2.Effects of Monosodium Glutamate on Survival and Reproductive Ability of Drosophila melanogaster
Journal of Environment and Health 1992;0(04):-
Objective To study the effects of monosodium glutamate on viability and fertility of filial generation Drosophila. Methods Different concentrations(15,30,45 g/L)of L,H,T monosodium glutamate(MSG)were added in the medium for wildtype Drosophila melanogaster, and the non-MSG medium was taken as the control group,3 pairs of Drosophilas in each bottle and 3 repeats in each group, the first and second filial generation adult Drosophila's eclosion time(growth period) and the number of offspring within 7 days(reproduction quantity),and the death count in 30 days of 20 Drosophilas were observed and recorded. Results Compared with the control group, the reproduction quantity of Drosophila significantly increased, the growth period shortened in the first filial generation in 15 g/L of T MSG group. As the MSG concentrations increased, the reproduction quantity reduced significantly, the survival rate of Drosophila in 30 days declined significantly. The reproduction quantity in second filial generation increased at the initial stage of exposure and then decreased as the MSG concentrations increased. Conclusion The results of the present paper indicates that low-dose of MSG may be the advantage for survival and reproduction of Drosophila, but high doses will produce adverse effects.

Objective To investigate whether serum miRNA-720 and miRNA-484 can be used as non-invasive biomarkers of colon cancer. Methods Real time-polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expressions of miRNA-720 and miRNA-484 in serum from 104 colon cancer patients(divided intoⅠ~Ⅱ-stage group andⅢ~Ⅳ-stage group)compared with 60 ad-ditional healthy controls.ROC curve was performed to analyse the diagnostic usefulness of both miRNAs distinguishing be-tween different stages of colon cancer patients. Results Compared with healthy controls, the miRNA-720 was upregulated close to 2 times inⅠ~Ⅱ-stage group (t=1.997,P<0.05),and was upregulated about 3 times inⅢ~Ⅳ-stage group (t=2.133,P<0.05).The miRNA-484 was downregulated almost 2 times inⅠ~Ⅱ-stage group (t=2.585,P<0.05),but was upregulated over 3 times in Ⅲ~Ⅳ-stage group (t=3.416,P<0.01).The area under the ROC curve (AUC)for the diag-nosis of colon cancer were 0.76 (95%CI:0.67~0.86)and 0.79 (95%CI:0.69~0.89)respectively.The combined use of both miRNAs could make the AUC up to 0.87 (95%CI:0.77~0.96).Conclusion Serum miRNA-720 and miRNA-484 can be used as non-invasive biomarkers to diagnose early colon cancer. They can also distinguish between different stages of co-lon cancer patients.
8.Biological treatment for intervertebral disc degeneration.
China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2016;29(6):576-580
Neck shoulder pain or lumbocrural pain caused by intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) could seriously affect the qualities life of patients. Current treatments mainly focus on alleviating pain and the symptoms of nerve compression, which could not radically stop the process of intervertebral disc degeneration, but conversely lead to high recurrence rate. In recent years, scholars have turned to study the biological treatment for repair and rebuild the intervertebral disc by biological molecular therapy, gene therapy, cell therapy and tissue engineering to solve the problem of intervertebral disc degeneration, while most of the above methods are still in animal experiments or in vitro experiments and the clinical application is still a long way to go.
