Objective To investigate the features of gait in patients with lumbar disc herniation suffering low back pain radiating to the unilateral lower limbs during walking, and estimate the test-retest reliability of the plantar pressure distribution. Methods 32 patients of lumbar disc herniation with low back pain radiating to the unilateral lower limb were tested with the Footscan plantar system during normal walking for 5 times. The gait phases, contacting time of every plantar region and maximum force were recorded in both the uneffected and the affected lower limbs in patients. The reliability was estimated with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results There were significant differences between the uneffected and the affected lower limbs in the gait phase except for the Initial Contact Phase. The Forefoot Contact Phase and Foot Flat Phase of the affected lower limbs were obvious shorter than the uneffected ones (P<0.01), while the Forefoot Push Off Phase was longer (P<0.01). Except for the region of Metatarsal 5, the contacting time of every plantar region of the affected lower limbs were lower than the uneffected ones (P<0.05). The maximum force of regions of Metatarsal 4, Metatarsal 5 and Heel Lateral were lower in the affected limbs than the uneffected ones (P<0.05). ICCs of gait phase, the contacting time of every plantar region and maximum force were generally over 0.76. Conclusion Differences were found in gait phase, the contacting time of every plantar region and maximum force between the uneffected and the affected lower limbs in patients with lumbar disc herniation. All the variables are reliable for test-retest.

The effects of adsorption time, solid-liquid ratio, sample concentration, flow rate on the adsorption properties of supported ionic liquids(the N-methylimidazolium functionalized silica, SilprMin) for flavonoids were investigated. The results indicated that the adsorption equilibrium for tested compounds, genistein, luteolin and quercetin, was achieved within 30 min, the adsorption efficiencies of these three compounds were improved with the increase of solid-liquid ratio, and decreased with the increase of their concentrations. Moreover, the adsorption isotherm data of the three tested compounds were in good concordance with the Langmuir model. The saturated adsorption capacity of SilprMim for genistein, luteolin and quercetin was 47.7, 52.5 and 63.2 mg/g, respectively. Adsorption efficiency of SilprMim could reach more than 90% at a sample flow rate of 0.5~1.5 mL/min. Using methanol as eluent, the saturated desorption efficiencies of genistein, luteolin and quercetin were 86.1%, 83.3% and 84.6%, respectively. The elution order of the three tested flavonoids was genistein, luteolin and quercetin. SilprMim had strong adsorption and separation capacity for three tested flavonoids, which was hopeful to be applied in separation and purification of naturally occurring flavonoids.

Aim To investigate the synergistic effects and possible molecular mechanism of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and alcohol on liver injury in HBV transgenic mice(HBV-Tg mice). Methods 20 HBV-Tg mice and 20 wild-type mice were randomly divided into 4 groups:alcohol-fed Tg mice and alcohol-fed Wt mice, and they were given intragastric administration with alcohol. Control Tg mice and control Wt mice received intragastric administration with saline. All groups were rasied for 10 weeks. The levels of ALT and AST in serum, the degree of inflammation, the degree of fibrosis, the mRNA expression of TGF-β_1, Smad3, Smad7, CTGF and the protein expression of TGF-β_1, CTGF, α-SMA in liver tissue were detected. Results The serumlevel of ALT and AST, the mRNA expression of TGF-β_1, Smad3, Smad7, CTGF and the protein expression of TGF-β_1, CTGF, α-SMA in liver all increased markedly in alcohol-fed Tg mice. Alcohol consumption induced hepatocyte steatosis and hepatic inflammation in alcohol-fed Tg mice, but the change of liver fibrosis was not remarkable. Conclusion HBV and alcohol have synergistic effects on early liver injury, possibly by enhancing the expression of TGF-β_1, Smad3, CTGF, α-SMA and inducing unbalanced expression of Smads.

Objective To explore the application of CT value in calculating the proton incident energy in proton treatment planning system. Methods Bethe-Block formula and the formula for calculating the proton range were analyzed to study the correlation of the range of proton beam ( 70-250 MeV ) between a variety of radiation equivalent material and water. Procedure of Monte Carlo SRIM2008 was used to verify the possibility of a constant proportional coefficient of range ( Ci ). The proportional coefficient ( Ci ) of range in radiation-equivalent material and the CT value were fitted by using Origin 8.0 software to study the functional relation of CT value and Ci. The actual range of proton was equivalent to a range of water and incident proton energy could be calculated. Results There was a constant range of Ci of proton beam (70-250 MeV) between a variety of radiation equivalent material and water. There was a functional relation between CT value and Ci ( r = 0.999). The actual range of proton in radiation equivalent material can be equivalent to a range of the water. Conclusions CT values and a range of proportional coefficient ( Ci ),and the actual required range of the tumor could be used to accurately calculate the water equivalent range, and the incident proton energy to the position of Bragg peak. A new exploration for using CT technology in proton treatment planning system could be obtained.
