China Pharmacy 2001;0(08):-
OBJECTIVE:To prepare Compound xianling-branded transdermal ointment and to discuss its pharmacologi-cal action.METHODS:The Chinese crude drugs in the formula were extracted by distilled water boiling and alcohol precipi-tation method, then the extracted essential oils were dissolved in azone, and then mixed with O/W cream-base and drug ex-tracts to prepare the end product.Furthermore, the comparative experiment was made in mus musulus albus to test the effects of the ointment on strengthening of masculinity(anti-fatigue cold endurance, and weight gain)in mus musulus albus, mating ability in male mus musulus albus, and weight gain of sex organs in young male mus musulus albus.RESULTS:The prepared product was light brown in appearance, smooth and delicate in quality, suitable in density, felt good and was easy to spread and clean.Besides, the preparation was stable in action. The preparation could strengthen masculinity and mating ability in male mus musulus albus, and increase the weight of sex organs in young male mus musulus albus.CONCLUSION:The preparation has confirmed therapeutic effect on impotence.

As an active hydroxyanthraquinone ingredient, emodin is abundant in Chinese medicine herbs, such as Rheum palmatum, Polygonum cuspidatum and Polygonum multiflorum.Modern pharmacological studies have shown that emodin has a variety of pharmacological activities including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory, antibacterial and anti-viral effects, myocardial protection, neuroprotection, renal protection, bone protection, antifibrosis and so on, which indicate its high medicinal value and broad application prospects. This article aims to summarize the progress in the pharmacological activity and mechanism of action of emodin published in domestic and international journals over the last 5 years and highlight the potential targets and molecular signaling pathways linked with emodin, so as to provide some clues and references for further development and clinical application of emodin.
