1.Content Determination of Six Types of Heavy Metals in Pian-Zai-Huang Gan-Bao Tablets by ICP-MS

This study was aimed to develop an ICP-MS method to determine contents of six types of heavy metals, which include Cr, Pb, Cd, As, Hg and Cu, in Pian-Zai-Huang Gan-Bao (PZHGB) tablets. The samples were pro-cessed by microwave digestion. And then, they were determined by ICP-MS. The results showed that the working curves of Cr, Cu, As, Cd, Hg and Pb had good linear relationships with the correlation coefficient which was more than 0.9993. The average recovery rate of Cr was 101.2%. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was 7.6%. The av-erage recovery rate of Cu was 96.4%, with the RSD of 3.5%. The average recovery rate of As was 101.3%, with the RSD of 1.8%. The average recovery rate of Cd was 100.2%, with the RSD of 0.3%. The average recovery rate of Hg was 100.5%, with the RSD of 4.2%. The average recovery rate of Pb was 104.2%, with the RSD of 5.6%. It was concluded that the method was stable and reliable, with high sensitivity and repeatability. This method can be used in the content determination of six types of heavy metals, which include Cr, Pb, Cd, As, Hg and Cu in PZHGB tablets.
2.Application of MDRD and CKD-EPI equations in patients with peripheral arterial diseases

Objective To compare the performance of newly developed Chronic Kidney Disease Epideniology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation and Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) equation in patients with peripheral arterial diseases (PAD).Methods A total of 841 patients with PAD were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study.Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), calculated by MDRD and CKD-EPI equation respectively, was analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis, Bland-Altman method and Kappa test for the evaluation of correlation and consistency.Net reclassification improvement (NRI) was adopted to compare the death risk assessment between these two equations.Results Although the eGFR was 4.33 ml· min-1 · (1.73 m2)-1 higher with MDRD equation than with CKD-EPI equation, there were still significant correlation and fine consistency between eGFRMDRD and eGFRCKD-EPI (Kappa: 0.749, r=0.991, P<0.05).The CKD-EPI equation re-classified 9 (1.1%) patients upward to higher eGFR category and 143 (17.0%) patients downward to lower eGFR category.Besides, the performance of risk assessment for all-cause death was better with CKD-EPI equation than with MDRD equation (NRI=0.059, P < 0.05), which was not the case for cardiovascular death (NRI=0.022, P > 0.05).Conclusions There is no solid evidence suggesting that CKD-EPI equation performs better than MDRD equation.

4.Primary ureteral cancer (report of 36 cases)

Objective To improve the diagnosis and treatment of primary ureteral cancer. Methods Thirty-six cases of primary ureteral cancer ascertained by pathological studies were reviewed.There were 22 men and 14 women with the mean age of 63 years.All patients underwent operation. Results Thirty-four cases (94%) were followed up for 6 to 180 months.Among them,6 died of metastasis,6 died of other diseases and 22 survived.Local recurrence in ureter or bladder occured in 3 patients 1~5 years after partial ureterectomy. Conclusions Nephroureterectomy and bladder cuff resection is the best treatment for primary carcinoma of ureter.Ureterectomy and bladder cuff resection should be carried out prior to nephrectomy for the lower segment ureteral carcinoma in order to lessen carcinoma cell transplantation in bladder.
5.Multiple primary malignant neoplasms of urologic and male genital system (report of 22 cases)

Objective To investigate the incidence and prognosis of multiple primary malignant neoplasms of urologic and male genital system. Methods 22 cases of multiple primary neoplasms patients treated from Jan 1980 to Jun 2000 were studied retrospectively. Results The total incidence rate of the multiple malignant neoplasms was 3.2%.In the 7 patients with synchronous occurrence of multiple pramary malignant neoplasms,the survival time was 6 to 40 months,with a mean of 15;In the other 15 patients,3 died after 7 months to 5 years,12 have survived 8 months to 15 years after the second carcinoma being treated. Conclusions Multiple primary malignant neoplasms of urologic and male genital system is more frequently seen ronadays.Early diagnosis and adequate treatment of the second primary carcinoma is the only means to achieve a long survival.So the patient should be closely followed up after the first carcinoma being treated.
6. An efficient and impartial online algorithm for kidney assignment network

An online algorithm balancing the efficiency and equity principles is proposed for the kidney resource assignment when only the current patient and resource information is known to the assignment network. In the algorithm, the assignment is made according to the priority, which is calculated according to the efficiency principle and the equity principle. The efficiency principle is concerned with the post-transplantation' immunity spending caused by the possible post-operation immunity rejection and patient's mental depression due to the HLA mismatch. The equity principle is concerned with three other factors, namely the treatment spending incurred starting from the day of registering with the kidney assignment network, the post-operation immunity spending and the negative effects of waiting for kidney resources on the clinical efficiency. The competitive analysis conducted through computer simulation indicates that the efficiency competitive ratio is between 6.29 and 10.43 and the equity competitive ratio is between 1. 31 and 5.21, demonstrating that the online algorithm is of great significance in application.

8.THE ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF ACTINOBACTERIA

The lineage-Actinobacteria class nov.comprises organisms with a DNA base composition which generally is above 50% G+C (with a few exceptions).We set up a method that has been used in isolating Actinobacteria and Actinomycetes. We added 25?g/mL Nalidixic acid and 25?g/mL Aztreonam into isolation media to inhibit the other bacteria and 20?g/mL Benlete to inhibit fungi.We used fluorescent in situ hybridization to identi 1fy Actinobacteria. Using the four probes,PA-1,PA-2,PHGC and PNHGC,we made the identification on the 31 strains of the 56 gram-positive bacteria randomly selected and got 22 positive results,6 negative results and 3 ambiguous results.It was showed that the results of G+C content determination and FISH method were identical.Among 31 strain,there were 24 strains of Actinobacteria,the rate was 77.4%.This proved the isolation and FISH identification methods were effective and reliable.
10.Analysis of Pathogen and Antimicrobial Susceptibility in Children with Bacterial Meningitis

Objective Pathogen and antimicrobial susceptibility in children with bacterial meningitis were reviewed.Methods The positive cultures of cerebrospinal fluid samples or blood samples and its antimicrobial susceptibility were analyzed in 401 patients with the clinical diagnosis of bacterial meningitis.Results 401 cases cerebrospinal fluid samples and blood samples submitted to microbiology laboratory, 97 cases (24%) were microscopically and culturally proven to be bacterial meningitis. The most frequent pathogen was staphylococcus aureus (28%), followed by the streptococcus pneumoniae (19%) and escherichia coli (13%). Pediococci as conditioned pathogen, were found in purulent meningitis patients. One of the isolates of Staphylococcus aureus was simultaneously resistant to both vancomycin and teicoplanin. Three isolates showed simultaneous resistance to imipenem/cilastatin.Conclusions Staphylococcus aureus as the predominant pathogens of pediatric ranks first among pediatric patients of purulent meningitis. Serious drug resistance of isolated pathogenic bacteria and its in antimicrobial susceptibility in the bacterial meningitis should be considered in clinical therapy.
