Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2016;20(8):1126-1132
BACKGROUND: In recent years, al kinds of absorbable internal fixation materials have been used in the clinical treatment of patel ar transverse fractures. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the repairing effect of absorbable internal fixation materials on patel ar transverse fractures. METHODS: Total y 102 cases of fresh patel ar transverse fractures were included 62 males and 40 females cases, with a mean age of (41.85±11.15) years, and according to treatment methods, they were divided into two groups: observation group (n=52) using absorbable screws for reconstruction and control group (n=50) using Kirschner wire repair. At 12 months after repair, Lysholm knee function score were measured and evaluated, and the occurrence of adverse events was recorded. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The knee function score and excel ent rate of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (both P < 0.05). In the observation group, there were four cases of fracture displacement, but no skin irritation and other adverse events occurred; in the control group, there were two cases of nonunion and five cases of skin irritation or internal fixation loosening and slippage. Therefore, there was a higher incidence of adverse events in the control group compared with the observation group (P < 0.05). These experimental results show that the use of absorbable screws in the repair of patel ar transverse fracture can promote the functional recovery of the knee joint, with good biocompatibility.

Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2011;34(12):27-29
Objective To explore the clinical significance of interleukin (IL)- 17 in nasopharyngeal secretions (NPS) and serum of wheezing children under 5 years old. Methods Fifty-three children with recurrent wheezing under 5 years old were divided into wheezing group Ⅰ (with atopic high risks,27 cases)and wheezing group Ⅱ (without atopic high risks, 26 cases) ;20 children without infectious diseases such as hernia and renal calculus were enrolled as control group. After collecting and dealing their NPS and serum, the levels of IL-17 were measured by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results The levels of IL-17 in serum and NPS in wheezing group Ⅰ [(1469.32 ± 978.30),(1473.70 ±974.35) ng/L],and wheezing group Ⅱ [(263.34 ± 131.80), (788.28±132.40) ng/L] were significantly higher than those in control group [(36.48 ± 2.00), (36.45 ± 5.00) ng/L] (P < 0.01 ), and the levels of IL- 17 in wheezing group Ⅰ were higher than those in wheezing group Ⅱ (P < 0.05 ); the expression of IL- 17 in NPS and serum had a positive correlation (r = 0.313,P < 0.05). Conclusion The detections of IL-17 in NPS can be used as laboratory index to distinguish wheezing children who have a tendency to persistent wheezing, and early intervention and treatment should be given.

Objective To develop autosomal SNP fluorescent-multiplex PCR system, and investigate the allele frequencies of these 13 SNP loci in Southern Liaoning Han population. Methods After selected 13 autosomal SNP loci,SNP fluorescent-multiplex system was developed based on the principle of fragment length discrepant allele specific PCR,and the allele frequencies of these SNP loci in Southern Liaoning Han population were investigated using the established system. Results For the same SNP locus, the homozygote showed a single product peak, and the heterozygote showed two product peaks with different length. For the different SNP loci, the lengths of their PCR products were different. Therefore,we could genotype the 13 SNP loci simultaneously according to the length of products and the amount of product peaks, and the results were in accordance with that of direct sequencing. In the meanwhile, the allelic frequencies of these 13 SNP loci in Southern Liaoning Han population were obtained. Conclusion The SNP fluorescent-multiplex system based on the fragment length discrepant allele specific PCR strategy is simple and economical, and is of a high application value in forensic medicine.

Objective To investigate the relationship between [Ca2 +]i and gentamicin ototoxicity. Methods Isolated outer hair cells were loaded with [Ca2 +]i - sensitive fluorescence dye Fluo- 3, and confocal laser microscopy was used to determine [Ca2 +]i when K +- Hanks、gentamicin or its metabolite were added. Results Gentamicin decreased [Ca2 +]i in short time, and inhibited inward calcium current induced by K + . On the contrary, metabolized gentamicin increased [Ca2 + ] i for a long period. It did not effect calcium current induced by K + . Conclusion Metabolized gentamicin increased [Ca2 + ]i, which may result in its ototoxicity.

Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological features of riboflavin-reactive lipid storage myopathy. Methods Clinical material of 4 patients with riboflavin-reactive lipid storage myopathy were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the patients were subacute onset and presented proximal and axial muscle weakness accompanied by intolerance to excise.Amyotrophy and weakness involved in neck and paraspinal muscle were found in 3 cases, and chewing muscle weakness in 2 cases.Electromyogram showed myogenic changes in 2 cases and reduced conductive velocity of tibial nerves in 1 case.Muscle Biopsy study showed markedly increased lipid droplets in muscle fibers. The ragged red fibers, succinate dehydrogenase strongly reactive vessels and COX deficiency fibers which supported mitochondrial myopathy were not detected.Electromicroscope observation revealed that the structure and quantity of mitochondria were normal. All the patients had a dramatic response to riboflavin treatment. Two cases were cured and the other two were improved significantly. Two cases relapsed 1 year and 5 years later, respectively, and riboflavin was still effective for them. Conclusions Riboflavin-reactive lipid storage myopathy is a myopathy characterized by preferential involvement of neck, paraspinal and chewing muscles. The distinct pathological features are lipid accumulation in muscle fibers without any abnormalities of mitochondrial structure and quantity.Riboflavin alone is effective for this myopathy and this is distinguished from other myopathies.

Objective To investigate the clinical, genetic and pathological features of familial chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) type of mitochondrial myopathy. Methods Clinical manifestations, family histories and pathological findings of 21 patients with CPEO type of mitochondrial myopathy from 3 families constellations were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the patients had ptosis and movement disorder of eyeball, with or without myasthenia. An autosomal dominant pattern of transmission was deduced from one family and a maternal transmission appeared most likely in the other two families. The striking and common pathologic findings were presence of ragged red fibers and cytochrome C oxidase (COX) deficiency fibers under microscope. Ultrastructural alterations included subsarcolemmal accumulation of mitochondria, increase of mitochondria with abnormal shape, disarrangement of cristae and paracrystaline inclusion bodies. Conclusions The clinical and pathological features between generations and families seem to be similar. It is suggested that different genetic mode of CPEO may lead to similar clinical and pathological features.

Objective To explore the effects of treatment and mechanism of sodium salicylate on blast deafness. Methods Guinea pigs were divided into blast group, blast plus sodium Salicylate group and sodium solicylate group. The animals in the blast group were exposed to blast average peak pressure 176.7 dB(SPL); sodium salicylate was injected IP 400 mg/kg,1/d. Monitoring ABR threshold, the value of MDA of and counting the number of hair cells on the cochlea preparation, SEM for hair cells was observed. Results The ABR threshold shift in the blast group was 46.75±13.56 dB,38.0±12.4 dB,35.5±10.67 dB,41.5±12.57 dB,33.75±8.42 dB, post-blast 1 d,3 d,1 w,2 w,4 w respectively. And that of the blast plus sodium salicylate was 46.65±11.7 dB,38.25±9.52 dB,30.5±9.17 dB,30.0±9.17 dB,23.0±6.57 dB. The two groups differed significantly at 1 w,2 w,4 w(P<0.05). The value of MDA differed significantly at 2 w,4 w(P<0.05). And the hair cells lost also differed significantly. It was observed that sodium salicylated can raise the ABR thresbold temporarily 24 hrs during simple sodium salicylate adminastration. However it recovered 14 hrs after the injection. Conclusion Sodium salicylate can partially attenuate the hearing loss caused by blast. It is probable that sodium salicylate can clear peroxicative produced during blast and therefore protect hair cells and make hearing loss partially recover.

Journal of Audiology and Speech Pathology 2000;8(3):134-136
ObjectiveIn order to investigate the effects of shock wave on atrial natriuretic peptides immunoreactivity in the stria vascularis and hair cells of cochlear and correlation of auditory threshold shift,to study the mechanism of deafness caused by blast trauma. MethodsAfter shock wave, different groups of guinea pigs were studied by ABC immunohistochemistry, image analysis and auditory brainstem response. ResultsANP - IR optic density in experimental group was higher than that of control in the stria vascularis and inner hair cells. The change of ANP- IR optic density was directy correlated with ABR threshold shift (r2 =0.9185. P2<0.05). There was no change of ABR and ANP - IR optic density on outer hair cells. ConclusionThe change of ANP in the stria vascularis may be a compensatory mechanism to heating lose caused by shock wave; ANP in inner cells may be a pathological manifestation of shock wave. The changes of ANP - IR in outer cells may be a false appearance, it was the shock wave which lead to outer cells ANP running off.
