AIM: To investigate the effect of chronic atrial fibrillation (AF) on free calcium concentration and expression of Ca 2+ /calmodulin dependent protein kinase Ⅱ (CaMKⅡ) in human atrial myocytes. METHODS: The intracellular free calcium concentration in acute isolated atrial myocytes and the expression of CaMKⅡ in atrial tissue of rheumatic heart disease patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and with normal sinus rhythm were measured by laser scanning cofocal microscopy technique and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS: The intracellular Ca 2+ concentration in patients with atrial fibrillation was significantly higher than that in patients with normal sinus rhythm [(276.38?38.12) nmol/L vs (122.28?45.63) nmol/L, P

Almost 3% of newborns are diagnosed as small for gestational age(SGA)worldwide.Born SGA is one of the important causes of perinatal morbidity and mortality, and is also associated with metabolic diseases in adulthood.Low birth weight by itself is insufficient to characterize growth restriction,as it does not include information about the neonate’s body proportionality.Depending on the origin, timing and severity of in-sult,small for gestational age infants are classified into two types:proportionate or symmetric growth restriction (SGR)and disproportionate or asymmetric growth restriction(AGR).There may be differences in physical and neurological development of these two types. This study compares three classification indexes, and to find differ-ences in postnatal growth of these two types.

Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2015;(19):1466-1469
Objective To understand the distribution of overweight and obesity in 0-5 years old children who were born small for gestational age ( SGA) in Shanghai through a cross-sectional investigation. Methods All resident children aged 0-5 years were included, covering all 18 districts in Shanghai. Health-check cards were prepared for SGA children. The check-up included weight,length/height and head circumference. Body mass index ( BMI) was used to evaluate the overweight and obesity according to the standard of World Health Organization ( WHO) . Results This study investigated 728 602 children aged 0-5 years in Shanghai, and ultimately 23 871 of them were defined as SGA,a-mong whom 9 805(41. 4%) were boys and 14 066(58. 9%) were girls. The BMI of SGA children were higher than that of appropriate for gestational age( AGA) from 4 to 18 months, while for the rest of the time, they were basically the same. There was no difference in changing tendency of BMI between SGA children and those AGA children. The distri-bution of overweight and obesity according to the standard of WHO in SGA boys among different ages was 7. 7% to 20. 7%, and 15. 7% in average;the distribution of SGA girls among different ages was 5. 9% to 18. 3%,and 12. 9% in average. The proportion of overweight at the age of 4-18 months was significantly higher than that of other ages. There was no correlation between overweight at 0-2 years old and overweight at the age of 5(P>0. 05). Conclusions Com-pared with SGA girls, overweight and obesity in SGA boys were more serious. The age of 4-18 months were the period of high incidence of overweight. There was no correlation between overweight at 0-2 years old and overweight at the age of 5.

Objective To investigate the effect of plasmid pEGFP- hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)-C1 on rat acute ischemia of hindlimb. Methods The eukaryotic expressed plasmid pEGFPHGF-C1 carrying human HGF cDNA was constructed. The transfection efficiency and the expression level of HGF were evaluated by transfecting pEGFP-HGF-C1 into primary rat skeletal muscle cells.Ligation-induced ischemia of femoral artery of one hindlimb in Wistar rats was performed. The plasmids (200 μg/500 μl) were injected once directly into the ischemic limb muscle (5 sites around ligation position) immediately after ligation.HGF expression was detected in the muscle tissue of rats on days 3,6 and 9 by immunochemical stain and Western blot.At day 24,the muscles were removed and stained with CD31 to assess histologically the capillary formation. Results The primary rat skeletal muscle cells could be transfected 0efficiently with pEGFP-HGF-C1 using LipofectamineTM2000 (0.8%),and secreted HGF which peak concentration was (5402.0±227.9) ng/L at 4 d.HGF expression was detected clearly in muscle tissue on days 3,6,9 in pEGFP-HGF-C1 groups.Western blot semi-quantitied analysis showed the levels of HGF expression were higher than control groups on days 3,6,9(P<0.05).A significant increase in capillary density was found in rats transfected with human HGF(10.81±2.35) as compared with sham group (6.11±0.90) and control group (5.45±0.90) at 24 d(P<0.01).Conclusions Intramuscular injection of naked human HGF plasmid may induce therapeutic angiogenesis in rat ischemic hindlimb models,as potential therapy for peripheral arterial disease.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2016;30(2):91-93
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the clinical and pathological features of solitary pterygoid benign lesions, as well as the treatment and outcome of endoscopic surgery.
METHOD:
We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of 4 patients with pterygoid benign lesions in our department. High resolution CT and enhanced MRI were performed before the operations, then endoscopic surgeries were carried out under the circumstance of general anesthesia. After a follow-up in 12 months to 48 months, nasal endoscopy and MRI examination were performed. Therefore we are able to understand the situation of operations and postoperative recurrences, and to inquire about the changes of symptoms and the relief of symptoms before and after surgery.
RESULT:
From the Pathological diagnosis, it showed 2 cases of cystic lesions, 1 case of spindle cell lipoma, 1 case of inflammatory lesion. Postoperative follow up showed scar formation, smooth surface, no recurrence, and no new symptom. Nasal obstruction is relieved after the surgery, and no changes in the sympotoms of headache were observed.
CONCLUSION
The combination of high resolution CT with enhanced MRI isimportant for ascertaining the location, extent and nature of the pterygoid lesions. Endoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective method for the treatment of solitary pterygoid benign lesions.

Chinese Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases 2010;3(2):89-92
Objective To investigate the association between polymorphism of TNFα-308 and mutations of HBV C region in patients with chronic HBV infection. Methods Ninety-five patients with chronic HBV infection were recruited in the study. The single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of TNFα-308 Was determined by restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP). Mutations of nt1762/1764, nt1896, nt1899, nt1862, as60, aa87 and as97 in HBV C region were detected by direct sequencing after PCR amplification. Mutations of the above points among different genotypes were compared by Fisher's exget test. Results Three different genotypes G/G(63/95, 66.3%), G/A(28/95, 29.5%) and A/A(4/95, 4.2%) were found in TNFα-308 site. The rates of mutations of aa87 and aa97 points in patients with G/G, G/A and A/A genotype were 39.3%(24/61), 11.5%(3/26) and 50.0% (2/4), respectively(F=7.658, P<0.05);while the mutation rates of nt1762/1764, nt1896, nt1864, nt1899 and aa60 were of no statistical significance among different genotypes(F=0.669, 1.542, 1.123, 2.420 and 0.966, P>0.05). Conclusion Compared with G/G genotype, antigenicity of HBV may be more stable in patients with TNFα-308 G/A genotype, which is beneficial to HBV clearance.
