Objective To investigate the impact of health education and standard treatments on the life quality of asthmatic children. Methods We conducted clinic treatments of 110 cases of asthmatic children lasting for 6 months, which were divided into standard treatment and health education group with 60 cases and group without standard treatment and health education with 50 cases. We emphasized the education management on cases in experimental group, which strictly obeyed the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to formulate classified treatments as well as regular follow-up.Control group received the same treatments as experimental group yet without emphasizing health education about asthma on parents, which was accompanied with irregular follow-up.We compared the before-treatment and after-treatment life-quality and lung functions of asthmatic children. Moreover,we used Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ) to evaluate the before-treatment and after-treatment life quality of asthmatic children. Results After follow-up lasting for 6 months, the treatments of experiment group had obvious improvements (P <0.01).The improvements of peak expiratory flow (PEF) of lung function test and timed vital capacity of the first second (FEV1) of experimental group were also better than the improvements of these two metrics of control group (P < 0.01).In addition, after 6 months,in both all dimensions of PAQLQ and total score, the differences between before and after treatment of experimental group were significant (P < 0.01,P < 0.05) ; and the differences between experimental group and control group were also significant in both all dimensions of PAQLQ score (12.4 ±2.1) and total score comparing to the control group (8.1 ±2.3),and the differences are also significant (t =2.5,P < 0.01).Conclusions Health education and standard treatments significantly improved the life quality of asthmatic children with a good compliance of treatment and a low recurrence rate, which is worth of popularizing.

AIM: To investigate the protective effect of fluvastatin and its influence on ICAM-1 mRNA expression in ischemia/reperfusion myocardium of normocholesterolemic rabbits. METHODS: 24 rabbits were divided into three groups randomly and myocardial ischemia/reperfusion model in the rabbit was made. Rabbits were subjected to 45 min of regional myocardial ischemia and 2 h of reperfusion. 10 mg?kg~ -1 ?d~ -1 fluvastatin were administered for one week. Dynamic index of blood flow was recorded and analyzed. Serum activity of CK, CKMB, LDH and LDH-1 were measured. The expression of ICAM-1 mRNA in ischemic myocardium was detected with semi-quantitative RT-PCR. RESULTS: In comparison with control group, pretreatment with fluvastatin decreased LVEDP at the whole observed duration, and spontaneously increased ?dp/dt_ max . Serum activities of CK, CKMB and LDH-1 in control group were significantly higher than those in sham group, but heavily reduced in fluvastatin group. Increased expression of ICAM-1 mRNA due to ischemia reperfusion was reduced significantly in fluvastatin group compare to control group. CONCLUSION: Pretreatment of fluvastatin may reduce inflammation reaction in reperfused myocardium, and this may contribute to its protective effect against experimental myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury.

AIM: To investigate the effects of fluvas-tatin on expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 after myocardial ischemia-reperfusion in rabbits with hyper-lipidemia. METHODS: 30 rabbits which were gastric perfusion administered intralipid were randomly divided into 3 groups ( n - 10 in each) : IR ( ischemia-reperfusion) group, S (sham-operation) group and F (fluvastatin 10 mg?kg-1 ) group. Electrocardiography and cardiac function were recorded during the experiment. At the end of reperfusion, ischemic area and infarct size were defined by Evans blue and triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining. The expression of ICAM-1 in myocardium was measuredby RT-PCR. RESULTS: After ischemia-reperfusion, the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA in myocardial and infarct size decreased and cardiac function significantly improved in F group compared with IR group. CONCLUSION: The increase of expression of ICAM-1 mRNA in myocardial may be one of the important factors in inducing myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. The myocardial protective mechanism of fluvastatin maybe attribute to its effect on decreasing the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA in myocardial .

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of fewer courses and prolonged intervals of chemotherapy on survival rate of advanced non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated by sequential chemo-radiation therapy combined with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). METHODS: From Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2001, 54 untreated advanced NSCLC patients (2 stage IIIa, 18 stage IIIb, 34 stage IV) were treated by sequential chemo-radiation therapy combined with TCM. The courses of chemotherapy were reduced and the intervals of chemotherapy were longer than that of the standard regimen. The efficacy and survival rate were documented and the prognostic factors were analyzed. RESULTS: Complete remission (CR) was observed in 1 case and partial remission (PR) in 20 cases. The overall objective response rate was 40.4%. Median survival was 15.3 months, 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rate were 53.7%, 28.9% and 9.6% respectively. The median survival of stage III and IV were 21.8 months and 12.5 months respectively. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates of stage III were 65.0%, 49.5%, 24.7% and that of stage IV were 47.0%, 23.3%, 0%, respectively. The quality of life was improved in most of the patients. Cox's proportional hazards regression showed that improved quality of life and treatment of TCM were the significant prognostic factors of overall survival. CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy and radiotherapy combined with TCM is beneficial to extending the interval of chemotherapy, improving the quality of life, and increasing the survival rate of advanced NSCLC patients.

