Objective:To identify potential risk factors of suicide among schizophrenic inpatients,in order to provide basis of how to prevent suicide in psychiatric inpatients.Method:A retrospective analysis among inpatients with mental disorders in Guangzhou psychiatric hospital from 1956 to 2005,the first psychiatric hospital,in China.Using a case-control design,sixty four schizophrenic inpatients(suicide group) who committed suicide in psychiatric hospital and the same number of randomly selected control subjects(control group) who had no incident of suicide were selected and their psychiatric records were compared.Results:The rate of suicide was 133.1(95% CI 103.4-62.9) per 100 000 admissions.Sixty four cases(83.1%) were diagnosed as schizophrenia,fifty nine(76.6%) were hung by themselves,and fifty two(67.5%) happened in wards.The numbers of hospitalization and the suicide attempts before and duration of hospitalization were significantly higher in suicide group than that in control group(P=0.001,0.017,0.003),and guilty thoughts,depressive mood were significantly higher in suicide group than that in control group(P=0.006,0.004).Both suicidal ideation and suicide attempts one month before and during hospitalization were significantly higher in suicide group than that in control group(P

OBJECTIVE To study clinical application technique of skin soft tissue expansion in auricular reconstruction.METHODS 502 patients (517 ears)were selected for skin soft tissue expansion. Skin expander was implanted and liquid injected routinely to expand skin to obtain excessive skin for auricular reconstruction.RESULTS Of 502 patients (517 ears),10 patients(10 ears) had complicated skin hematoma formation which had been cleaned out successfully;12 patients(12 ears) had complicated skin expander uncover,skin expander was taken out and reposted 4 months later in 7 patients(7 ears) without affecting opertative effect;No infection was found and all patients obtain satisfactory effect. CONCLUSION Skillful and normative operation is the key for preventing complication.Fibre layer must be got rid of during operation.Skin expander auricular reconstruction has the advantage of obvious concave and protruding figure as well as satisfactory cubical sense.It is the perfect method for treating ear malformation at present.

Objective To evaluate the relationship between dyslipidemia and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), with which as a theory base and proof we may further study about the mechanism of atherosclerosis (AS) leading to AAA. Methods Thirty abdominal aortic aneurysm patients in Guangdong General Hospital from 2013 to 2014 were enrolled into the experimental group and 26 healthy people into the control group. The serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), lipoprotein a (Lpa), nonestesterified fatty acid (NEFA), homocysteine (HCY), apolipoprotein A (ApoA) and apolipoprotein B(ApoB)were tested in the study. The statistical significance of the difference of them was examined by the independent two-sample t-test. Result The serum TG and HCY level in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The serum ApoA and HDL level in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The serum levels of TC, LDL, Lpa, NEFA and Apo B had no significant difference in both groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion The serum levels of TG and HCY are increased and the levels of Apo A and HDL are decreased in patients with AAA.

[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo investigate the expressions of Endoglin (CD105) and Galectin-3 protein in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) as well as the relationship between their expressions and the clinicopathological factors of LSCC.METHODSThe expressions of CD105 and Galectin-3 protein were detected in 76 samples of LSCC and 25 normal laryngeal tissues (NLT) by immunohistochemical staining (S-P).RESULTS 1.The mean of Microvessel density (MVD) value marked by CD105 in LSCC was 10.33±2.29, which was significantly higher than that in NLT (1.20±1.04) (P<0.05). The expression of MVD marked by CD105 (CD105-MVD) was correlated with histological grading, T stage, clinical stage, lymph node metastasis, recurrence and prognosis in LSCC (P<0.05). 2.The positive expression rate of Galectin-3 protein in LSCC was 86.84%, which was significantly higher than that in NLT (36%)(P<0.05). The expression of Galectin-3 was correlated with T stage,clinical stage, lymph node metastasis, recurrence and prognosis in LSCC (P<0.05). 3.There was a positive correlation between CD105 and Galectin-3 protein. 4.Survival analysis indicated that the expressions of CD105 and Galectin-3, histological grading, lymph node metastasis,T stage and recurrence were independent factors for tumor prognosis in LSCC (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONThe expressions of CD105 and Galectin-3 protein have a positive correlation in LSCC. They may play important roles in the tumorigenesis, malignant progression and poor prognosis of LSCC. Combined detection of them may be great value in diagnosis and predicting prognosis of LSCC.

