Objective To study the diagnosis and treatment of renal tuberculosis (TB). Methods A retrospective study was made on 281 cases. Results Irritation symptoms, hematuria and lumbodynia were the most common symptoms. The positive result of acid-fast stains, urinary TB-PCR, PPD-IgG were 44.5%, 44.1% and 62.5% respectively. The diagnostic accuracy of urography, CT and B-type ultrasonography were 69.1%, 84.3% and 28.3%.105 of the 128 cases have been cured on medicine ( INH + RFP + PZA for 6~8 months ). Nephro-ureterectomy was performed for 145 out of 153 cases (94.8%). Conclusions Combined use of different means of diagnostic technique would help to assess the diagnosis of renal TB especially in atypical cases.IVU is still the first choice for diagnosis and CT scan is helpful.INH,REP and PZA used combinedly yiels satisfactory outcome for early cases. When nephro-ureterectomy is indicated, the involved ureter should be excised as much as possible.

Objective To investigate the effect of isoflurane on the spatial learning and memory in aged mice, and whether this is associated with the changes of Caspase-3 expression and apoptosis in brain. Methods Twenty-four CO57BL/6 aged mice(16 months)were randomly divided into isoflurane treatment group(Iso Group,n=12) and sham control group (Con Group,n=12).Mice in Iso group were exposed to 1% isoflurane in carrying gas of 30% oxygen, balance nitrogen in a warmed, humidified chamber for4 h per day for2 days. For Con group, animals were treated at the same condition with only carrying gas. After anesthetic exposures, behavioral testing was performed using the Morris water maze(MWM),and then changes of Caspase-3 expression and apoptosis in hippocampus CAI,dentate gyrus(DG) and cortex(CX) in brain were determined by using immunofluorecence staining and TUNEL staining. Results In hidden-platform training of MWM,the mean escape latency to platform showed no significant difference between the two groups (F=0.007,P=1.235),but the mice in Iso group showed obviously impaired retention of memory by spending more percentage of time swimming in the probe quadrant as compared to the control animals in the probe test((34.5±5.0)%vs(45.1±4.9)%.P<0.01).There was no significant difference in average swimming speed during the MWM testing trials between the two groups (F=1.537,P=0.241).A few Caspase-3 and apoptosis positive cells were found in hippocampus Cal,DG and CX regious, while no difference was found in the density of positive cells between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion 1% isoflurane repeatedly exposure significantly impaires the spatial reference memory in aged mouses, however does not significantly change the expression of easpase-3 and apoptosis in brain.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanism of Okam on asthmatic mice. Methods The mice model of asthma was established with the egg albumen sensitization, and were treated with low and large doses of Okam for four weeks. The pathological changes of lung tissues were observed.Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the contents of matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor Metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in the lung tissues. Results Gasp and inflammation in the lung tissues were significantly relieved in the test groups than that in the model group.MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP- 9/TIMP-1 ratios were significantly lowered in the test group than that in the model group. Conclusion The marine drug of Okam shows therapeutic effects on mice with asthma, which may be the result of reduced contents of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in the lung tissues and the correction of the imbalanced MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio.Okam is likely to be a new choice for the treatment of asthma.

Objective:To investigate the effects of ursolic acid (UA) on the proliferation and differentiation of osteoclasts (OC), and to explore its role in orthodontic force-induced root resorption and its relationship with OC.Methods:The mononuclear / macrophage cells RAW264.7 were induced to the OC.Tacrolimus acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining and bone resorption lacunae observation were used to identify the induction.CCK-8 method was used to select the appropriate concentration of UA for RAW264.7 cell-free biotoxicity and to observe its effect on the proliferation and differentiation of RAW264.7.In experimental groups, UA with gradient concentrations (1.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,20.0and 40.0 μmol·L-1)were added.UA was not added in control group. Results:The TRAP staining and bone resorption lacunae observation showed that after the RAW264.7 cells were induced for 5 d, the TRAP staining positive cells were found;the resorption lacunae were rounded, and oval, etc,the bottom wall was coarser, and the boundary was clear, which indicated that the RAW264.7 cells were successfully differentiated into the osteoclasts. The CCK-8 detection results showed that high concentration of UA (> 10.0 μmol·L-1) significantly inhibited the proliferation of OC;the appropriate concentration of UA (5.0 μmol·L-1) was in the biological safety concentration range and could inhibit the OC proliferation;low concentration of UA (<2.5 μmol·L-1) had no effect. Conclusion:RANKL can induce the differentiation and maturation of RAW264.7 cells.UA is correlated with the proliferation and differentiation of OC;UA has inhibitory effect on OC at the appropriate concentration (5.0 μmol·L-1) in a time-dependent manner.
