Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of general paresis of insane(GPI) and diagnostic value of laboratory and neuroimaging examinations. Methods The clinical data of 2 patients with GPI were analyzed retrospectively and the pertinent literatures were reviewed. Results The main clinical characteristics consisted of insidious onset, progressive dementia, mental disorder and epileptic seizure. These 2 patients were originally misdiagnosed. Both rapid plasma reagin test and treponema gelatin agglutination test in serum and cerebrospinal fluid were positive.Cranial MRI showed diffuse cerebral atrophy. Conclusions The clinical characteristics of GPI are varied and misdiagnosis rate is high at early stage of this disease. The diagnosis of GPI mainly depends on clinical characteristics, serum and cerebrospinal fluid examinations.

Objective To observe the curative effects of Edaravone combined Batroxobin on treating pro-gressive cerebral infarction(PCI).Methods 50 patients with PCI were treated with Edaravone 30 mg intravenous drip twice a day for 14 d.Meanwhile,Batroxobin 10 BU on the first day, subsequently 5 BU intravenous drip, once for next day, total 4 times.European stroke scale(ESS),Barthel index and plasma fibrinogen(Fib) level were tested before and after treatment.Compared with the patients(control group) treated with Batroxobin only. Results The score of ESS in united treatment group on 7th,14th,21th day were obviously higher than those in the control group(all P

Objective To investigate the depression in stroke patients with broca aphasia. Methods Aphasia Depression Rating Scale (ADRS) and Zung's self-rating depression scale (SDS) were applied in patients on the first stroke with broca aphasia (Aphasia group,66 cases). The results were compared with stroke patients without aphasia(control group,66 cases). Results Compared to control group, the incidence of depression in Aphasia group was significantly higher(62.12% vs 25.76%,P

Objective To investigate the association of serum angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)activity and ACE gene polymorphism with vascular dementia(VD)and Alzheimer's disease(AD).Methods Using the polymerase chain reaction(PCR),ACE gene polymorphism was analyzed in 62 patients with VD,39 patients with AD and 50 healthy controls. The ACE activity in 56 patients with VD,33 patients with AD and 46 healthy controls was measured by means of capillary electrophoresis ultraviolet detection. Results The ACE activity showed no significant difference between VD,AD and healthy controls. We did not find any association of ACE gene polymorphism in patients with VD.The frequency of I allele was significantly higher in AD group than that in the controls(P

Objective To study the sequence of learning and memory loss in the rat after hemispheric irradiation. Methods After Sprague Dawly(SD) female rats were anaesthetized with chloral hydrate, their cerebral hemispheres were irradiated with a single dose of 5,15 or 30?Gy by 4?MeV electron. On D3,D7,D30 and D60, the learning and memorizing ability was measured with the Y maze test. Results On D3 and D7, the learning ability of SD rats was impaired most but partly restored in 1 to 2 months. In observation of memory loss, the intensity of cerebral function damage was in direct proportion to the increase of radiation dose. Conclusion The learning and memorizing ability of rats can be damage by hemispheric irradiation with the severity of impairment and possibility of recruitment depending on the dose.
