Purpose: Three kinds of embolizing agents, sodium mirrhuate, lipiodol and gelfoam were used together in treating hemangiomas of liver, pharynx, and spleen by embolizing the arteries. Materials and methods: 35 patients with hemangiomas, 30 cases in liver, 1 in spleen, and 4 in pharynx, were treated with embolizing hepatic artery, splenic artery, maxillary arterry, and face artery, respectively. Results: Tumors decreased 20%~90% in size, and none of then had continued to grow after the treatment for 3~36 months. At the same time, the suitable dose of embolizing agent according to the size of the tumor, the injection speed, the observation of the curative effect and the precaution of the embolization were also discussed, It showed that the effect of this method was better than using only one or two kinds of embolizing agents togethes resued in only slight complications. Conclusion: We think this method is safe and effective by combined with embolizing agents in treating hemaiomas of different organs and tissues.

AIM and METHODS: To study the protective effects of liposomes containing L-Arg,Se and taurine on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Wistar rats were divided randomly into sham operated group,ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) group, pretreatment with liposomes group and treatment with liposomes at reperfusion group. In the experiments, superior mesenteric artery was clipped for 60 min, and then unclipped. 2 hours of reperfusion later, MDA content, T-SOD and Ca 2+ -Mg 2+ -ATPase activities in intestinal tissues were detected respectively, ultrastructure and bcl-2 expression in intestinal mucosa tissue were observed. RESULTS: MDA content in liposomes-treated group was less than I/R group ( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: Liposomes containing L-arginine, Se and taurine can protect intestine against ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, which may be related to inhibiting lipid peroxidation, stabilizing internal circumstances and inducing bcl-2 protein expression.

Objective To research the protective effects of totalPanax Japonicus extract on learning memory, antioxidation, and anti-apoptosis of aging mice, and explore the mechanism. Methods Male mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group, Vitamin E (VE) group, Panax Japonicus extract low and high dose group. Except for the normal group, the other groups were injected withD-gal on the back of the neck subcutaneously to establish aging model. Normal group and model group were given a gavage with saline and each treatment group was given a gavage with totalPanax Japonicus extract and VE once a day for 7 weeks after the aging model established. All mice were be measured their learning and memory ability in the eighth week. After the test, the morphological changes of CA1 neurons were observed by HE stain. SOD, GSH-Px, MDA levels in brain tissue were measured by biochemical method, the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax mRNA were evaluated by RT-PCR.Results Mice inPanax Japonicus extract low and high dose group could spend less time in searching for the platform, improve the learning and memory ability. TotalPanax Japonicus extract increased the activity of SOD and GSH-Px, while decreased the content of MDA. In addition, it could increase the expression level of Bcl-2 mRNA and reduce the expression level of Bax mRNA as well. Conclusion TotalPanax Japonicus extract has anti-aging effect.

Objective:
To explore the relationship between the time of sedentary behaviors and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among rural adults in Henan Province.
Methods:
A total of 1 227 adults from Houzhai village in Zhengzhou City and Qiaomiao village in Jiaozuo City in Henan Province were randomly selected to participate in the survey; each of them finished a questionnaire and accepted physical examination and test of biochemical indicators. The participants were divided into case and control groups according to whether suffering from T2DM. A Pearson linear correlation and linear regression model analysis were used to investigate the relevance between the time of sedentary behaviors and fasting plasma glucose (FPG); meanwhile, a multi factor logistic regression model was used to analyze the relationship between the time of sedentary behaviors and T2DM.
Results:
The average FPG level among the participants was (5.4±2.5) mmol/L, and the average time of sedentary behaviors was (234.5±156.5) min per day. The prevalence rate of T2DM in subgroups whose time of sedentary behaviors were separately 0-<2.5, 2.5-<4.5, 4.5-<6.5 and ≥6.5 h/day were 15.8% (72/457), 19.3% (73/379), 16.7% (35/210) and 20.4% (37/181), respectively. There was a linear regression relationship between the time of sedentary behaviors(

OBJECTIVETo map the disease locus for a congenital cataract family, and detect the disease-causing gene.
METHODSAn autosomal dominant congenital cataract family was genotyped by genome wide scan using 382 autosomal microsatellite markers from ABI-MD10. Two-point linkage analysis was carried out by the MLINK program.
RESULTSThe disease locus of this family was mapped at 12p11.2-q15. Sequence analysis of a candidate gene-major intrinsic protein (MIP) revealed a novel missense mutation G-->A at the nucleotide 702 in exon 4, which resulted in a substitution of arginine to lysine at codon 233 (p.R233K).
CONCLUSIONThe mutation G-->A at nt702 in MIP gene was associated with the binocular polymorphic congenital cataract in the family. This transition occurring at the C-terminus of MIP might decrease the stability of the C-end of the protein and impact the function of the protein.
