AIM: To observe the synergetic analgesic effects of low dose of haloperidol, a dopamine antagonist and under-threshold dose of morphine on mice induced by thermal and acetic acid, and to analyze the major mechanism of their synergetic actions. METHODS: To examine the analgesic synergetic effect of haloperidol (0.315 mg/kg, 0.625 mg/kg, 1.25 mg/kg, ip respectively), morphine (3.125 mg/kg, 6.25 mg/kg, 12.5 mg/kg ip, respectively) or combining effect of haloperidol (0.3125 mg/kg) with morphine (3.125 mg/kg) on mice, we compared the change of pain threshold stimulated by thermal, latent period of twisting, the number of times of twisting by acetic acid, and we also estimated the antagonistic effect of d -amphetamine (10 mg/kg) and naloxone (5 mg/kg) on haloperidol and morphine group. RESULTS: Combination of haloperidol with morphine significantly enhanced pain threshold of mice induced by thermal, prolonged latent period of twisting and decreased the number of times of twisting. Naloxone markedly antagonized the combination of analgesic action of haloperidol and morphine and not d -amphetamine. CONCLUSION: Combination of haloperidol with morphine have synergetic analgesic effect and morphine is the dominant factor.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(05):-
This review introduced the anti-tumor effects of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and summarized their possible molecular mechanisms according to recent abroad literatures and our research results. Some evidence showed that the anti-tumor mechanisms of NSAIDs were different in various tumors.NSAIDs decreased the biosynthesis of PGE_2 and regulated the expressions of downstream correlated genes and proteins through restraining abnormal expression of COX-2 in certain neoplasms, which resulted in the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis and proliferation as well as induced apoptosis. But in other cancer cells, NSAIDs, as activators of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ? (PPAR?), induced COX-2 expression, promoted the biosynthesis of cyclopentenone prostaglandins (cyPGs). cyPGs further induced tumor cell apoptosis with PPAR? dependently or PPAR? independently. Since their special mechanisms of anti-proliferation and pro-apoptosis, NSAIDs revealed significant synergistic effects with other anti-tumor treatments.
4.Giant prostatic hyperplasia: a case report and review of the literature.
National Journal of Andrology 2011;17(2):151-155
OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical features, diagnosis and surgical treatment of giant prostatic hyperplasia
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 1 case of GPH, and reviewed the relevant literature published at (GPH). home and abroad.
RESULTSThe patient was 77 years of age. The main clinical features were increased nocturnal urine and gross hematuria. The maximum urinary flow rate was 10 ml/s, the total PSA was 37 pIg/L and the prostate volume was 11 x 10 x 8 cm. Suprapubic prostatectomy was performed successfully, and the removed prostate weighed 450 g. Pathologic examination showed the case to be benign prostatic hyperplasia. The patient was discharged 21 days after surgery, without any obvious complications. We identified 83 cases with the prostate weighing over 200 g in the domestic literature, and 14 cases with the prostate volume exceeding 500 g in the foreign literature, mostly treated by suprapubic prostatectomy and only a few by retropubic prostatectomy.
CONCLUSIONGPH, as a rare entity whose nomenclature is not yet agreed-on, can be diagnosed according to its clinical manifestations and the results of transrectal ultrasonography and prostate CT. Surgical methods most frequently adopted for its treatment include transurethral prostatectomy, transvesical suprapubic prostatectomy, retropubic prostatectomy, and laparoscopic prostatectomy.

Objective To evaluate the accuracy and clinical application of endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in diagnosis of occupying lesions in upper digestive tract and its pe-ripheral areas. Methods The data of 64 patients who underwent EUS-FNA for occupying lesions in upper di-gestive tract, between July 2006 and December 2007, were retrospectively analyzed. Results EUS-FNA was successfully performed on 62 patients, with a success rate of 96.88%. The overall diagnostic accuracy, sensi-tivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of EUS-FNA for occupying lesions in upper digestive tract and its peripheral areas were 88.71%, 86.54%, 100.00%, 100.00%, and 58.82%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the foei larger and smaller than 3cm (P > 0.05), re-garding the diagnostic accuracy and average puncture numbers. Diagnostic accuracy of those with real-time cy-tolngical evaluation was significantly higher than those without (P=0.029), and the puncture numbers were less (P=0.001). Among the total 99 punctures, the positive diagnostic accuracy of those with 5ml negative pressure suction was significantly higher than those of 10 ml (P = 0.044). Conclusion EUS-FNA is a safe and applicable approach to diagnosis of occupying lesions in upper digestive tract and its peripheral areas with higher diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value. Moreover, the real-time cyto-logical evaluation and adequate negative pressure might facilitate the diagnosis accuracy.

Objective To investigate the effect of Yanghe decoction serum on the proliferation of breast cancer stem cells HMLER90hi and its mechanism. Methods Twenty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into low, medium and high dose groups containing drug serum and control group, in order to prepare the Yanghe decoction serum and blank serum. After 24 hours of drug intervention, the effects of each group on the proliferation of HMLER90hi cells at 24 h,48 h,and 72 h were detected by MTT assay. The expression of EphA4 and p50 mRNA in each group were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. Results Compared with the blank control group, the cell proliferation activity of each dose group of Yanghe decoction significantly decreased at 24 h (0.818 ± 0.061, 0.706 ± 0.073, 0.587 ± 0.052 vs. 0.928 ± 0.075), 48h (0.760 ± 0.047, 0.638 ± 0.056, 0.510 ± 0.059 vs. 0.973 ± 0.095), and 72 h (0.672 ± 0.102, 0.508 ± 0.092, 0.448 ± 0.048vs.1.023 ± 0.099) (P<0.05 orP<0.01), respectively. After 24 h of drug intervention, compared with the control group, the expression of EphA4 mRNA (0.54 ± 0.07, 0.54 ± 0.07, 0.33 ± 0.04 vs.0.68 ± 0.09) significantly decreased, and p50 mRNA (0.69 ± 0.10, 0.54 ± 0.08, 0.41 ± 0.06vs. 0.85 ± 0.13) significantly decreased in each dose group of Yanghe decoction (P<0.05 orP<0.01).ConclusionsTheYanghe decoction can inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer stem cell HMLER90hi,and its mechanism may be related to its inhibition of the conduction of the juxtacrine pathway of monocyte macrophage.
