Objective To explore the pulsed wave Doppler (PWD) manifestations of acute experimental incomplete testicular torsion. Methods Eight healthy dogs were surgically modeled to obtain unilateral acute testis torsion from 180° to 630°, respectively. The peak systole velocity (PSV) and resistance index (RI) of intratesticular artery, capsular artery and arteria spermatica interna were measured with PWD before torsion, 2 h, 4 h and 6 h after torsion. Testes were examined pathologically after the experiment. Results PSV and RI of capsular artery and intratesticular artery decreased gradually with the extension of torsional time (P<0.05). PSV and RI of superior, torsional and inferior segments of arteria spermatica interna varied greatly and showed no strong regularity (P>0.05) . The pathological results of testes showed no distinct changes or just mild interstitial hyperemia and edema. Conclusion The decrease of PSV and RI of capsular artery and intratesticular artery, especially RI have referential value in the judgement of acute experimental incomplete testicular torsion, whereas changes of PSV and RI of superior, torsional and inferior segments of arteria spermatica interna are not reliable.

Objective To investigate the effects of infrasound at different frequencies on the pathological morphology of mouse testes and to explore the possible involvement of β-cateinin in the mechanism of injury. MethodsSixty adult BALB/C mice were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group of 6 mice were the controls without infrasound exposure. The other group with 54 mice was evenly divided into 3 subgroups of 18 exposed to 130 dB infrasound at 4 Hz,8 Hz or 20 Hz for 2 hours daily. The pathological morphology of the mice's testes was observed 3,9 and 21 h after exposure.Immunohistochemical staining was used to examine β-catenin expression 3 h after exposure.ResultsMarked damage was observed in the morphology of the testicular cells of rats in the 8 Hz group.Cell denaturation was found in germinal cells. The cell structure was loosened and the cell junctions had decreased or disappeared. The damage was most serious at 3 h after exposure. But at the same time point, pathological damage of testicular cells was not obvious in the 4 Hz group, with only a few testes cells swollen. The morphology of testicular tissue of mice in the 20 Hz subgroup exhibited no significant difference from the control group.β-catenin was mainly found in the membranes of Leydig cells,Sertoli cells and myoepithelial cells in all of the mice, and there was no significant change in the expression level or distribution pattern between the exposed mice and the controls. No expression ofβ-catenin was found in spermatogenic cells. ConclusionInfrasound at 4 Hz or 8 Hz can damage testicular tissue,at least in mice.At 20 Hz there is no significant effect on the testes. The loosened cell structure might have been caused by the mechanical force produced by the infrasound and not by any decrease of β-catenin.

Objective To identify the effective results of ultrasound in degradation of polymeric nanoparticles released DNA .Polymeric nanoparticles was made by dehydration of polyacetylglutamicacid (PLGA, polylactic-co-glycolic acid)solution. Method Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) was enclosed by PLGA. Different kinds of ultrasound mode and different duct cycle and power ones were used to radiate PLGA solution for 90 s, 9 min, 20 min separately after the solution prepared for 2 hrs, then putted the solution on centrifugal machine at 13000 r/m. Using Choloroform to get rid of fat-soluble impurity, then applied nanodrop to survey the releasing rate of DNA. Finally the effect of cell expression were observed by fluorescent microscope. Results The amount of DNA released from PLGA in groups which were exposed to ultrasound were significantly different from the groups which were not exposed to ultrosound. The releasing amount of former groups had upper limitation. The releasing rate was increased with the increment of the irradiation time, frequency of ultrasound; The effect of the DNA releasing and PLGA degradation by continuous-wave irradiation was stronger than pulsed-wave ultrasound. Conclusion Ultrasound can promote the degradation of PLGA, and do help in DNA releasing and expression in vitro.

Objective To determine the trend of emergency department (ED)mortality of a tertiary general hospital from 2004 to 2014 in order to find the factors that may impact on ED mortality. Methods Mortality in ED was estimated according to the ratio of ED visiting patients to ED deaths. And the data of all ED deaths in 2004,2009 and 2014 were collected.Variance analysis and chi-square test were used for data analysis. Results During the past decade,ED visiting patients was increased significantly by 38.0% in 2014,compared with those in 2004,and the mortality was also increased accordingly from 0.7% in 2004, to 0.9% in 2009,to 1.2% in 2014 (P <0.01).Finally,a total of 1,091 deaths occurred in these three years were included for further evaluation. There were no significant changes in average age and gender distribution, and the average age was 61.9 and the male /female ratio was 1.36∶1 during past decade. The number of adults under 40 years old (18 -39)increased from 7.5% in 2004,to 10.6% in 2009,to 14.4% in 2014 (P <0.05).Both the facilities were upgraded and the number of staffs in ED increased markedly. The cardiovascular illness, cerebrovascular diseases, and sudden death were the leading causes of ED death during past decade. The incidences of trauma and tumor remained unchanged.Average time consumed from onset of illness to arrival to ED didn’t vary significantly during past decade. The study showed no changes in use of ambulance, but remarkable increases in number of non-compliant patients or their family from 18.3% in 2004,to 25.6% in 2009,to 38.3% in 2014 (P <0.01).The percentage of patients in the night time was higher, but there were no significant changes in number of emergency patients in the night time and during holidays in the past decade, but the mean ED stay time increased obviously from 22.4 h in 2004 to 53.3 h in 2014 (P <0.05 ).Conclusions During the past decade, although ED facilities and number of staffs have been improved apparently,ED mortality rate still keeps on escalating. The increase in ED mortality rate may be related to the severely ill patients presenting to ED,the obvious decrease in compliance of patients and the prolonged ED stay time.
