Background Rabbits are commonly used as animal models for the evaluation of drugs and surgery to lower intraocular pressure (IOP).The accuracy of IOP measurement is therefore critical in the analysis of data and subsequent extrapolation to humans.An accurate method to measure rabbit IOP is intracameral manometry,but it is an invasive way.Schi(o)tz,Perkins and Rebound were often used in clinic.However,their accuracy in measuring rabbit IOP in experimental study is unclear.Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of IOP measured by Schi(o)tz tonometer,Perkins tonometer and Rebound tonometer relative to intracameral manometry in New Zealand white rabbits.Methods The central corneal thickness (CCT),corneal curvature (CC),axial length (AL),anterior chamber depth (ACD),lens thickness (LT) and scleral thickness (ST) were respectively measured in 8 eyes of 8 healthy New Zealand white rabbits with lenstar900 and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).The actual IOP was measured with a 24G needle inserted the anterior chamber and connected to a pressure transducer under the general anesthesia,the IOP gradient was set with a 24G needle inserting the vitreous cavity and connecting to a container with balanced salt solution(BSS).Then,comparative measurements at the same pressures were performed with three types of tonometers.The IOP values from Schi(o)tz tonometer,Perkins tonometer and Rebound tonometer were calibrated based on actual IOP from intracameral manometry and eyeball physiological parameters by multiple regression equation.Results The mean of CCT,CC,AL,ACD,LT and ST was (338.96 ±21.52) μm,(51.68±1.66) D,(14.63±0.19) mm,(2.22±0.04) mm,(6.15±0.10) mm and (339.80±47.41) μm.Compared with the intracameral manometry value (IMV),the error range was (17.08± 11.22) mmHg in the Schi(o)tz tonometer value (STV),(25.81±12.43) mmHg in the Perkins tonometer value (PTV) and (22.50±11.47) mmHg in the Rebound tonometer value (RTV),with significant differences between them (t =10.54,14.39,13.59,all at P＜ 0.05).Compared with IMV,the 95％ limits of agreement of three portable tonometer values is larger,and three portable tonometer values had the greater measurement error with elevated IOP gradient.The regression equations was IOP =141.015 + 1.570 × STV + 0.122 × CCT-3.480 × CC between actual IOP and STV (R =0.92,P =0.00),IOP =-33.323+1.914×PTV+0.133×CCT between actual IOP and PTV(R =0.88,P=0.00),IOP=160.395+1.866×RTV+ 0.201×CCT+34.554×LT-2.649×CC+0.063×ST between actual IOP and RTV (R=0.95,P=0.00).Conclusions The physiological parameters of rabbit eyeball are obviously different from human.The STV,PTV and RTV have a great measuring error in comparson with actual IOP,and therefore it is necessary to correct STV,PTV and RTV based on the ocular physiology parameters in experimental study.

Objective To explore the effect of evidence-based nursing on improving the compliance of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with noninvasive positive pressure ventilation. Methods Forty-five patients hospitalized in the first half of the year were assigned as control group and another 45 patients hospitalized in the second half of the year were as experiment group. The control group was treated with traditional nursing methods. In the experiment group, a nursing panel was set up to analyze the causes of noncompliance of COPD patients with noninvasive positive pressure ventilation and gave care to the patients based on the analyses. The two groups were compared in terms of adverse reactions and the compliance with treatment. Result The rates of compliance with treatment and adverse reactions such as fear and anxiety , the man-machine confrontation and flatulence in the experiment group were significantly lower than those of the control group obviously (P<0.05). Conclusion The evidence-based nursing can reduce the incidence of adverse reactions , and enhance the compliance of COPD patients with noninvasive positive pressure ventilation effectively.

OBJECTIVEThis study aimed to synthesize a novel nano-antibacterial inorganic filler that contains a quaternary ammonium salt with long chain alkyl and to report the antibacterial property of dental resin composites.

METHODSA novel nano-antibacterial inorganic filler that contains a quaternary ammonium salt with long chain alkyl was synthesized based on previous research. The antibacterial property of the filler was measured. The surface of the novel nano-antibacterial inorganic filler was modified by a coupling agent to achieve a good interfacial bonding between the filler and the resin matrix. Infrared spectrum analysis was carried out. The modified novel nano-antibacterial inorganic fillers were then incorporated into the dental resin matrix. The dispersion of the fillers was observed and compared with those incorporated into Tetric N-Ceram, a commercial resin composite, under a scanning electron microscope. Streptococcus mutans was used in testing the antibacterial property of the dental resin composites.

