Objective To evaluate the postoperative complications and visual quality after manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) versus phacoemulsification (PHACO).Methods A systematic review of MSICS and PHACO was conducted by a computer search on Medline,Pubmed,CBM and CNKI and a supplementary manual search was also done.The effect was measured as an odds ratio (OR) and weighted mean difference (WMD).RevMan 5.0 software was used to perform the Meta-analysis.Results A total of 9 articles were included in the Meta-analysis.Naked visual acuity at 1 week after surgery (OR =0.93,95％ CI 0.68-1.27),posterior capsular ruptured after surgery (OR =1.07,95％ CI 0.73-1.58),corneal edema after surgery (OR =0.90,95 ％ CI 0.70-1.16),surgically induced astigmatism at 1 month after surgery (WMD =0.08,95％ CI-0.02-0.17) in MSICS and PHACO was no statistically significant difference (P ＞0.05).Conclusion MSICS is safe and reliable surgery as same as PHACO for the patients with cataract,MSICS is more consistent with China' s national conditions.

[Summary] Type 2 diabetic rat model accompanied by insulin resistance was established by high fat/high glucose diet and streptozotocin.Following metformin treatment for 4 weeks,realtime PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expressions of SIRT3 mRNA and protein in skeletal muscle tissue,respectively.The results showed that insulin sensitivity,superoxide dismutase (SOD),and glutathione (GSH) levels were significantly reduced in diabetic group compared with the control group (P＜0.05),while methane dicarboxylic aldehyde (MDA) level was increased (P＜0.05),along with the decreased expressions of SIRT3 mRNA and protein in skeletal muscles (P＜0.01).After metformin treatment,the insulin sensitivity,SOD,GSH,and SIRT3 mRNA and protein levels were significantly increased (P＜ 0.05 or P＜ 0.01),while MDA level was decreased (P ＜ 0.05),suggesting that metformin may ameliorate insulin resistance via upregulating SIRT3 expression in skeletal muscles of diabetic rats.

Objective To analyze Chinese oncology papers included by Chinese biomedical literature database (CBM) and science citation index (SCI),and to comprehensively and objectively reflect the current situation of Chinese oncology literatures published in domestic and international journals.Methods Chinese oncology papers were retrieved by using CBM and SCI.A comparison analysis was made from the respects of subject distribution,district distribution,organization distribution and high citation situation.Results 67 071 papers of 2012 were retrieved from CBM database,while 9226 papers were indexed by SCI.In terms of district distribution,the first three districts were Jiangsu (6707),Guangdong (4897) and Beijing (2214) in CBM database,while in SCI database,they were Beijing (2214),Shanghai (2008) and Guangdong (1393).The institute with the most amount of literature is university,respectively 9725 and 5755.Moreover,the mostly funded project is National Natural Science Foundation (4710,35.38％ ; 3290,35.68％).Conclusion The 2012 Chinese oncology literatures published in domestic journals has advantage with respect to quantity,compared with the international published journals.However,there exists a bigger difference in terms of quality.Through the comparative analysis,the medical researchers in our country will have some implications in the research orientation.

Mobile service in libraries of domestic medical colleges and universities was investigated.The specific characteristics of specialized courses offered in medical colleges and universities, the special nature of medical sub-jects, and the unique features of medical library users were described with suggestions put forward for expanding the mobile service in libraries of domestic medical colleges and universities.

Objective To compare the clinicopathological features of Borrmann type Ⅳ gastric cancer with other gastric cancer and explore prognostic factors of the patients with Borrmann type Ⅳ cancer.Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 671 advanced gastric cancer patients.They were divided into 2 groups:Borrmann type Ⅳ (64 cases) and other macroscopic Borrmann types of cancer (607 cases).Their clinicopathologic characteristics and overall survival data were analyzed.Results Age,sex,tumor size,tumor location,lymph node metastasis,distant metastasis,TNM classification were discrepant between Borrmann type Ⅳ and other macroscopic Borrmann types of cancer.The 5-year survival rate of Borrmann type Ⅳ cancer patients was 20.1％,while it was 40.3％ for other types of cancer (P ＜ 0.05).The 5-year survival rate for Borrmann type Ⅳ gastric cancer and the other type gastric cancer was 50.0％ and 72.0％ at stage Ⅰ,30.0％ and 57.9％ at stage Ⅱ,18.0％ and 28.4％ at stage Ⅲ,and 16.4％ and 20.0％ at stage Ⅳ (all P ＜ 0.05),respectively.Multivariate analyses revealed age,histology differentiation type,tumor size,the Borrmann type carcinoma and tumor stage to be independent prognostic factors for survival.Conclusions Borrmann type carcinoma has unique clinicopathological features compared with other types of gastric carcinoma and is an important independent prognostic factor.

