Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) admitted on Ramadan or no-Ramadan.Methods We analyzed HuiNation patients' admissions of UGIB in Ningxia Medical University General Hospital from 2000 to 2013 (a total of 1192 admissions).Differences in etiological, transfusion undergo early esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and hospital stays between Hui-Nation patients on Ramadan. Results Ramadan admissions were associated with significantly higher hemorrhage rates than no-Ramadan admissions among Hui-Nation patients.Peptic ulcer (56%),esophageal varices (17%) and gastric erosive (12%) were the main reason of UGIB in Ramadan.Ramadan admissions were associated with significantly blood transfusion, less likely to undergo early EGD,mortality and long length of stay (p < 0.05).Conclusions Ramadan admission of UGIH was higher than no-Ramadan.Doctor should pay more attention to this phenomenon.

Objective To establish a Chinese hamster model of babesia infection, to find the changing pattern of organs and biochemical parameters in Chinese hamster infected with Babesia, and to promote the detection and treatment of babesiosis. Methods Healthy 5-week old Chinese hamsters were infected by intraperitoneal injection of blood containing Babesia.Blood samples were collected at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 23, 30, and 37 days after infection from 5 hamsters at each time point.Blood smears were prepared to detect the parasites using Giemsa staining.ELISA assay was employed to test the IL-2 concentration. The blood biochemical indexes were detected using an automatic biochemical analyzer.DNA was extracted from the whole blood and REAL-TIME RCR was performed to determine the reproduction of Babesia.Aftert the animals were sacrificed, the heart, lung, spleen, liver, and kidney were taken to analyze the changes of organ coefficients. Results The highest level of Babesia in the hamsters occurred on day 4 after the Babesia injection, and then showing a decreasing tendency. However, there was a transient increase on the 12th day after infection. The liver and spleen displayed most extensive response to the infection showing hepatomegaly and splenomegaly, but the variation of heart and kidneys coefficients was within the norm. There were prominent changes of blood cells, especially leucocytes, with two peaks at day 10 and 23 after the Babesia infection. The peak changes of blood biochemical indexes occurred at day 12 after infection. The concentration of serum IL-2 reached a peak on the 10th day after infection. Conclusions The Chinese hamsters display typical characteristics of tick-borne diseases such as hepatomegaly and splenomegaly. The immunological system is activated along with the infection and reaches a highest stage in the second week.Afterwards the Babesia can live in the hamster body for a long period of time. The results of this study provide useful information supporting further studies on the detection, treatment and prevention of Babesiosis.

Objective To establish an eukaryotic vector of monkey B virus glycoprotein D gene and analyze the expression of gD gene in human embryonic kidney 293T cells.Method First, the protein of monkey B virus glycoprotein D was obtained by gene synthesis. The gene fragments were digested with Pst I and Not I, and ligated to pEGPF-N3. Then, the recombinant plasmid pEGPF-N3-GD was transfected into 293T cells. The expression of gD protein in the cells was detected by Western blot, and the expression localization was investigated using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Results The recombinant plasmid pEGPF-N3 carrying gD gene was successfully constructed, and normally expressed in the 293T cells. Conclusions Glycoprotein D of monkey B virus is expressed successfully in the 293T cells and the protein is located on the cell surface. It may be useful for the preparation of specific recombinant antigen to the glycoprotein D of monkey B virus on cell surface, and can be also used for preparation of antigen slide for detection of monkey B virus.

Objective To study the prevalence and genotypes of rotavirus (RV) among children,< 5 years old hospitalized with viral diarrhea in Tianjin. Methods Stool specimens were collected from hospitalized diarrhea children in Tianjin children's hospital between May 2008 and April 2009. Detection of rotavirus was employed by Colloidal Gold Device. The detected positives were inoculated to MA-104 cells. The total RNA of virus was extracted after CPE which was caused by rotavirus were observed, The VP7 serotypes were determined by using RT-PCR to amplify the VP7 gene and sequencing the RT-PCR products. The clinical data for each patient were also collected. Results Among 837 specimens, the RV antigen positive rate was 26. 3% (220/837). Among all the children with rotavirus diarrhea, 90. 5% (199/220)were < 2 years old. The prevalence of rotavirus diarrhea in children peaked during Oct. 2008 through Apr.2009. Of the 208 rotavirus positive specimens, 95 were successfully identified by RT-PCR Thirty-five positive strains of RV were sequenced, and the sequencing results showed that 32 positive strains were belonged to rotavirus G1 type, 2 positive strains were belonged to rotavirus G3 type and 1 positive strain were belonged to rotavirus C9 type. Conclusion RV was the dominant etiological agent for infantile diarrhea infection in Tianjin, and the predominant serotype was G1.

Objective To study the pathogenic prevalence and genotypes of astrovirus among children under 5 years old hospitalized with diarrhea in Tianjin. Methods A total 837 stool specimens were collected from children with diarrhea hospitalized in Tianjin children's hospital from May 2008 to April 2009. Astrovirus antigens were detected using ELISA and the postive specimens were inoculated in CaCo-2cells. After the CPE caused by virus were observed, the total RNA of virus was extracted, then the genomc fragments of the strains were amplified by using RT-PCR and confirmed by sequencing of the RT-PCR products. Detection of rotavirus was employed by Colloidal Gold Device. Results Astrovirus antigen was found positive in 3.0% of the patients. The coinfection rate of astrovirus and rotavirus was 0. 7% (6/837).Ninety-six persent of children with astrovirus diarrhea were younger than 2 years of age, Forty-eight persent of children with astrovirus diarrhea were younger than 6 months. The astrovirus infections occurred mainly between August 2008 and April 2009. Of the 21 astrovirus positive specimens, 11 cases were successfully identified by RT-PCR and they were all serotype 1. Conclusion Astrovirus is a major cause of nonbacterical diarrhea between 2008 and 2009 in Tianjin, and the predominant serotype is type 1.