RESULTSA quaternary ammonium salt with a long chain alkyl was successfully grafted onto the surface of nano-silica particles. The novel nano-antibacterial inorganic filler that contains quaternary ammonium salt with a long chain alkyl showed stronger antibacterial efficacy than the antibacterial inorganic filler that contains quaternary ammonium salt with a short chain alkyl. The modified novel antibacterial inorganic fillers displayed a homogeneous dispersion in the resin composite bulk and combined closely with the resin matrix, similar to the Tetric N-Ceram. The resin composites that contain novel antibacterial inorganic fillers showed stronger antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans compared with the control group.

CONCLUSIONThe novel nano-antibacterial inorganic filler that contains a quaternary ammonium salt with long chain alkyl showed a strong antibacterial property. It also exhibited good compatibility with the dental resin matrix after undergoing coupling treatment.

BACKGROUND: Having breakfast everyday is a behavior promoting health recommended WHO, while it is easy to be ignored.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the breakfast habits of pupils in Beijing and Shanghai so as to provide a scientific basis for further studying the problems in having breakfast among the pupils, drafting and developing "nutritious breakfast program for students".DESIGN: Stratified and cluster sampling and investigation study were used based on the pupils.SETTING: Institute of health for child of two universities.SUBJECTS: A total of 8688 six to eleven years old Beijing and Shanghai pupils were involved from March 2002 to June 2002. Among them 4692 pupils came from Beijing. There were 4637 valid questionnaires, 2386 of which were from male pupils and 2251 from female pupiIs. Among the total subjects, there were 4300 Shanghai pupils, and 4051 questionnaires were valid, of which 2031 were from the male pupils and 2020 from female students.METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted. The content of the questionnaire included the general conditions of the family, dietary preferences, food for breakfast, consumption of the milk food and so on.RESULTS: The results showed that about 25.8% boys and 21.6% girls in Beijing did not eat breakfast regularly; similarly, the percentage was about 11.4% for boys and 13.3% for girls in Shanghai. The reasons for not having breakfast included the following: They had no appetite, or had no enough time for it, or the parents were too busy to prepare in the mornings. For those of them who eat breakfasts, the nutrients of their breakfast usually were not adequate. 55% of the students had their breakfast prepared by their mothers. As for the eating sites, students mainly ate at home; the next was having it on the way to school or eating at the roadside luncheonettes. The cost of breakfast was 2 - 3 yuan. The breakfast behaviors of the pupils were closely related with the behaviors of their mothers( r = 0. 4333, P < 0.01 ).CONCLUSION: It is suggested that quality of breakfast of the pupils need to be improved. The behaviors of the parents influence their children in breakfast habits.

Objective To study the clinical efficacy of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) in the treatment of sacrococcygeal decubitus ulcers grade Ⅲ with direct polymerizing suture after appling rhEGF to reinforce wound bed preparation (WBP). Methods From January 2007 to October 2009, 60 patients with sacrococcygeal decubitus ulcers Grade Ⅲ, were divided into control group and treatment group. The ulcer size was 3 cm × 4 cm to 10 cm × 12 cm and all ulcers were infected for 15-70 d. Treatment group received traditional dressing change and appling rhEGF to reinforce wound bed preparation. Control group received traditional dressing change only. The operative technique that we used in two groups was direct polymerizing suture. Cure rate of stage Ⅰ and complication morbidities were analyzed. Results Cure rate of stage Ⅰ was 87% in treatment group and 70% in control group. Complication morbidities were 13% in treatment group and 30% in control group. The difference between these two groups was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion Appling rhEGF to reinforce wound bed preparation before operation could make subsequent treatment more effective and improve the cure ratio of operation with decreasing complications and morbidities. And more, dissecting under fascia possesses the advantages of easiness to perform and rich blood supply.The method of appling rhEGF with direct polymerizing suture is a simple, high efficient approach for the first repairment of sacrococcygeal decubitus ulcers grade Ⅲ, especially desirable for the elderly.

