Brain ischemic tolerance refers to endogenous brain protective mechanism during severe ischemic injury of the body. Ischemia preconditioning is an effective mean to induce brain ischemic tolerance. However, the invasive and ethical limitation made the application of ischemic preconditioning difficult in the clinical practice. Studies found that extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway played an important role in the formation of brain ischemic tolerance. Meanwhile, brain ischemic tolerance induced by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) had its unique advantages. This article reviewed effects of ERK signaling pathway in the inducing of brain ischemic tolerance and TCM intervention in recent years.

Objective To evaluate the influence of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on NT-proBNP and Hs-CRP level of the elderly with coronary heart disease. Methods Twenty-four patients who underwent PCI, and thirty patients who underwent coronary angiography (CAG) were enrolled in this study. Plasma NT-proBNP and Hs-CRP concentrations before and at 0, 1 h, 24 h and 72 h after PCI were assayed in all patients. Results There were no significant difference in plasma NT-proBNP level at baseline level between the PCI and CAG group, and also no significant change in the CAG group after the procedure. Plasma NT-proBNP level was increased significantly from 231.31?233.52 pg/mL to the peak concentration of 663.75?614.93 pg/mL at 24 h after PCI. Statistical differences were observed between the baseline levels and at 24 h as well as 72 h after the operation in the PCI group. Plasma NT-proBNP concentrations also showed significant differences between the PCI and CAG group at each time point after the procedures. Remarkable elevation in plasma Hs-CRP level was observed at 72 h after procedure in all patients. Conclusion Elevation of plasma NT-proBNP concontrations might be induced by transient myocardial ischemia in PCI. NT-proBNP may be a marker of myocardial ischemia and may be useful to detect untypical ischemia in the elderly. Plasma Hs-CRP increased at 72 h after PCI and CAG, which may be related to inflammation reaction induced by vessel puncture.

Chinese Journal of Cancer Biotherapy 1994;0(01):-
Abnormal elevation and abnormal isoenzyme of non-specific esterase (?-NAE) are intimately associated with the genesis and development of cancer.Anti-GCBAP is a new kind of biological response modifier(BRM) which is separated from gastric cancer cells immunized animal spleen. As determined by clonogenic assay. Anti-GCBAP displayed highly-potent, specific cytotoxicity regarding to target cancer cells. In the present study, we have further investigated the effect of Anti-GCBAP on the ?-NAE isoenzymes in gastric cancer-bearing nude mice. The results demonstrated that in vivo adminstration of Anti-GCBAP can not only inhibit tumor growth in tumor-bearing mice, compared with control(p

Objective To investigate the changes in the e xpressions of P53 mRNA and Bcl-2 mRNA in spermatogenic cells in rats after expo sure to ultrasound to elucidate the possible mechanisms underlying the apoptosis induced by ultrasound at genetic trascription level. Methods Thirty-two healthy male SD rats,(30±2) days old and (70±5) grams body weight, were randomized into 4 groups (n=8) according to the time of exposure to ultrasound, including control group without exposure,gr oups of 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes with exposure to ultrasound for 10 ,20 and 30 min, respectively. Samples were taken 24 hours after exposure to ultra sound, then 4% paraformal-dehyde fixed,paraffin-embedded and sectioned into 4 μm sections (slides were pretreated with APES and poly-lysine). P53 and Bcl-2 in situ hybridization kits were purchased from Wuhan Boshida Bio-engineering C o.Results There was no significant difference in the expressions o f P53 mRNA or Bcl-2 mRNA in sperematogenic cells in rats between the control gr oup and 10 minutes group. The expressions of P53 mRNA in groups over 10 minutes were up-regulated and that of Bcl-2 mRNA were down-regulated. P53 mRNA in s permatogenic cells in rats was increased from (44.13±5.05)% in control group to (60.47±6.57)% in group 30 minutes. Bcl-2 mRNA was decreased f rom (40.29±9.10)% in control group to (31.01±5.67)% in group 3 0 minutes. Conclusions Exposure to ultrasound over 10 minutes can induce up -regulatory expressions of P53 mRNA and down-regulatory expressions of Bcl-2 mRNA in spermatogenic cells in rats.

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 1996;5(6):244-246,57
Cavernous transformation of the portal vein in children is a non-hepatic disease of portal hypertension.Color Doppler flow imaging was performed in 7 children with cavernous transformation of the portal vein. All cases were operated and diagnosis was confirned by pathology. The accuracy of diagnosis reached 100%.Some of these cases were examimed by portogram and CT.Three types of sonographs were classified by CDFI:I-extrahepatic I-intrahepatic and extrahepatic;II-intrahepatic.It is suggested that the combination of characteristic color Doppler flow and reahime appearance of cavenous transformation is virtually diagnostic.

Objective To investigate the effects on proliferation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) by recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in mice. Methods Kunming mice were randomly divided into G-CSF and control groups (n=15). The mice were subjected to subcutaneous injections of rhG-CSF at a dose of 80 ?g/kg per day and control of saline for 5 days. The bone marrow was obtained on 6th, 12th and 168th h respectively after the final administration. The MSCs were separated and cultured, and the colony-forming unit-fibroblast (CFU-F) was evaluated. The cell cycle and the surface antigens were analyzed by flow cytometry. Results The number of CFU-F was increased after administration of the rhG-CSF (P 0.05). Flow cytometic detection of MSCs surface marks in fibroblast colony showed CD34~ -, CD133~ -, CD90~ + and CD105~ +, with the percentage of 2.5 %, 3.1 %, 67.0 % and 78.0 %, respectively. After mobilization with rhG-CSF, the percentage of G_0/G_1 phases in bone marrow MNCs was decreased (P

Journal of Third Military Medical University 1984;0(02):-
In order to locate the level of nitroquine action on the folate metabolism, ni-troquine was given to the mice infected with P. berghei or P. yoelii. To the first group of mice, different doses of nitroquine were given to its five subgroups. The second group of mice received the same doses of nitroquine as the first group but calcium leucovorin (folinic acid) 6 mg/kg/day intramuscularly, folic acid 20 mg/kg/day intramuscularly, or PABA 20 mg/kg/day orally were given to different subgroups respectively at the same time. It was found that the dose-effective curve of nitroquine was shifted to the right when PABA was administered simultaneously and the CD50 of nitroquine at that time was larger than that of nitroquine used singly. Both calcium leucovorin and folic acid essentially showed no antigonistic effects. From the antigonistic action of PABA against nitroquine) it is suggested that nitroquine is likely to achieve its antimalarial effect through its competition for dihydropteric acid synthetase with PABA. Other chains on the folic acid metabolism were also discussed.