BACKGROUND: More attention has been paid upon the injury effect resulted from the decrease of superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and increase of malonaldehyde (MDA) content in brain. Whether pig brain peptide solution can pass blood-brain barrier and penetrate into brain tissue and protect brain nerve is still found in limited cases reports. Relevant reports are still rare both in China and abroad.OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of pig brain peptide solution on SOD activity and MDA content in brain and liver of senile model mice made by D-galactose.DESIGN: Experimental animals-based randomized and controlled experimental observation.SETTING: Institute of Senile Medical of General Hospital of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The experimant was made in the Institute of Senile Medical (Chinese PLA key laboratory) of General HosPital of Chinese PLA from February to April 2001. Totally 82 NH mice, weighted from 18 to 22 g, half male and half female, were provided by the Medical Experimental Animal Center of General Hospital of Chinese PLA. These mice were randomly divided into the control group, hige dose group, middle dose group, low dose group, aniracetam group (positive control group), and D-galactose group.METHODS: Each group was given drugs seperately for 6 weeks. The senile mice model was induced by D-galactose. SOD activity of each group was checked with chemiluminescence method and MDA content examined with thiobarbituric acid colourimetry method.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: SOD activity and MDA content of mice in each group.RESULTS: Pig brain peptide solution with high and middle doses significantly increased SOD activity[ (30.23 ± 5.23), (29.65 ± 4. 88 );(19. 84 ± 5.79), (16.75 ± 5.32) μkat/g respectively], and decreased MDA content[ (630.00 04; 8(34): 7748-50CONCLUSION: Pig brain peptide solution has obvious antioxidative effect, and has certain protective effects on brain nerve cells and liver cells of senile mice.

Objective To improve the accuracy of medical students to put on and off the protective equipment with mind map joint microteaching approach teaching method. Method 90 medical students in clinical practice were randomly selected for teaching objects and divided into two groups, each group having 45 people. The control group used the traditional teaching while the experimental group was trained by mind map joint microteaching approach teaching method. And then, the examination table was conducted to each group and the assessment accuracy of the skills assessment results and excellent rates of the two groups were compared. Statistical analysis was performed by χ2 test. Results The average score of students of the experiment group in the whole set of putting on and off protective equipment and skills points assessment were higher than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant [(91.40±6.61) vs. (80.09± 6.28), P=0.001; (12.13±2.26) vs. (8.78±2.45), P=0.001]. The excellent rate of students of the experiment group in putting on and off protective equipment assessment and skills points examination was higher than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (80%vs. 35%, P=0.001;71%vs. 13%, P=0.001). Conclusion Using innovative mind map joint microteaching approach teaching method can im-prove the medical students' operating skills and excellent rate s in putting on and off the protective equip-ment, and at the same time enhance their learning interest and professional protection level.

Objective To evaluate negative lymph node count (NLNC) in prediction of prognosis of T3 gastric cancer after radical resection.Method 214 T3 patients of radical gastrectomy with complete clinical and follow-up data between Jan 2003 to Dec 2007 were enrolled.Survival was determined by the Kaplan-Metier method and univariate analysis was done by Log-rank test,Multivariate analysis was performed using the COX proportional hazard regression model.-2loglikelihood value and the hazard ratio (HR) value were used to compared the value of number of lymph node-negative (NLNC) staging and pN staging and lymph node metastasis rate (MLR) in gastric cancer prognosis evaluation.Results Univariate analysis showed that,pN stage (x2 =31.664),MLR stage (x2 =34.123),tumor size (x2 =5.025),type of differentiation (x2 =5.993),Borrmann classification (x2 =5.401),NLNC stage (x2 =37.256) were related to survival (P ＜ 0.05).COX multivariate analysis showed that-2loglikelihood of pN staging is 1 336.761,HR value is 1.464,-2loglikelihood value of MRL staging is 1 335.821,HR value is 1.441.-2loglikelihood value of NLNC staging is 1 326.902,HR value is 1.725.The N0 and N1 staging prognosis in different NLNC staging was significant (P =0.008,P =0.014).Conclusions Sufficient number of negative lymph node prolongs survival and reduces the risk of early recurrence in advanced gastric cancer.
