Objective To study the relationship between serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-Ⅰ) levels and prostatic cancer. Methods The levels of IGF-Ⅰwas measured with immunoradiometric assay(IRMA) in 37 cases of prostatic cancer,35 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and in 20 healthy subjects as controls. The serum IGF-I levels were compared to the clinical and pathological grading of the prostatic cancer.8 cases of prostatic cancer after operation have been followed up. Results The mean levels of serum IGF-I in prostatic cancer (325.6?100.8 ng/ml) were significantly higher than those in BPH (201.6?53.8 ng/ml) and healthy subjects (179.0?57.2 ng/ml) (P0.05).Statistical difference was noted before ( 315.8?87.0 ng/ml) and after (224.8? 88.4 ng/ml) PCa operation(P0.05). Conclusions The levels of serum IGF-I may be a new marker to prognose and for early diagnosis of PCa in high risk population.

AIM: To study the activation effects of maize pollen polysaccharides(PPM) on human thoracic cavity macrophage (hTM). METHODS: Activities of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) and acid phosphatase (ACP) in the hTM were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer, and the level of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-?) and interleukin-6(IL-6) in the hTM was analyzed by radioimmunoassay, after hTM were cultured with 0.312,0.625, 1.250, 2.500, 5.000 mg/mL PPM-RPMI 1640 for 24 and 48 hours in vitro. RESULTS: The activities of LDH and ACP increased in the hTM induced by PPM, and the levels of TNF-? and IL-6 in the hTM induced by PPM increased markedly too. And the induced expression effect of TNF-? and IL-6 is associated with the concentration of PPM, and time for PPM inducing. CONCLUSION: PPM can induce cytokines secretion in hTM,and activate hTM in vitro.

Objective To explore the executive function in patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Methods The evaluation of executive function was conducted in 63 mTBI patients in 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 month after injury and 60 health controls. The executive function was evaluated using Trail Making Test (TMTA), Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-revised (HVLT-R), Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-revised (BVMT-R), Stroop Color Word Tes and Con-tinuous Performance Test (CPT). Results There were significant differences between mTBI patients and controls in TM-TA, HVLT-R, BVMT-R, Stroop Color Word Test and CPT a week following TBI (P<0.05). There were a significant in-crease in scores of TMTA and a significant decrease in HVLT-R, BVMT-R, stroop and CPT-IP at 1, 3 and 6 month compared with 1 week following TBI (P<0.05). There were a significant decrease in TMTA and a significant increase in BVMT-R and stroop 1 month compared with 1 week following TBI (P<0.05). There were a significant increase in stroop, BVMT-R and CPT-IP at 3 month compared with 1 month following TBI (P<0.05). There was a significant increase in stroop and CPT-IP at 6 month compared with 3 month following TBI (P<0.05). Conclusions Patients with mTBI have executive function impairment. The recovery times of different executive function are different in patients with mTBI.

Objective To observe the effects of 131I treatment on circulating granulocyte colonystimulating factor (G-CSF) and leucocyte levels of patients with Graves' disease (GD).Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA),coulter three assortments, and radioimmunoassay were used to test the levels of circulating G-CSF,leucocytes and thyroid hormones of 65 incipient and untreated GD patients, all females, aged 21 -50,43 with normal leucocyte level and 22 with leucopenia before and after 131I treatment.Thirty age-matched healthy female subjects were used as controls. Results Before 131I treatment, the serous G-CSF level of the GD patients with normal leucocyte level was (28.4 ± 11.7)μg/L,significantly higher than that of the control [ ( 18.3 ± 6.98) μg/L,t =2.376,P < 0.05 ].The serous G-CSF level of the GD patients with leucopenia was (40.1 ± 13.8 ) μg/L,significantly higher than that of the patients with normal leucocyte level ( t =2.788,P < 0.01 ) and that of the control ( t =3.672,P<0.01 ).180 d after the initiation of 131 I treatment, the G-CSF level of the patients with normal leucocyte level was (18.9 ± 8.32) μg/L,not significantly different from that of the normal controls, however, the G-CSF level of the GD patients with leucopenia was (25.7 ± 11.5) μg/L,still significantly higher than that of the normal control (t =2.103,P < 0.05).The serous G-CSF level was negatively correlated with the titer of leucocyte ( r =- 0.38,P < 0.05 ),however, not significantly correlated with such clinical parameters,as free triiodothyronine (FT3),free thyroxine (FT4) and thyrotropin-stimulating hormone (TSH).Conclusions Abnormal increment of G-CSF is observed in the GD patients, which may be related to the decrease of leucocyte.Effectively suppressing the auto-immune status in the GD patients,131I treatment is a safe and reliable therapy for GD patients with leucopenia and should be used as early as possible.

OBJECTIVETo explore the protective effect and mechanism of ligustrazine (LGT) and propofol (PRO) on peri-operational liver ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI).
METHODSThirty-six patients scheduled for hepatic surgery were randomly divided into the control group, the LGT group, the PRO group and the LGT + PRO group, 9 patients in each group. Changes of superoxide dismutase (SOD), lipid peroxide (LPO), ratio of thromboxane B2 (TXB2) and 6-keto-prostaglandin F1alpha (6-keto-PGF1alpha), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity, and the ultrastructure of liver tissue were dynamically observed.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, SOD activity was significantly higher, LPO concentration, TXB2/6-keto-PGF1alpha ratio and ALT value were significantly lower (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01) in the LGT group, the PRO group and the LGT + PRO group during HIRI, with the abnormal changes of hepatic ultrastructure 25 min after reperfusion significantly alleviated in the three treated group.
CONCLUSIONCombination of ligustrazine and propofol shows protective effect on liver by decreasing oxygen free radical level, reducing lipid peroxidation and adjusting TXA2/PGI2 imbalance after hepatic ischemia-reperfusion in patients undergoing hepatic cancer surgery.
