Journal of Medicinal Materials - Hanoi 2003;8(4):127-128
Materials and methods: Wild growing Adenosma caeruleum R.Br. (Scrophulariaceae) was collected at Dak Mil district (Dak Lak province) in July 2002 for oil preparation. The oil analysis was carried out by a combination of capillary gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Results: The essential oil was obtained from the aerial part of the plant at the yield of 0.5% compared with dried materials. 38 chemical compounds were identified. The major components were thymol (24.67%), alpha-humulene (16.44%), thymyl methylether (12.59%), gamma-terpinene (12.26%), beta-caryophyllene (5.82%), beta-bisabolene (5.67%), p-cymene (4.58%), humulene oxide (3.59%) and caryophyllene oxide (2.76%).

2.Present situation and prospect of development and vaccination of acellular pertussis vaccine
Chinese Journal of Biologicals 2023;36(2):235-
Whooping cough(pertussis)is a highly contagious respiratory disease, which mainly affects infants and young children.Vaccination is an effective measure to prevent pertussis infection.Due to the fewer side effects, acellular pertussis vaccines(aPVs)have replaced whole-cell pertussis vaccine(wPVs)in many countries.Despite vaccination coverage is high, the short immunity induced by aPVs is considered to be significant reason for the re-emergence of pertussis. For improving pertussis vaccine, genetically detoxified vaccine and live attenuated vaccine have showed obvious clinical results and other strategies including using novel adjuvants in aPVs,increasing antigen or packaging aPVs with nanoparticles also have good prospects. This paper reviews the antigen composition and protective effects of aPVs,vaccination programs in different countries, potential candidate components of pertussis vaccine and new strategies for prevention of pertussis.

4.Evaluation of nutritional status and some related factors in children under 5 years old at 2 communes of Tien Giang province
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;510(4):95-96
Study on nutritional status of 866 children less than 5 years old who were living in 2 communes of Cai Be district, Tien Giang province. Results: prevalence of malnutrition in children <5 years old at 2 communes was 21.4%, in An Thai Dong commune was 21.2% and in My Trung commune was 21.4%. Malnutrition often was mild, 27.7% malnutrition children were between 12 and 24 months. However, there were overweight and obesity children. Most of mothers had knowledge of nutrition and nursing for their children. 79.69% mother knew that it’s necessary to give more fluid, 79.69% mother continued normal diet when their children suffered from diarrhea. There wasn’t any difference of nutritional status between a flooded commune and a normal commune. It wasn’t found the association of nutritional status and some factors such as nutritional habits, the time to give supplementary foods. It’s needed to strengthen education and communication activities in order to improve the nutritional knowledge and practice of the mothers, to reduce the rate of malnutrition as well as overweight and obesity in children <5 years old.

5.To find the correlation between abdomen perimeter and the fetal natural age from 28 to 41 week age
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;469(12):39-41

6.Assessment of the prognostic value of fatal risk on premature neonate underweight children admitted to the Department of resuscitation of Hospital II of Pediatrics in 2000-2002 year, using CRIB score scale
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;469(12):59-62
The study conducted on 58 premature neonate underweight infants at the Department of Resuscitation of the Pediatric Hospital N02 from Febuary 2000 to December 2002 had showed a high mortality of 74.1%. 100% of premature neonate underweight infants under 850g at birth died. The died infant had lower weight at birth, mean arterial blood pH was lower, mean arterial blood PaCO2 was higher. CRIB score had prognostic value to predict the mortality of premature neonate underweight infants using ROC curb and the undercurb superficial zone

7.Assessment of mass deworming by Mebendazole after 3, 6 and 18 months in Quynh Luu, Nghe An province
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):79-88
The study was conducted from September 2003 to April 2005 to assess results of the mass deworming campaign in 5 primary schools in Quynh Luu district, central province of Nghe An. A pre-intervention survey showed a cumulative worm prevalence of 98%, of which the highest rate was Trichuris infection: 85.1% followed by Ascaris: 83.6% and hookworm 30.3%. No difference of infection between females and males was found. Mixed infection was high with 54.3% had co-infection with Ascaris and Trichuris (88%), and 24.8% had triple infection, while a low single infection rate (20.8%) of which Trichuris was predominant, was found. A low prevalence of high intensity of infections was found with Ascaris (6.5%), hookworm (1 %), Trichuris (0.5%) while a high prevalence of low intensity was found with all examined samples. The worm prevalence was found reduced after periodical mass deworming (every six months) with mebendazole 500mg, single dose. The cumulative infection reduced from 98% to 84.5% after six months and 72.2% after 18 months. Similarly, the Ascaris infection came down from 83.6% to 52.7% and 32.7%, the Trichuris from 85.1% to 70.6% and 56.1%. However, hookwonn infection remained nearly unchanged (30.3% to 31.3% and 31.1 %). The high and moderate intensity of infection was also reduced after intervention. The egg counts were reduced by 60% after 6 months, 73% after 18 months (after the third treatment) with Ascaris. Accordingly, it was reduced by 40% and 70%, respectively with Trichuris. No changes were found with hookwonn. The intestinal wonn infection control project supported by WHO has been a successful project in tenn of both technical and social aspects. The project was performed with good compliance of school children, their parents and teachers. Expertise and qualification of the provincial staffs were also enhanced with regard to public health in general, and intestinal worm infection control, in particular.

8.Evaluation of nutritional status and some correlated factors of children under five in two villages in Tien Giang province
Journal Ho Chi Minh Medical 2005;9(3):176-181
A cross sectional study was carried out on 866 children under 5 years old and all mothers with children under 2 years old in 2 villages of Cai Be district, Tien Giang province (one village often suffered by flooding and one village rarely had flooding). Household KAP interviews using structured questionnaire have been conducted. The weight and height of all children were measured. Results: In two villages, the percentage of malnourished children was still high (21.24%). Simultaneously, obesity in children under five (1.7%) emerged as a new health issue. All these risk factors: educational status of fathers and mothers, practice in feeding (giving the child fluid during 24 hours after birth, feeding during the child experienced diarrheae), starvation of families, knowledge on growth chart, time of first feeding the baby with supplementary food, time of weaning were investigated. There is no statistic significant association of those risk factors with nutritional status of children under five between the two villages
