Aim The kinetics of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (N-AChR) was stadied. MethodsThe saturation experiments of Torpedo electric organ N-AChR were taken with125I-?-BuTX. The results were calculated by Scatfit program. Experiments were thenperformed to study the kinetics of dissociation of ?-BuTX and nicotine from N-AChR,respectively. When their binding reached saturation, an excess of 1000 times ?-BuTX ornicotine was added. The saturation binding properties of the N-AChR extracted fromleg muscles of the 13th day chick embroys and optic lobes of the 20th day chick em-broys were studied. The results were calculated by Scatfit program. The othe experi-ments were taken to observe the competition between mcotine and 125I-?-BuTX forbinding with Torpedo, optic lobe and skeletal muscle of the chick N-AChRs. ResultsThe saturation experiments of Torpedo electric organ N-AChR resulted in a Scatchardplot of hyperbola which responded to the model of two kinds of receptor with on eli-gand.The difference of and B max between high affinity binding site and low affnitybineing site was significant. The dissaciation experiment showed that the fast dissocia-tion rate of tow ligands was 500 times more than that of the slow dissociation rate. Thisresult suggested that there may be two subtype N-AChRs.The saturation bindingproperties of N-AChR of leg muscles and optic lobe of the chick embroys revealed aScatchard plot of two kinds of N-AChR indicating a single type of site. The bindingaffinity of receptor of optic lobe was 100 times more than that of muscles. In competi-tion for Torpedo receptor by nicotine and 125I-?-BuTX, the values of IC50 were different:which suggested that two kinds of receptor sites were existent. In competition ofNicotine and 125I-?-BuTX for optic lobe and skeletal muscles of the chick N-AChR, thevalue IC50 of skeletal muscles N-AChR was 7. 7 times higher than that of optic lobe. Itindicated that two kinds of N-AChR subtype existed in the optic lobe and in theskeletal muscles of chick respectively. Conclusion N-AChR of Torpedo electric organcontains two kinds of subtype receptors. N-AChR of optic lobe of chick embroys is onesubtype receptor, and N-AChR of skeletal muscles of chick embroy is another subtypereceptor.

To investigate the suitable site environment for Atractylodes lancea, field trials in different niches was carried out, and the seedling growth, biomass and volatile oil components in different microhabitas was studied. The study found that the survival rate, plant height, volatile oil content of those which growing under the bamboo were significantly higher than those exposed in the open field. The survival rate understory was (76 ± 15.1) %, plant height understory was (77 ± 14. 8) cm and the summation of the four kinds of volatile oil content understory reached up to 4.09%; The same evaluation values of these indicators of the four faces in the open field respectively: survival rate is 30%, plant height was (77 ± 14.8) cm and the summation of the four kinds of volatile oil content was 2.24%. But, the yield of the understory (41 ± 22.3) g was significantly lower than those four faces in the open field (104.5 g) on the contrary. For the four open field towards, the yield of the east facing, which organic matter and other nutritional conditions were better than others, was significantly higher than those in the other facings. A. lancea was found to be an anti-poor and shading-like or growing in east facing slope herb through the correlation analysis of light, temperature, soil and leaf nutrients with seedling growth, biomass and volatile oil components. It also reminds us that the understory herb with high survival rate, low incidence, low management costs, and high medicinal ingredients, although it's production is not so high, but it can be improved by increased organic fertilizer. So the ecological planting patterns which can intercropping herbs with the forest was proposed.

BACKGROUND: Previous animal experiments have shown that epimedium total flavonoids can exhibit preventive effects on estrogen-related bone loss, but few data are available in clinical research.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of pimedium total flavonoids on bone mineral density (BMD) inprimary osteoporosis.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, double-blinded, positively controlled clinical observation was performed at the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology between June 2005 and September 2007.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 64 patients with primary osteoporosis consisting of 11 males and 53 females were included in this study. METHODS: All patients were randomly and evenly assigned into a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group was orally administered epimedium total flavonoids, 0.45 g once, three times daily, for a total of 6 months. Simultaneously, the control group was orally administered Gushukang, 10 g once, twice daily, for a total of 6 months. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: BMD in the sites of lumbar vertebrae (L1-4), neck of femur, Wards triangle, greater trochanter, and left hip was measured, and simultaneously serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were detected pdor to and after treatment in each group.RESULTS: All 64 patients with primary osteoporosis were included In the final analysis, The BMD in the lumbar vertebrae (L1-4) was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05) and there was no significant difference In BMD in other sites between the two groups (P>0.05). Compared with pdor to drug application, BMD in the treatment group did not present obvious change after epimedium total flavonoids application, while in the control group, BMD in the sites of lumbar vertebrae (L1-4), neck of femur, Wards triangle, and greater trochanter was significantly decreased (P<0.01-0.05). After drug application, serum level of calcium was significantly increased in each group, compared with prior to drug application (P<0.05), and no significant difference existed between the treatment and control groups (P>0.05). Tn the treatment group, serum levels of phosphorus and ALP did not alter significantly compared with prior to epimedium total flavonoids application (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Epimedium total flavonoids exhibit effective effects on the maintenance of BMD in primary osteoporosis.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2014;34(5):511-515
The data mining technique is adopted to analyze characteristics and rules of acupoint and meridian selection of acupuncture-moxibustion for treatment of vertigo at different time periods in the ancient. The data is collected from literature regarding acupuncture-moxibustion from the pre-Qin period to the end of Qing Dynasty, so as to establish a clinical literature database of ancient acupuncture-moxibustion for treatment of vertigo. Data mining method is applied to analyze the commonly used meridians, acupoints and special acupoints in different dynasties, also possible rules are explored. Totally 82 pieces of prescription of acupuncture-moxibustion for treatment of vertigo are included. In the history the leading selection of acupoitns are Fengchi (GB 20), Hegu (LI 4), Shangxing (GV 23) and Jiexi (ST 41) while that of meridians are mainly three yang meridians of foot and the Governor Vessel, especially the acupoints on the Bladder Meridian of foot yangming had the highest utilization rate, accounting for 23.04%. The acupoint selection is characterized by special acupoint, accounting for 80.6%, among which the crossing points are the most common choice. Distal-proximal acupoints combination is the most frequent method. The results indicate that the ancient acupuncture-moxibustion for treatment of vertigo focused on acupoints in the yang meridians, and the specific acupoints play an essential role in prescription; also the principle of syndrome differentiation and selecting acupoints along the meridians could be seen.