BACKGROUND:Studies have reported that the superfamily of transforming growth factors exert a role in the mineralization of various stem cells, but the combination effects of transforming growth factorβ3 and heparin on proliferation and mineralization ability of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth remains to be studied. OBJECTIVE:To explore the effect of transforming growth factorβ3 on odontoblast-like differentiation of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth. METHODS:Human deciduous teeth were col ected using enzyme digestion. The 3rd cells were incubated with 25μg/L recombinant human transforming growth factorβ3, 10 U/mL heparin or their combination. The dentin sialophosphoprotein mRNA and dentinsialoprotein expressions were detected by Q-PCR and western blot assay. Alkaline phosphatase activity was determined using alkaline phosphatase kit. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth grew wel after induction. The activity of alkaline phosphatase in the combination group was significantly higher than that in the transforming growth factorβ3, heparin and control groups (P<0.01). After combination induction, the cells were strongly positive for alizarin red staining. Results fromα-PCR and western blot assay showed that the expressions of dentin sialophosphoprotein were both remarkably increased at mRNA and protein levels. In summary, stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth can differentiate into odontoblast-like cells under the induction of transforming growth factorβ3 plus heparin.

BACKGROUND:The role of transforming growth factorβsuperfamily has been reported in bone mineralization of various types of stem cells, but the effects of transforming growth factorβ3 (TGF-β3) combined with heparin on proliferation and mineralization of dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth remains to be studied. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effects of TGF-β3 on the proliferation and mineralization of dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth. METHODS:The enzyme digestion method was utilized to separately culture dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth. The cellcolony forming efficiency was determined. Flow cytometry was utilized to identify cellsurface marker CD146. Immunochemistry for Vimentin and STRO1 was performed to measure dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth. The third passage dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth cultured in vitro were intervened with heparin and TGF-β3 of 1, 5, 25μg/L mass concentration. The MTS method was applied to measure cellgrowth curves. Alizarin red staining was carried out. The changes in alkaline phosphatase activity were determined with alkaline phosphatase kit. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The cellcolony forming efficiency was high. cells were positive for CD146, and strongly positive for Vimentin and STRO1. Dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth were identified. MTS assay indicated that there was no obvious effect on promoting proliferation of dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth after stimulation of TGF-β3. Detection results of alkaline phosphatase activity demonstrated that the combination of TGF-β3 and heparin could strengthen the alkaline phosphatase activity of dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth with increased concentration. Alkaline phosphatase activities were significantly higher in the TGF-β3+heparin group, TGF-β3 group and heparin group than in the control group (P<0.01). Alizarin red staining was positive in the TGF-β3+heparin group, and the staining was strongest in the 5μg/L TGF-β3+heparin group. Results indicated that TGF-β3 combined with heparin promoted mineralization of dental pulp stem cells from human deciduous teeth.

Objective:To explore the social and physical anhedonia and its relationship to intrinsic motivation in patients with schizophrenia. Methods:One hundred and twenty-five stable schizophrenic patients from three psychiatric hospitals in Hefei, Wuhu and Beihai, and 101 healthy controls from same communities were recruited. All subjects completed Chinese version of revised social anhedonia scale(RSAS-C), Chinese version of revised physical anhedonia scale(RPAS-C) and intrinsic motivation inventory for schizophrenia research(IMI-SR), while positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS) and Calgary depression scale for schizophrenia(CDSS) were used to assess the clinical symptoms of schizophrenic patients. All analyses were conducted by SPSS 26.0 software. The Mann-Whitney U test and covariance analysis were used for comparison between the groups, and Spearman correlation and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to explore the association between the anhedonia and intrinsic motivation in schizophrenics. Results:Compared with controls, the RSAS-C (10.00(6.00, 14.00) vs 11.00(8.00, 15.00), Z=-2.187, P<0.05) and RPAS-C (12.00(7.50, 20.00) vs 16.00(10.00, 23.00), Z=-3.026, P<0.01) scores in patients were higher, but the differerce between the groups disappeared after controlling age, sex and years of education. The IMI-SR perceived choice subscore (31.00(28.00, 39.00 vs 36.00(31.00, 42.00), Z=-3.172, P<0.01) were lower, while value/usefulness subscores (41.00(35.00, 45.00) vs 36.00(32.00, 42.00), Z=-3.387, P<0.01) were higher in patients than those in controls, and there was no significant difference between the total score and interest/enjoyment subscore(both P<0.05). In patents, Spearman correlation analysis showed that the RSAS-C and RPAS-C scores were significant negatively correlated with the IMI-SR total scores and interest/enjoyment subscore, perceived choice and value/usefulness( r=-0.193--0.364, all P<0.05), which still existed after controlling age, sex, years of education, course of disease, antipsychotic dose, and scores of PANSS and CDSS.Logistic regression analysis showed that the score of RSAS-C( B=-0.096, 95% CI=0.836-0.998, P=0.025) and perceived choice subscore( B=-0.110, 95% CI=0.823-0.974, P=0.010) had negative effects on the IMI-SR total score. Conclusion:There is a correlation between anhedonia and intrinsic motivation in patients with schizophrenia, the higher the social anhedonia, the lower the intrinsic motivation to participate in cognitive activities, suggesting that intervention for social anhedonia may have significance in improving the intrinsic motivation of patients with cognitive rehabilitation therapy.
