxia in HPH group ( r = 0. 504 .P = 0. 002) , and VEGF protein were positively correlated with mPAP in HPH group on day 7 , 14 and 210f hypoxia( r = 0. 782, P < 0. 001) .Conclusion Both HIF-1α and VEGF play roles in the occurrence and development of HPH in neonatal rats.

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of glargine(Lantus) versus biphasic insulin aspart 30 (30% free and 70% protamine-bound, BIAsp 30) after continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion treatment (CSII) in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A 20 week open and random study was performed. All 60 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM were randomly divided into two groups. Group B patients was treated by glargine and group A received treatment with BIAsp 30 administered immediately before dinner and breakfast. Blood glucose at 7 time points, glycosylated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c) and hypoglycemia were observed. Results The postprandial glucose(PPG) was significantly lower in group B than in group A (P<0.05), and the frequency of hypoglycaemic episodes was lower in group B than in group A (P<0.05). The fasting blood glucose(FBG) was not different between two groups (P>0.05). And there was no difference between two groups in HbA1c and other adverse events. Conclusions Glargine is surperior to BIAsp30, not only in controlling the PPG but also in reducing the incidence of hypoglycemia.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Liangxue-Xiaofeng Decoction combined with acitretin A capsule in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. Methods:A total of 80 patients with psoriasis vulgaris from March 2015 to June 2019 in our hospital, who met the inclusion criteria, were divided into two groups according to the random number table method, 40 patients in each group. The control group was given acitretin A capsules on the basis of conventional western medicine treatment, and the study group was given Liangxue-Xiaofeng Decoction on the basis of the control group. Both groups were treated for 2 months and followed up for 6 months. The skin lesion area and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores were performed before and after treatment. The levels of IL-8, IL-6 and TNF-α were detected by real time PCR amplification, and the levels of histone acetyltransferase (HATs) and histone deacetylase (HDACs) by ELISA. The adverse reactions and recurrence during the follow-up period were recorded and the clinical efficacywas evaluated. Results:The total effective rate of the study group was 82.5% (33/40) and that of the control group was 62.5% (25/40). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant ( χ2=4.012, P=0.045). After treatment, the PASI score of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group ( t=7.921, P<0.01), and the serum levels of IL-8, IL-6 and TNF-α were significantly lower than those in the control group ( t=12.749, 13.933, 10.856, all Ps<0.01); the activity of HATs [(35.03 ± 3.79) g/L vs. (29.26 ± 2.41) g/L, t=8.125] of the study group was significantly higher than that of the control group ( P<0.01), and HDACs activity [(31.00 ± 2.71) g/L vs. (37.55 ± 3.08) g/L, t=10.098] of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group ( P<0.01). Conclusions:Acitretin A capsule combined with Liangxue-Xiaofeng Decoction can reduce the level of inflammatory cytokines in patients with psoriasis vulgaris, and prevent the disease progression. The mechanism may be related to the regulation of homeostasis balance in acetylation.

Objective To explore the impact of a“one-week”staged multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus culprit-only PCI on deaths and major adverse cardiac events (MACE). Methods We retrospectively analyzed 447 patients with multivessel disease who experienced a ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) within 12 h before undergoing PCI between July 26, 2008 and Septem-ber 25, 2011. After completion of PCI in the infarct artery, 201 patients still in the hospital agreed to undergo PCI in non-infarct arteries with more than 70%stenosis for a“one-week”staged multivessel PCI. A total of 246 patients only received intervention for the culprit vessel. Follow-up ended on September 9, 2014. This study examined the differences in deaths from any cause (i.e., cardiac and noncardiac) and MACE between the two treatment groups. Results Compared to a culprit-only PCI treatment approach, the“one-week”staged multivessel PCI was strongly associated with greater benefits for 55-month all cause death [41 (16.7%) vs.13 (6.5%), P=0.004] and MACE [82 (33.3%) vs. 40 (19.9%), P=0.002] rates. In addition, there were significant differences in the number of myocardial infarctions [43 (17.5%) vs. 20 (10.0%), P=0.023], coronary-artery bypass grafting [CABG;20 (8.1%) vs. 6 (3.0%), P=0.021], and PCI [31 (12.6%) vs. 12 (6.0%), P=0.018]. Patients undergoing culprit-only PCI compared to“one-week”PCI had the same number of stent thrombosis events [7 (2.8%) vs. 3 (1.5%), P=0.522]. Conclusions Compared to a culprit-only PCI treatment approach,“one-week”staged multi-vessel PCI was a safe and effective selection for STEMI and multi-vessel PCI.