Objective To observe the protective effect of N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) on the injury of irradiation-in-duced bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs), and explore the possible mechanism. Methods There were 3 groups in the study:control group, irradiation group (doses of irradiation were 1 Gy and 4 Gy) and irradiation with NAC group (NAC was cocultured with BMMNCs half hour before irradiation). The 2×106/mL BMMNCs and the RPMI-1640 medium or 2×10-5 mol/L NAC were added into the 2 mL EP tubes according to the different requirement of groups. The tubes were then cul-tured in the 37℃CO2 incubator for 30 min and irradiated with 1 Gy and 4 Gy. The viability of BMMNCs was measured by bioluminescence. The level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was measured by DCFH-DA, and the ability of colony-forming units was detected by CFU-GM. Results After 4 Gy irradiation exposure, the cell viability of BMMNCs was significantly lower in irradiation group (284 296.7±16 541.2) than that of control group (848 586.7±61 404.4). After 1 Gy irradiation expo-sure, the level of ROS was higher in irradiation group (6 750.0±103.5) than that of control group (5 710.7±56.2). The number of colony-forming units per 105 cells after irradiation exposure was (626.7±51.3), which was significantly lower than that of control group (986.7±100.7). Compared to irradiation group, the cell viability of BMMNCs increased to (352 770.0±23 466.1) in irradiation with NAC group. The level of ROS decreased to (5 430.0±61.0), and the number of colony-forming units per 105 cells increased to (773.3 ± 49.3). Conclusion NAC has protective effect on irradiation-induced injury in BMMNCs, which may be related with the decreased level of ROS. NAC can play the role of positive control for the following work.

Objective To inspect the correlation of synthetic effect criteria to sensitivity,reliability of late stage lung cancer curative effect verdict and median survival time. Method Using size change of tumor,symptom change related to tumor,Karnofsky score,body weight etc.as synthetic effect criteria and nstituting clinical synthetic effect criteria,to assess the curative effect of late stage lung cancer patients who received different treatment in department of tumor of Xiyuan Hospital between March 1997 and March 2000, to analysis medium survival time, and being compared with RR of tumor.Result 52 patients entered this experiment, in which 42 patients were assessable (follow up), 13 patients were effective(30.95％ ),17 were patients stable(40.48％ ),12 patients deteriorated (28.57％ ).The result of tumor objective remission rate: CR is 0,PR is 16.67％ (7 patients),NC is 64.29％ (27 patients) and PD is 19.05％ (8 patients).There was apparent difference between two effect criteria(P< 0.05).The mean survival time of this group is (9.3± 1.6)months,median survival time is 10.5 months(2～ 8months),survival rate of one year is 33.33％ (14 patients).In the patients who live longer than median survival time, most of them survive associated with tumor existence who are in NC of tumor objective remission rate, but also in the effective column of synthetic effect criteria. Compared with tumor objective remission rate,the synthetic effect criteria have more apparent correlation to survival time. Conclusion In the assessment of late stage lung cancer,synthetic effect criteria has better sensitivity and reliability,and emphasize survival quality,at same time it reflect the reaction of tumor and host to treatment,it reflect prognosis of tumor preferably and have better correlation to the survival time. It can be used as clinical effect criteria of late stage lung cancer after further consummation.

369 patients with hypertension living in Xietu community were randomized into 2 groups:intervention group receiving the group-interference-management and control group receiving routine hypertension management services.We found that patients in the intervention group had better self-management behaviors,self-efficacy and health status in comparison with the control group (P＜0.05).The systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group decreased more remarkably than that in the control group (P＜0.05).Our result suggested that the community-based hypertension group-interference-management model is more effective to control hypertension than the routine hypertension management services.

Objective To investigate the effect of implementation of hand hygiene(HH)activities on HH compliance among health care workers(HCWs).Methods In May-December 2013,a series of HH intervention measures in a hospital were implemented,compliance to HH among all clinical and laboratory HCWs in April-December 2013 (before and after in-tervention)were surveyed and compared.Results After implementing HH activities,HH compliance rate of HCWs in-creased from 39.82% before intervention to 80.77% after intervention,HH compliance rates of doctors,nurses and clean-ing staff increased from 41.09%,41.30% and 34.33% before intervention to 83.87%,91.89%,and 59.54% after inter-vention respectively,the differences between before and after intervention were all statistically significant (all P <0.001). Except intensive care unit,HH compliance rates of HCWs in departments of surgery,internal medicine,and radiotherapy were all higher than pre-intervention(all P <0.001).Compliance to five indications for HH among HCWs after interven-tion were all higher than pre-intervention(all P <0.001 ),HH compliance rate before touching a patient increased from 23.88% to 73.37%,before clean/aseptic procedure increased from 58.65% to 94.23%.Conclusion Through the imple-mentation and supervision of HH activities,both the awareness and compliance of HH among HCWs have been significant-ly improved,good HH habit is gradually developed.
