Chinese Journal of Vaccines and Immunization 2001;7(2):72-75
Measles surveillance in Jiangsu Province started in 1999 by dividing the province into two sorts of areas. The first sort of area is economic well-developed area where EPI is carried out well and measles incidence is lower. The cities of this area investigated included Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Zhenjiang. The second sort of area included 9 cities (Nanjing, Xuzhou, Liangyungang, Nantong, Huaiyin, Suqian, Yangcheng, Yangzhou and Taizhou) where all the conditions are not as good as that mentioned in the first sort of area. The surveillance system of the province reported in 1999 a total of 938 suspected measles cases in 13 cities, of which 684 were confirmed as measles. The notifiable reporting system reported 846 suspected measles cases and 684 cases were confirmed. This indicated that the surveillance system operated well. The measles epidemiological features in two sorts of areas were compared. In first sort of area, including Nanjing, the measles cases of ≥15 years old accounted for 66.3% of the total cases. In second sort of area, not including Nanjing, the measles cases of <15 years old accounted for 90.8% of the total cases, and 73.2% of them were patients <10 years old. In 1999, there were 10 measles outbreaks occurred in the province and 218 measles cases were reported which accounted for 31.7% of the confirmed measles cases reported by the provincial measles surveillance system. 9% the 10 outbreaks occurred in the second sort of area, the cases were preschool and primary school children. The results showed that progression of EPI work was uneven in two sorts of areas of Jiangsu Province.

Aim: To establish an HPLC method for the determination of secnidazole and its related substances, and to elucidate the structure of the main related substances. Methods: HPLC was performed on an Agilent C_(18) (150 mm × 4. 6 mm, 5 μm) column. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile and 0. 1% formic acid solution( 10 : 90). The detection wavelength was set at 320 nm and the column oven was maintained at 30 ℃. The mass spec-trometry detector was equipped with an ESI source with a temperature of 350 ℃, and set at positive ion monito-ring model The spray chamber pressure was 0. 34 MPa. The drying gas flow rate was 10 L/min. Results: Sec-nidazole was completely separated from the impurities. The calibration curve of secnidazole was linear over the range of 0. 10-1 500. 0 μg/mL with the correlation coefficient of 0. 999 9. The contents of secnidazole in the sam-ples were 100.5%, 100.3% and 100.7%, respectively, and those of the related substances were 0.463%, 0. 488% and 0.465%, respectively. The three related substances were identified by HPLC-UV-MS~n as 2-methyl-5-nitroimida-zole and the isomerides of secnidazole, respectively. Conclusion: The developed method is reliable for the quality control and determination of related substances of secnidazole.

AIM: To study effects of hypericin associated with light emitting diode irradiation on nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line of human in vitro. METHODS: CNE-2 cells were exposed respectively to different concentration of hypericin, and compared with hematoporphyrin as positive control group, and incubated for 6 h in the dark, then accumulative radiated energe of yellow and red light irradiation equivalent to 5. 67 J/cm2 were given throughout 90 min, killing effect and apoptosis of CNE-2 cells were detected by MTT assay after incubation of 24 h and flow cytometry. RESULTS: MTT assay showed that cytotoxicity of hypericin and hematoporphyrin with light irradiation presented in dose-dependent way, their IC50 values were 0. 049 and 0. 650 ?g/mL,respectively. Flow cytometry showed that hypericin with light irradiation could block cell growth at S phase and G2 phase, when CNE-2 cells were exposed to hypericin at 0. 20 ?g/mL for 18,28 and 48 h,the apoptosis rate reached at 9. 97% ,72. 19% and 92. 24% . CONCLUSION: Hypericin with light irradiation could obviously inhibit the growth of CNE-2 cells and induce apoptosis.

To cultivate innovative medical students is the inevitable trend to adapt to the social de-velopment in the higher medical education. Stomatology is a subject emphasizing on practical and innovation ability, so paying attention to the cultivation of students' application ability and innovation ability in the undergraduate stage, combining theoretical study and research innovation, can lay a good foundation for the study and work. In recent years, the College of Stomatology of Chongqing Medical University has created the scientific research atmosphere, established the platform of scientific research, attempted the undergraduate tutorial system, expanded the construction of teaching resource, and involved undergraduate to take part in the scientific research practice. The college has taken many active measures to train the scientific innovation ability of undergraduates, and has obtained good results. Some undergraduates have already possessed a certain ability to find and solve problems as well as independently think. They have also enhanced their awareness of reading literature and critically accepting knowledge and improved their comprehensive quality.

OBJECTIVETo preliminarily study the effect of fertilizer methods on the yield and quality of Fritillaria ussuriensis.
METHODThrough the investigation of the available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium in soil fertility of F. ussuriensis planting field as well as the measurement of total nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium contents in bulbus of F. ussuriensis, the balanced fertilization plan for cultivation of F. ussuriensis was made.
RESULTThe optimal fertilizing amount was 13.0 kg x m(-2) pig dung, or 5.5 kg x m(-2) deer dung and 6.5 kg x m(-2) pig dung, or 11.0 kg x m(-2) deer dung.
CONCLUSIONEffective fertilizing may increase significantly the yield and quality of F. ussuriensis.

Objective To observe the efficacy, toxic side effects, survival time and quality of life (QOL) of vinorelbine and vinorelbine plus carboplatin in elderly patients with stage Ⅲ b/Ⅳ non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods Eighty patients aged 65 years or over with stage Ⅲ b/Ⅳ non-small cell lung cancer were randomly divided into two groups. One group was treated with vinorelbine (vinorelbine 25 mg/m2 iv d1,8, repeated every 21 days), the other group was treated with vinorelbine plus carboplatin(vinorelbine 25 mg/m2 iv at day 1 and 8 and earboplatin AUC5 iv at day 1, repeated every 21 days). Results The response rate(RR), median survival time(MST) and 1-year survival rate were 35.0%, 9.0 months and 35.0% in vinorelbine group and were 42.5%, 10.0 months and 37.5% in vinorelbine plus carboplatin group respectively. There was no significant difference between two groups(χ2 =0.296,P=0.586).The incidences of Ⅲ-Ⅳ degree granulocytopenia (χ2 =7.168,P=0.014), Ⅲ-Ⅳ degree thrombocytopenia (χ2 = 5.165,P=0.048)and Ⅲ-Ⅳ degree nausea and vomiting (χ2 =6.275, P =0.025) were significantly higher in the combined chemotherapy group than in the vinorelbine treatment group. The scores of lung cancer symptom scale (LCSS) of appetite loss(χ2 =2.600,P=0.011), fatigue(χ2 =3.169,P=0.002) and pain(χ2 =2.257,P=0.027) were more higher in the vinorelbine treatment group than in the combined chemotherapy group. Conclusions Vinorelbine regimen is effective, well tolerated and more favorable for the elderly NSCLC patients.
