Chinese Journal of Biochemical Pharmaceutics 2015;35(10):90-92
Objective To investigate the effect of glutamine on the serum carcino embryonie antigen (CEA) , alpha fetal protein (AFP) and T cell immune function in postoperative patients with gastric cancer. Methods 52 postoperative patients with gastric cancer from Yiwu Central Hospital were selected and randomly divided into control group and experimenal group, 26 cases in each group. The control group received routine nutritional therapy, and experimental group received alanyl -glutamine injection on the basis of control group. The serum nutritional parameters, CEA, AFP, CD4 +T, CD8 +T levels were compared post-treatment.Results Compared with control group post-treatment, the serum albumin (ALB) and pre-albumin (PA) levels were higher (P<0.05), the CEA and AFP levels were lower (P<0.05),the serum levels of CD4 +T and CD4 +T/CD8 +T were higher (P<0.05),CD8 +T level were lower (P<0.05).Conclusion Glutamine could significantly improve the clinical symptoms of patients with gastric cancer after surgery, and it is speculated that the mechanism may be the increase of serum ALB, PA levels, the decrease of CEA, AFP levels and the improvement of immune function.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2013;19(9):885-886
Objective To investigate the effects of house modification on quality of life and activities of daily living of discharged patients with spinal cord injury. Methods 65 patients with spinal cord injury were followed up. Among them, 31 patients accepted house modification (observation group), and 34 did not (control group). Both groups accepted routinely rehabilitation direction after discharge. They were assessed with Barthel index and World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Form (WHO QOL-BRIEF) 1 and 3 months after discharge. Results The score of QOL and BI improved more in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion House modification can improve the quality of life and activities of daily living for patients with spinal cord injury.

Journal of Leukemia & Lymphoma 2016;25(12):705-708
Histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi) is a novel antineoplastic agent emerging in recent years. The advent of HDACi has provided new options for the treatment of malignant tumors, parasitic and inflammatory diseases. HDACi, as single agent or in combination with other drugs, has a considerable prospect in the treatment of hematological malignancies. The use of HDACi in the treatment of hematological malignancies will be summarized in this paper based on the reports in the 58th ASH Annual Meeting.

Objective To evaluate the effect of leptin on K17 expression in HaCaT human keratinocytes. Methods Some cultured HaCaT cells were treated with leptin (100 ng/ml) or remained untreated for 24 hours followed by the quantification of K17 mRNA expression by real-time PCR and detection of K17 protein expression by Western blot and immunofluorescence staining. To investigate the action mechanism of leptin, some cultured HaCaT cells were divided into several groups to be treated with leptin (100 ng/ml) alone,Piceatannol (an inhibitor of the STAT3 pathway) + leptin (100 ng/ml),PD-98059 (an inhibitor of the Erk1/2 pathway) + leptin (100 ng/ml),respectively for 24 hours, with the cells receiving no treatment as the negative control.Subsequently, the mRNA and protein expressions of K17 were measured by the above methods.Statistical analysis was done by the two-sample ttest. Results The mRNA expression of K17 was significantly higher in HaCaT cells treated with leptin alone than in those remaining untreated (3.086 7 ± 0.186 1 vs.1.000 0 ± 0.000 0,P < 0.01),but significantly downregulated in HaCaT cells treated with Piceatannol + leptin and those with PD-98059 + leptin compared with those treated leptin alone (0.674 1 ± 0.060 0 and 0.855 0 ± 0.390 3 vs.2.242 7 ± 0.188 7,both P < 0.01).The results of Western blot and immunofluorescence staining were in agreement with those of real-time PCR.Conclusions Leptin can induce K17 expression in HaCaT cells, likely by activating the STAT3 and Erk1/2 signaling pathways.

AIM: To investigate the effects of Scutellaria barbata flavonoids (SBF) on neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) aggregation, tau protein phosphorylation and the regulated mechanism of glycogen synthase kinase (GSK) 3βand protein phosphatase (PP) 2A in the rats induced by amyloid βprotein 25-35 (Aβ25-35) in combination with AlCl3 and re-combinant human transforming growth factor ( RHTGF)-β1( composited Aβ) .METHODS:The male SD rats were used to establish the simulated Alzheimer disease ( AD) model by intracerebroventricular injection of composited Aβ.The Morris water maze was applied for screening the successful model rats with learning and memory deficits .The successful model rats were daily and orally administrated with SBF at doses of 35, 70 and 140 mg/kg or positive control drug Ginkgo biloba leaves flavonoids ( GLF) at 140 mg/kg for 37 d.The silver nitrate staining was used to determine the cortical NFT .The protein levels of total tau, phosphorylated protein of tau at Ser199 and Ser214 sites, GSK3βand PP2A in hippocampus and cortex were determined by Western blot .The mRNA expression of GSK3βand PP2A in the hippocampus and cortex was detected by RT-PCR.RESULTS:Compared with sham group , the cell number of positive NFT with silver nitrate staining in model rat cerebral cortex was significantly increased .The protein levels of phosphorylated tau protein at Ser 199 and Ser214 sites, GSK3βin the hippocampus and cerebral cortex in the model rats dramatically elevated , and PP2A was marked decreased as compared with the sham group rats.Meanwhile, the mRNA expression of GSK-3βsignificantly increased but PP2A was de-creased.However, these above abnormalities were differently attenuated by treating with SBF at different doses or GLF at 140 mg/kg for 37 d.CONCLUSION: SBF suppresses the NFT aggregation by inhibition of the regulatory functions of GSK-3βand PP2A, thus reducing the phosphorylation of tau protein .

Four qi theory is an important part of property theory of traditional Chinese medicine. Current researches mainly focus on two aspects of cold and heat properties, which are not only important elements of treating diseases, but also are factors of causing adverse reaction. In this article, through the study on the toxicity mechanism of cold and hot properties, authors put forward to the control measures of toxic and side effects of traditional Chinese medicine with cold and hot properties, and pointed out that the importance of controlling toxicity of traditional Chinese medicine with cold and hot properties lies in the modernization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.

The paper is to report the establishment of a method for the determination of multi-residue organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Fifty-six pesticides were extracted by high-speed homogenization, and then purified through gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges. The residues were simultaneously identified and quantified by GC-ECD equipped with dual tower, dual column and two micro-ECD detectors. The analytical performance was demonstrated by the analysis of 3 TCMs samples' extracts, spiked at three concentration levels for each pesticide. In general, the recoveries ranging from 70% to 110%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) better than 15%, were obtained. The limit of detection (LOD) for most of the targeted pesticides tested was below 0.01 mg kg(-1). The method had good extraction efficiency, purification effect and good reproducibility, which could be applied to the determination of organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticide residues in the routine analysis of TCMs.
