AIM: To assess the effect of indomethacin on tumor invasion in a human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cell line in vitro. METHODS: Hep-2 cells were exposed to indomethacin at different concentrations for 48 h. Then cell growth rate, the colony formation in soft agar medium and cell mobility were examined, and monolayer invasion assay was performed to assess cell invasion index. RESULTS: Preteatment with indomethacin inhibited the colony formation of Hep-2 cells and the cell mobility, and decreased the invasion index. CONCLUSION: Indomethacin can inhibit the invasion of Hep-2 cells.

AIM: To evaluate the significance of cytokeratin19 (CK19) expression in diagnosing micrometastases in lymph nodes in patients with laryngeal carcinoma. METHODS: Forty cases of laryngeal carcinoma together with 163 lymph nodes were studied by the staining with hematoxylin and eosin(HE)and immunostaining with antibody against cytokeratin 19 (CK19) on histological sections of the primary tumor and regional lymph nodes. RESULTS: In all cases, CK19 was positively expressed in the primary tumor. Among 163 lymph nodes, metastases were confirmed by HE in 23 lymph nodes, and in 42 lymph nodes staining with immunohistochemistry, micrometastases were found in 19 lymph nodes. Micrometastases in the lymphonodes were significantly related to the T staging. CONCLUSION: Immunohistochemical staining is a valuable method for the detection of node micrometastases in patients with laryngeal carcinoma.

AIM:To explore the effects of small interfering RNA(siRNA) targeting PCNA gene on nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells growth and cycle.METHODS:Three synthesized siRNA targeting PCNA gene was transfected into CNE2 cells by using LipofectamineTM reagent. The PCNA mRNA and PCNA protein were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemical method.Inverted phase contrast microscope was used to determine the CEN2 cells growth before and after PCNA-siRNA transfected.Flow cytometry was used to observe the cell cycle.RESULTS:In CNE2 cells after PCNA-siRNA transfection, the expressions of PCNA mRNA and protein were down-regulated at different degree.Inhibition ratio of PCNA mRNA was 98.5%.Meanwhile,the cell cycle was suffocated at G0/G1 stage.CONCLUSION:The synthesized PCNA-siRNA effectively interferes nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells by down-regulating the expressions of the PCNA mRNA and its protein, therefore inhibits the growth of CNE2 cells.Future application of PCNA-siRNA in the gene therapy of nasopharyngeal carcinoma might be expected.

A case of 76-years-old male patient with nasal bleeding as the first symptom in our hospital, who was finally diagnosed as tsutsugamushi disease. This old man was bited by insect in farmland 2 days before the symptom occurred. PE: Left thigh and right buttock have eschar, with splenomegaly. Routine blood test: WBC (decrease) 3.9 x 10(9)/L, RBC (decrease) 3.86 x 10(9)/L, PLT (decrease) 41 x 10(9)/L, HGB (decrease) 117 g/L; Chest CT: lung interstitial pneumonia, a small amount of bilateral pleural effusion. Oxk-ag 1:320. The patient was discharged after treatment with chloramphenicol for 8 days.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2001;(5):209-211
Objective:In order to ascertain the lateral operation and medial maxillectomy affect on nasal airway.Method:Report 16 cases of nasal cavity or nasal sinus neoplasm who were therapied by lateral rhinotomy and medial maxillectomy. They were observed by acoustic rhinometer (AR) and CT examination in 1~2.5 years after the surgery. Result:The feeling of nasal obstruct were disappeared in 3 months after the surgery. The nasal airway resistance(NAR) of the ill nasal cavity was markedly decreased after the surgery, and the total NAR were decreasing unmarkably. The mucous proliferation was notable only in the first year after surgery, and especially on remains of the inferior turbinate or extra wall of nasal cavity. Conclusion:Lateral rhinotomy operation and medial maxillectomy have less impact on nasal airway and the functions.

AIM: To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in inflammatory mucosa of lacrimal sac. METHODS: Immunohistochemical S-P method was used to examine the expression of VEGF in the mocusa from 12 patients with chronic dacryocystitis and 8 volunteers. RESULTS: The positive rates of VEGF expression in different parts of the mocusa were: basal lamina: 44.3%+7.6%; surface epithelium: 16.9%?4.6%; connective tissue: 15.2%?4.9%, all normal mocusa of 8 cases were negative. There was a significant difference between the two groups (P

OBJECTIVE To investigate the rela-tionship between the expression of the proto-oncogene cerbB-2 proteins p185, level of adhesion molecules CD44v6, and lymphoid metastasis of laryngeal squa-mous cell carcinomas (LSCC). METHODS The expres-sion of p185 and CD44v6 in 63 specimen of LSCC tissues were examined by immunohistochemical method. RESULTS There was a significant difference in the expression of p185 between patient groups with and without lymphoid metastasis(P

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1986;0(02):-
AIM: To study the allergic disease in recurrent tonsillitis. METHODS: Immunohistochemical technique was used to investigate interleukin-4(IL-4) production in tonsil. RESULTS:The result showed that: a higher incidence of IL-4 producing cells were found in the tonsils of all ages, and a high density of IL-4 was found in the reticular crypt epithelium and extrafollicular, but low density in germinalcenter. IL-4 has been shown play a crucial role in the pathogensis of allergic disease. CONCLUSION:Allergic disease is an important reason of recurrent tonsillitis. The conclusion will give a new way to cure recurrent tonsillitis.
