2.INFLUENCE OF THE EXERCISE INTERVENTION ON PHYSICAL FUNCTION IN THE COMMUNITY-DWELLING INDEPENDENT ELDERLY WITH KNEE JOINT PAIN

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the exercise program for Osteoarthritis of the knee (knee OA) which American Geriatrics Society Panel on Exercise and Osteoarthritis (AGS) recommends on physical function in Japanese independent elderly with knee joint pain.Methods: Subjects of this study were 36 (7 males : aged 74.7±5.1 years, 29 females : aged 72.3±4.6 years) community-dwelling independent elderly with knee joint pain who voluntary participated in our exercise program. The program consisted of massage around knee, flexibility exercises in knee and ankle joints, and leg muscle development exercises. They performed these exercises twelve times for a month at regular intervals. Physical function were evaluated by the muscle strength during knee extension and flexion, the range of motion of knee joint and the center of pressure during upright standing. There were three times measurements at one month before starting of the program (the 1 st), immediately before beginning of the program (the 2 nd), and just after ending of the program (the 3 rd). Difference between change in measurement values during the observation period (subtract the 1 st from the 2 nd ; Δ1) and that during intervention period (subtract the 2 nd from the 3 rd ; Δ2) were analyzed by Students't-test.Results and Conclusion: There was significant difference between Δ1 (0.01±0.05 kg/wt) and Δ2 (0.04±0.05 kg/wt) on maximal muscle strength during knee extension. This result suggested that the exercise program recommended by AGS was improved the leg muscle strength in Japanese elderly with knee joint pain. However the effects of the exercise intervention were not clarified on the other physical function. As for the reasons it seems to affect the initial level of joint pain and physical function in the subjects. Therefore, reexamination of this point with a greater number of samples which the worse level of knee joint pain is needed in the future.
4.Study on the Effects of Urbanization on Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Child Care: Based on a Survey on Mothers in Rural Areas in the Suburbs of the Capital of Nepal

Objectives
The present study aimed to elucidate issues in maternal and child health in suburban areas by comparing the effects of increases in population, economic power, and amount of information on health behaviors among mothers such as pregnancy, childbirth, and child care in village A in the suburbs of Kathmandu between 2001 and 2006.
Methods
We conducted an interview survey on mothers of children aged 0-12month in village one in Lalitpur district in Nepal. Data from 2001 and 2006 were compared for the educated group, non-educated group, and all subjects.
Results
The number of mothers in ethnic minorities increased in 2006. The most commonly used facility for pregnancy examinations, delivery, and child illnesses was hospitals, and their use tended to increase from 2001 to 2006 for each type of visit. In addition, the cost of pregnancy examination and delivery increased approximately 7-and 2-fold, respectively. Kaup index increased by one point for the condition of child development. Prevalence of general infections among children decreased.
Conclusion
Subjects were polarized into the middle class, which included individuals who had increased income by working as migrants abroad, and an economically disadvantaged group which included individuals who had migrated from rural areas. The active use of health services at hospitals among pregnant women and children was attributed to recognition of the safety and comfort of hospitals as well as the consumer culture resulting from growth of the middle class. The economically disadvantaged group was considered to be at high risk with regard to maternal and child health, and was thus thought to require affordable and accessible support. Issues in child care appeared to be shifting from “nutritional improvement” and “infection control” to “nutritional balance”.
5.Gender differences in kinematics during landing motion and effect of the prevention program for lower extremity injuries on kinematics in junior basketball players

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury often occurs as a result of knee valgus collapse during landing or pivoting in sports activity. Previous studies reported that the risk of ACL injuries was reduced by jump and balance training, and those training can be effective as the prevention program for the ACL injuries. But those studies often focused on only adult athletes, and there are few studies focused on junior athletes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the pattern of landing movement in junior athletes, and to verify the effect of the prevention program. One-hundred and ten junior basketball players (boys; 61, girls;49, age ranging 12 to 15) were subjected in this study. We measured the knee flexion, valgus angles and jump height during continuous vertical jump. After measuring, they executed a prevention program for 12 weeks. The motion pattern of the knee during jump test were compaired between before and after prevention program. Female athletes showed greater knee valgus angle at initial landing phase and grater maximum knee valgus angle than those of males. As a result of the prevention program, maximum knee valgus angle was significantly decreased in female athletes. The greater angle of knee valgus in female may increase the risk of ACL injuries. Present study suggests that the prevention program is useful for reducing the risk of ACL injury. Increment of jump height in male players after this program might be considered that this training program has also an effect of performance improvement.