Objective To explore the mechanism of glucocorticoids in the treatment of acute lung injury(ALI) by studying the expression changes of aquaporin-1 (AQP-1) in the lung.Methods SpragueDawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups,which were ALI group injected by lipopolysaccharide (LPS group),therapy group treated by methylprednisolone (Mp) after LPS injection (Mp group) and control group injected by normal saline.PaO2 and wet/dry mass ratio were assayed at 6 hours after the injection.Changes of AQP-1 expression in the lungs were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR),and pathological examination was performed in each group.Results RT-PCR results showed that the expression of AQP-1 in LPS group was lower than that in control group (0.28 ± 0.05 vs 0.50 ± 0.24,P ＜ 0.05),while the expression of AQP-1 in Mp group was higher than that in LPS group (0.47 ±0.16 vs 0.28 ±0.05,P ＜0.05).The immunohistochemistry results were consistent to the RT-PCR results,meanwhile glucocorticoids therapy could improve the blood oxygen level (P ＜ 0.01),reduce the wet/dry mass ratio (P ＜ 0.05) and relieve the lung injury.Conclusion Glucocorticoids may have beneficial effects on ALI by affecting the expression of AQP-1 in the lungs of rats.

A novel peptide, named BF2-X, was designed based on the structure-activity analysis of an analogue of Buforin II, named BF2-A. The BF2-X was a hybrid peptide containing the N-terminal residues 5 to 13 of BF2-A and three repeats of the C-terminal regular alpha-helical motif RLLR, and the residues 8 valine were replaced by leucine. The results of bioinformatics analysis had showed that compared with BF2-A, the helicity, positive charge, hydrophobicity rate and C-terminal amphipathy of BF2-X had remarkably enhanced. Both peptides showed a random coil structure in an aqueous solution, while displaying a typical alpha-helical structure in 50% trifluoroethanol solution (a membrane mimic condition). BF2-X exhibited higher alpha-helical contents than BF2-A in hydrophobic environment. BF2-X displayed potent antimicrobial activities against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. And BF2-X showed stronger antimicrobial activities against bacteria tested than parent peptide BF2-A. These results suggest that the alpha-helical content was directly correlated with the enhanced antibacterial activity. Both peptides had no hemolytic action on mouse erythrocyte.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of prostate specific antigen (PSA) (fPSA, fPSA/tPSA, PSAD) combined with value of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) between total PSA (tPSA) 4- 10 μg/L. Methods From December 2013 to 2015 February , 56 elderly male patients with serum tPSA 4-10μg/L were enrolled. Pathological examination confirmed 26 patients with PCa and 30 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The levels of tPSA and free PSA(fPSA) , fPSA/tPSA, Prostate specific antigen density(PSAD), ADC value according to the DWI, choline(Cho), creatine(Cre) and citrate(Cit) in MRS were analyzed, and ADC, (Cho+Cre)/Cit combined with PSAD and fPSA/tPSA in PCa diagnosis was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Results The level of tPSA in PCa group and BPH group had no significant difference (P >0.05), but the levels of fPSA、fPSA/tPSA、prostate volume, PSAD, (Cho+Cre)/Cit, ADC had significant difference:(1.04 ± 0.14) μg/L vs. (1.22 ± 0.34) μg/L, 0.15(0.14- 0.16) vs. 0.17(0.15-0.18), (41.45 ± 5.70) cm3 vs. (48.70 ± 9.97) cm3, 0.17(0.15-0.18) ng/(ml·cm3) vs. 0.16(0.14-0.17) ng/(ml·cm3), 2.22 ± 0.59 vs. 1.17 ± 0.52, 0.98 ± 0.28 vs. 1.39 ± 0.24, P < 0.01 or < 0.05. The area under the curve of (AUC) fPSA/tPSA+PSAD+(Cho+Cre)/Cit、fPSA/tPSA+PSAD+ADC、fPSA/tPSA+PSAD+(Cho+Cre)/Cit+ADC were 0.932, 0.941 and 0.977, and the AUC of fPSA/tPSA+PSAD+(Cho+Cre)/Cit+ADC was the highest. Conclusions PSAD and fPSA/tPSA and the value of ADC in DWI and MRS can be used in diagnosis of PCa.
