Objective To explore visual-spatial working memory deficits of patients with basal ganglia damage, based on which tried to provide the new method for detecting the injuries in basal ganglia. Methods Twenty-five patients with lesions in the basal ganglia and twenty-five healthy controls performed visual-spatial working memory tasks, including a face-recognition and a spatial delayed-response. Results For the basal ganglia damage group ,the correct rate of both visual- face ( 54.5 ± 9.6 ) % and visual-spatial ( 80.0 ± 11.7 ) % working memory tasks was significantly lower than that of the control group ( ( 64.3 ± 9.5 ) %, ( 93.6 ± 4.9) %, respectively) ,and the difference was statistically significant ( u= - 147.5,80.5, P<0. 01 ). For the patients injured in the left basal ganglia, the correct rate of visual- face working memory (48.5 ± 5.4 )% was obviously lower than that of patients injured in the right basal ganglia ( 59.2 ± 9.8 ) %, and the difference was statistically significant ( u =25.5, P<0. 01 ) ;but the difference of correct rate for the visual-space working memory was not statistically significant( u = 52.5, P> 0.05 ). In contrast to the controls, both the visual-face and visual-space working memory of the group with injuries in basal ganglia, had appeared to be disable. Conclusions The results confirmed that patients with lesions in basal ganglia had deficits of visual-spatial working memory, and that injuries either in the left or the right basal ganglia can probably cause the shiftiness of cognitive function. Therefore, the injuries in basal ganglia can be detected by the visual-spatial working memory tests.

Objective: Surfactant protein A (SP-A) is protein that appears to play an important role in mammalian first-line host defense. The objective of this study was to immunolocalize SP-A in human sinonasal tissue. Method:Eleven cases of allergic rhinitis, fifteen cases of polyp and seven cases of normal middle turbinate were studied with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence method to detect the expression of SP-A. Result:The expression of SP-A in allergic rhinitis and polyp were dramatically higher than that in controls(P<0.05), and there was no remarkable difference in the expression of SP-A between allergic rhinitis and polyp(P>0.05). The result demonstrated that SP-A was positivly correlated with eosinophils within the basement membrane of epitheli-um(R=0.81,0.55). In the result of immunofluorescence, there was significantly higher expression SP-A in nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis and nasal polyp than that in control group(P<0.05). Conclusion:SP-A is likely to play key roles in the inflammatory reaction process of allergic rhinitis and polyp. Its secretion in the upper airway indicates that future studies may allow manipulation of this protein and development of novel treatments for sinonasal pathology.

OBJECTIVE To study the significance by analyzing the expression of human protection of telomeres1(POT1)and telomeric repeatbinding factor-2(TRF2)in the tissues of laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC)and in polyp of vocal cord tissues. METHODS The expression of POT1 and TRF2 in 20 tumor samples and 19 polyp of vocal cord were determined by the indirect immunofluorescence method. The results were scored and analyzed statistically. RESULTS The positive expression rates of POT1 and TRF2 in tumor samples was 65.00% and 70.00% respectively. There were no positive expression of POT1 and TRF2 in polyp of vocal cord. The positive expression of POT1 was higher in poorly differentiated laryngeal carcinoma than that in well-differentiated and moderately differentiated laryngeal carcinoma(Chi-square test with contingency table, P0.05). CONCLUSION The expression of POT1 and TRF2 in laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma were remarkable, POT1 and TRF2 may play a critical role in tumorigenesis of laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma. There was statistical significant difference for degrees of POT1 expression in different tumor histological grades.

We pretreated sawdust (Castanopsis fissa Rehd.et Wils) by solid state fermentation (SSF) with Phanerochaete chrysosporium, and then compressed it into pellets with the moisture content of 15% and the pressure of 98 MPa, to solve the problem of low density, low Meyer hardness, high water uptake, and short storage period of pellet in the woody pellet industry. We studied the effects of fermentation time on pelletization and pellets's characteristics (including energy consumption, density, Meyer hardness, and hydrophobicity). SSF affected the heating values of pellet. Compared with fresh sawdust, SSF consumed more energy at the maximal value by 6.98% but saved extrusion energy by 32.19% at the maximum. Meanwhile, SSF could improve the density, Meyer hardness and hydrophobicity of pellet. Pellet made of sawdust pretreated by SSF for 48 d had best quality, beneficial for long-term transportation and storage of pellets.