Effects of taurine on the functions of the body and metabolism with 3km running upon taking a diet, which is constituted of lowest possible amount of carbohydrate and highest possible amount of fat and protein, were investigated in 25 male and female subjects of age thirties by double blind test method. The results were as follows
1) Taurine administration (T. A.) proved to inhibit the degree of increase in heart rate and increase the maximal degree of pulse pressure in response to 3 km running.
2) T. A. proved to inhibit the degree of increase in serum creatine kinase isozyme MB (CK-MB) activities and CK-MB/CK ratio.
3) T. A. proved to inhibit the decrease of serum total protein values immediately before running and in the following morning. Similar trends in terms of the particuler times were observed, too, in the case of the degree of decrease of serum triglycerides values.
4) T. A. seemed to accelerate the utilization of saturated fatty acids especially.
5) Three kilometer running seemed to increase in serum taurine concentrations from several hours after running to the morning immediately after running.
8.Changes in Saliva Cortisol Levels and Emotional Assessment after Walking Programs in Komono Town, Mie Prefecture

Komono Town is a well-known spa and health resort in Mie Prefecture. Komono Town has been seeking ways to promote the activities of hot spring area and health resources in surrounding areas. As part of these efforts, Komono Town has developed town-walk programs to promote the health of local residents. In this study, focusing on effect of walking on relaxation, we compared levels of stress hormones and emotional scores obtained before and after walking.
After giving their informed consent, adult participated in two walking programs, each for a distance of approximately 7 km. Salivary cortisol levels were measured before and after intervention. In addition, the Mood Check List-Short form. 2 (MCL-S.2) and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to rate emotions before and after intervention.
In both programs, walking tended to lower levels of salivary cortisol than resting. Low levels of cortisol, an adrenocortical hormone released during a state of predominantly sympathetic nervous activity, are thought to reflect mental relaxation; our result implies that the walking program enhanced relaxation in subjects. In addition, both MCL-S.2 and VAS rating showed that the subjects tended to feel better, more relaxed and less anxious after intervention.
These findings suggest that the walking programs are beneficial human body thorough, for example, enhanced relaxation.
10.Changes in Body Temperature and Arterial Blood Flow Rate of 42°C Bathing Comparison of a Hot Spring Plunge Bath and Home Bathtub Bath

【Introduction】One of the effects of the hot spring provides worm temperature. This effect raises temperature, and temperature control function operates and causes increase of the bloodstream. This time, these changes examined the thing by the size of the bathtub and the spring quality of the hot spring. 【Subjects and Methods】The subjects were 10 healthy adult men (mean age: 25.2 years). They bathed for 10 min in bathtubs at 42°C. The enforcement used plunge bath (approximately 1,700 L: simple alkaline hot spring) and home bathtub (approximately 300 L: hot water, 0.1% artificially chlorinated spring). Measurement item of the maximum arterial blood flow rate using the Ultrasonic Rheometer Smart Doppler 45, deep body temperature using the deep body temperature monitor core temperature CM-210, I compared each value 10 min during the bathing, and during a 10-min, 20-min, 30-min resting period after bathing, furthermore, I found the conjugation on each condition resting period after bathing. 【Result】The rise in deep body temperature and maximum arterial blood flow rate showed the result that a hot spring of the plunge bath was more meaningful than the value of the home bathtub after 10 min of bathing. The deep body temperature of the hot spring of the plunge bath significantly rose from bathing 3 min after. In deep body temperature with the resting period after bathing, in the hot spring of the plunge bath, a meaningful rise was maintained in hot water 13 min for population chloride spring 16 min of the home bathtub for 15 min. 【Discussion】In thinks that a population spring let you maintain a temperature rise that it disturbs a drop of the water temperature by abundant quantity of water in the plunge bath that hot spring plunge bath had a bigger deep body temperature rise, maximum arterial blood flow rate than home bathtub, and the deep body temperature rise in the home bathtub was continued.
