One hundred and sixteen cases of vertebral artery type of cervical spondylopathy were treated by electroacupuncture on Fengchi (GB 20) and Jiaji (Ex-B 2, C2-5), cupping plus manipulation of pulling the rotated neck. The result showed 89 cases were cured, 21 cases were improved and 6 cases failed with the total effective rate of 94.8%.

BACKGROUND:A variety of embryonic stem cells induction and differentiation systems have been established so far, while the research that promotes embryonic stem cells to differentiate into hematopoietic stem cells is stil at an initial stage, and the induction efficiency needs to be improved.
OBJECTIVE:To active the Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway in mouse embryonic stem cells with exogenous win3a as an inducer, and then to observe whether the activation of this pathway wil promote the directional differentiation of embryonic stem cells into hematopoietic progenitor cells.
METHODS:The ES-E14TG2a mouse stem cells were cultured with the exogenous wnt3a (100 μg/L) for 21 days, the content ofβ-catenin was tested by cellimmunofluorescence and western blot, and expression of Wnt downstream target gene was detected by quantitative reverse transcription PCR to determine the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway. Single-layer adherent culture method was used to induce the directional differentiate of above-mentioned cells into hematopoietic stem cells, and detection of hematopoietic development associated surface marker CD34+/Sca-1+was achieved by flow cytometry;meanwhile, the expression of hematopoietic associated gene was measured by quantitative reverse transcription PCR.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:We found thatβ-catenin accumulated in ES-E14TG2a mouse stem cells after cultured with wnt3a (100 μg/L) for 21 days;the expressions of Wnt downstream target genes such as Pitx2, Frizzled, Sox17 and Oct4 showed the different degrees in increase, meaning the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway. Furthermore, during the time that we used single-layer adherent culture method to induce hematopoietic stem cells, the CD34+/Sca-1+cells accounted for 20.2%of total cells at day 14, and control cells only accounted for 11.9%. Again, expression quantity of hematopoietic associated gene BMP4, FLK2 and CD34 increased while Smad5 was suppressed significantly. Our data suggest that sustaining action by wnt3a wil active Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway, and also promote the directional differentiation of ES-E14TG2a mouse stem cells into hematopoietic progenitor cells.

Objective To understand treatment outcomes of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes aged over 30 years in Jiangninglu Neighborhood of downtown Shanghai. Methods Total 642 patients diagnosed as type 2 diabetes aged over 30 were investigated by cluster sampling in Jiangninglu Neighborhood of downtown Shanghai. Status of optimal control of diabetes in them was analyzed based on the recommendations proposed by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) for Western Pacific Region. Results and serum level of glycosylated hemoglobin Alc (HbAlc) of less than 6.5% was achieved in 37.5% (241/were achieved in 23.8% (153/642) and 18.1% (116/642) of them, respectively, and beth systolic and mmol/L was achieved in 21.7% (139/642) of all the participants investigated, triglyceride of less than 1.5 mmol/L in 46.6% (299/642), low-deusity lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) of less than 2.5 mmol/L in 23.7% (152/642) and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol of greater than 1.1 mmol/L in 62.1% (399/of their blood glucose, blood pressure and serum LDL-C (defined as HbAlc less than 6.5%, blood pressure less than 130/80 mm Hg and LDL-C less than 2.5 retool/L). Conclusions Only 2.6% of all the patients diagnosed with diabetes aged over 30 in downtown Shanghai get optimal control of their blood glucose, blood pressure and serum lipid, so comprehensive prevention and control for diabetes shall be strengthened for them at community-level of urban areas.

Objective To elucidate the genetic base of psoriasis for Chinese patients, the positional candidate loci (D6S273?D6S276?D6S422?D6S299?D6S291?D4S1535?D4S1652?D4S171)previously reported in the regions 6p21.3 and 4q were studied in some carefully examined psoriatic families in order to establish whether the eight reported microsatellites loci(STRs) underlay susceptibility to psoriasis in different populations. Methods Two hundred and five probands with psoriasis vulgaris were identified from outpatients attending the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Genotypes were generated at 8 polymorphic loci on chromosome 6p21 and 4q in 14 pedigrees. The results were analyzed parametrically by linkage 5.0 software. Results There was evidence for linkage to D6S273 in 6p21.3 (the LOD score was 1.26) . No evidence for linkage was obtained at other loci including three loci on chromosome 4q. Conclusions This study confirms the presence of a psoriasis susceptibility locus on chromosome 6p previously studied. It is shown that there may be psoriasis susceptibility locus D6S273 on chromosome 6p21.3 in the Chinese population.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation between benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and bone mineral density (BMD) in menopausal women with BPPV.METHODS 50 patients between the ages of 50-80 years old of menopausal women with Idiopathic benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(iBPPV)as case group,and postmenopausal healthy people of same age doing physical examinations in hospital medical examination center were selected as control group.The lumbar spine(L1-L4) and femoral neck were measured respectively using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry and expressed in T value.The case group and the control group were divided into three age groups,and the T values of three age groups were statistically analyzed.RESULTS There was significant correlation between the case group and control group(The t values are-3.68、-5.98 and-3.33,respectively,P＜0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between iBPPV and bone mineral density(BMD) (r=-0.496,P＜0.05).CONCLUSION There was a correlation between benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and BMD in menopausal women.The results of this study may be helpful for the diagnosis,treatment,prognosis and precaution of iBPPV.

Objective:To investigate the association between exposure to major air pollutants (including PM 2.5, PM 10, NO 2, SO 2, O 3 and CO) and 28-day all-cause mortality in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods:The electronic medical records of critically ill patients admitted to the ICU in Hubei Province General Hospital and Jingzhou Central Hospital were collected from August 2018 to August 2019 and from May 2021 to May 2022. Patients' exposure to air pollutants was assessed based on the average concentrations at their place of residence during the previous two months. A generalized linear regression model was used to estimate the association between air pollutant exposure and 28-day all-cause mortality in critically ill patients. Subgroup analysis was then conducted to examine the impact of individual air pollutant exposure on 28-day mortality, which served as the primary outcome in this study. The effect size and confidence interval were adjusted for patient characteristics including age, gender, smoking or drinking habits, length of hospital stay, and SOFA score. Additionally, mediation analysis was conducted using the mediation package (Bruce R) in R software. The direct effect represented the association between exposure to air pollutants and risk of mortality, while the indirect effect aimed to assess whether neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte- lymphocyte ratio (MLR) served as mediating variables in the correlation between exposure to air pollutants and mortality risk.Results:The study included a total of 3 772 critically ill patients admitted to the ICU, with a 28-day all-cause mortality rate of 40.0% (1 509/3 772). A significant positive correlation was observed between an incremental increase of 1 μg/m 3 in air pollutants (specifically PM 2.5, NO 2 and CO) and an elevated risk of mortality within 28 days among critically ill patients. Conversely, there is an inverse relationship between O 3 levels and mortality risk. Additionally, male gender and SOFA rating >3 scores were identified as independent risk factors for all-cause mortality in ICU patients exposed to NO 2 or CO. The Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) played a mediating role in the correlation between PM 2.5 or CO exposure and mortality risk, accounting for 9.09% or 4.71% of the correlations, respectively. Conclusions:The exposure to air pollutants (PM 2.5, NO 2, CO) significantly associate with a high risk of 28-day all-cause mortality in ICU patients. Even at low levels of air pollution, NO 2, CO remains positively correlate with the mortality risk in critically ill patients, who belong to a vulnerable population.