Objective To evaluate the association between interleukin-10(IL-10 )polymorphisms and endometriosis suscepti-bility by meta-analysis.Methods Computer retrieval Pubmed,Embase,Chinese HowNet,Chinese biomedical and Wanfang database.Published data relating to case-control studies reporting the link between IL-10 polymorph-isms and endometriosis were retrieved.Meta-analysis was conducted to determine whether the IL-10 gene polymorphisms were associated with endo-metriosis.Results Six studies were finally accepted for analysis.There were five studies focused on-819T/C polymorphism and six studies focused on-592A/C polymorphism.The odds ratio of each genetype for endometriosis:TT/CC,TC/CC,AA/CC and AC/CC were 0.90(0.81~0.99),P<0.05;0.92(0.82~1.02),P>0.05;0.92(0.79~1.07),P>0.05;0.98(0.90~1.06),P>0.05.No significant publication bias was found regarding TT/CC,TC/CC,AA/CC and AC/CC genotypes(P=0.81,0.81,0.71,0.26).Conclusion IL-10 gene-819TT genotypes may be a protetive factor of endometriosis.There was no related to show that other genotypes in position-819 and-592 were associated with endometriosis.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the influence of sublingual immunotherapy on Th2 type immunoreaction in patients with allergic rhinitis within 12 months' treatment. METHOD: Forty three patients with allergic rhinitis were followed-up within 12 months after receiving sublingual immunotherapy. The changes of clinic symptoms and immunoreaction were analyzed. VAS score was applied to evaluate the efficacy of clinic treatment. TIgE and sIgE in serum were tested to evaluate the systemic immunoreaction. Eosinophil counting in nasal discharge was applied to evaluate the local nasal mucosa immunoreaction. RESULT: VAS scores were decreased significantly one month after the starting point of treatment, companied by the decrease of EOS count in nasal discharge (P < 0.05). The changes of TIgE and sIgE in serum within 12 months of sublingual immunotherapy were not significant (P < 0.05). The levels of IL-4 and IL-13 in nasal lavage were decreased significantly after 12 months' treatment. CONCLUSION The bias of Th2 type immunoreaction existed in nasal mucosa immune system in patients with allergic rhinitis could been rectified partially after receiving sublingual immunotherapy for 12 months, but the significant changes were not observed in systemic immune system.

OBJECTIVETo assess bone health in epileptic children who have been treated with topiramate (TPM) or carbamazepine (CBZ).

METHODSSixty-three epileptic children who received TPM or CBZ treatment and 36 eileptic children who did not receive any drug treatment (control group) were enrolled. Bone mineral density (BMD) at lumbar vertebrae (L1-L4) and radius-ulna was evaluated by the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry method. Biochemical indices of bone metabolism, including serum calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase contents were measured.

RESULTSThe serum calcium content was higher in the TPM group (2.41+/-0.17 mmol/L), but it was lower in the CBZ group (2.15+/-0.26 mmol/L) than that (2.26+/-0.11 mmol/L) in the control group (p<0.05). The serum phosphorus content in both the TPM (1.55+/-0.17 mmol/L) and the CBZ groups (1.52+/-0.26 mmol/L) was significantly lower than that in the control group (1.70+/-0.30 mmol/L) (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in the serum content of alkaline phosphatase between three groups. BMD was significantly reduced in both the TPM and the CBZ groups when compared to the control group (p<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSTPM and CBZ may result in alterations in serum contents of calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase as well as BMD reduction.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of gene silencing of Bmi-1 on proliferation regulation of CD44+ nasopharyngeal carcinoma cancer stem-like cells (CSC-LCs). METHOD: The sequence-specific short hairpin RNA lentivirus targeting at human Bmi-1 gene (LV-Bmi-1shRNA) was constructed and was used to infect CD44+ nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells which were sorted by flow cytometry. A lentiviral which included a random sequence was also designed to serve as a negative control. We employed fluorescence microscope and flow cytometry to detect infection efficiency; real-time PCR was used to detect Bmi-1 and its downstream gene while each protein expression level was confirmed by western blotting protocol; CCK-8 proliferation assay was applied to measure proliferation capacity; tumor spheroid assay was used to evaluate the self-renewal capacity. Colony formation assay was used to measure cell colony formation capability; flow cytometry analyzed cell cycle distribution. RESULT: The constructed LV-Bmi-1shRNA successfully infected into the CD44+ nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells. The infection efficiency could reach above 95%; LV-Bmi-lshRNA effectively inhibited Bmi-1 mRNA and protein expression, while the downstream gene p16INK4a and p14ARF mRNA as well as protein expression level were upregulated (P < 0.05). Notablely, the proliferation, colony formation, self-renewal capabilities of the experimental group decreased significantly (P < 0.05). In addition, the cell cycle arrested at the G0-G1 phase. CONCLUSION Gene silencing of Bmi-1 inhibited the proliferation, colony formation and self-renewal capabilities of the CD44+ nasopharyngeal carcinoma CSC-LCs, inhibited the cell cycle processes, which may mediate through Bmi1-p16INK4a/p14ARF-p53 pathway. Our experimental results indicated that Bmi-1 gene may play an important role in the maintenance of the stem cell-like characteristics of CD44+ nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells. Bmi-1 gene may be a potential new target for the treatment of nasopharyng al carcinoma in the future.
