Rumex japonicus Houttuyn are ubiquitous plants, which are found in marshes or in wet areas. The root of Rumex japonicus Houttuyn has been used for the treatment of skin diseases including fungal infections of the skin since older times in Japan and China. This study was undertaken to investigate the antifungal activity of the alcoholbenzene extract of Rumex japonicus Houttuyn in vitro. During this experiment the extracts of Rumex japonicus Houttuyn were diluted seriaIly in the Sabouraud's dextrose agar and fungal mats or fungal suspensions of isolated strains of dermatophytes were inoculated into each medium containing different concentrations of test materials. We studied the contents of referral sheets of the patients transferred to DMC Emergency Center from Jan 1, 1999 to Jan 31, 1999. The study far the completion and chief complaints in the referral sheets shows the followings. 1. Examining the referral sheets status of disease, name and age record of 5 major items grade 0.92, the highest point, examining item and laboratorial record grade 0.72, dignosis record grades 0.38, and patients condition and diagnosis opinion record grade 0.10. 2, Name and age item had high completion score in referral sheets from local clinic and hospital for secondary referral level. For address item, however, local clinic scored 0.63 and hospital for secondary referral level scored 0.28, which showed statistically significant difference(P<0.001). 3. In the aspect of severity, name and age record leveled 0.94 to the non emergency patient, 0.92 to the emergency patient, 0.91 urgent patient, showed and no statistic significant difference. 4. The major 10 symptoms of the complaints were these the pain of abdomen and pelvis(25.2%), somnolence and stupor, coma(13.6%), headache(10.9%), and open wound of head(4.0%), ranked 10th common symptom level.

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma is a rare subtype of undifferentiated carcinoma in the salivary gland. The incidence of lymphoepithelial carcinoma is about 0.4% among the patients with major salivary gland tumors. It has a racial preference; about 75% of the patients are of Mongolian ancestry. We report a case of lymphoepithelial carcinoma arising in the left parotid gland of a 52-year-old man. Grossly, the tumor was relatively well demarcated, gray-white, and solid. Microscopically, the irregular shaped syncytial tumor cell islands were evident within lymphoplasma cell-rich and desmoplastic stroma. The carcinoma cells had large vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli. The tumor invaded the surrounding salivary gland tissue. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was demonstrated by in situ hybridization for EBV-encoded RNA-1 (EBER-1) and polymerase chain reaction for EBV nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA-1).

Pigmented neurofibroma, a variant of neurofibroma, has rarely been observed in patients with or without neurofibromatosis. Pigmented neurofibroma is characterized histologically by the coexistence of scattered melanin-laden cells and benign spindle cells with neural differentiation. We report a case of pigmented neurofibroma in a 22-year-old female patient.

We present our technique for reconstruction of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) using the quadrupled hamstring tendons with EndoButton(Acufex Microsurgical, Mansfield, MA). This paper describes the surgical technique of the procedures and reports the preliminary results in 10 patients with a more than 12 months follow-up. There were 8 males and 2 females ranging in age from 17 to 37 years (average 25 years). The average time from injury to operation was 3 weeks (range; 2 weeks to 4 weeks). Of ten patients, 6 were classified as an isolated tear, 2 were associated with lateral collateral ligament tears. A torn meniscus was present in 2 cases. We used one-incision technique. The results of these PCL reconstructions with a minimum follow-up of 12 months are as follows. Patients were evaluated preand postoperatively using the Lysholm, and Hospital for Special Surgery Knee ligament rating scales. Average knee ligament evaluation scores were Lysholm preoperative 48, postoperative 87.6; and Hospital for Special Surgery preoperatively 33.5, postoperative 88.8. We chose the semitendinosus and gracilis tendons with EndoButton fixation for PCL reconstruction for specific reasons: (1) No injury to the extensor mechanism and (2) Easy passage of the graft through the tibial tunnel. (3) The problem about the screw and patellar bone-tendon-bone can be resolved. (4) It preserves intact meniscofemoral ligament, some intact fibers of PCL bundle. (5) When rupture of the PCL is associated with ACL tear, each ligament should be reconstructed. In such a case, we preserve patellar tendon for reconstruction of the ACL, The technique presented here is not applicable to all individuals requiring PCL reconstruction but does provide significant advantages to those patients for whom it is utilized. Although the clinical results are very promising at this length of follow up, long-term study is required to evaluate our PCL reconstruction procedure more precisely.
