Objective To study the protective effect of lycopene on vascular endothelial cell injury by cigarette smoke extract ( CSE) . Methods CSE was prepared and the human umbilical vein endothelial cells ( HUVECs) were assigned into four groups, cells in control were untreated, and cells in other three groups were treated by 10%CSE, 10%CSE+1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene and 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene, respectively. Cell viability was evaluated using MTT assay. The intracelluar reactive oxygen species ( ROS) level was detected by ROS assay kits. Cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed by flow cytometry. SIRT1 expression was detected by real-time fluorescence quantification PCR ( qRT-PCR) and Western blot. Results Cell viability in 10%CSE group, 10%CSE+1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene or 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group was (56. 7±5. 1)%,(75. 6±7. 1)% and (95. 5± 9. 7)%, respectively. ROS assay showed that the relative fluorescence intensity in the control was 25. 3±3. 9, however, in 10%CSE group, 10%CSE+1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group or 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group were 67. 3±4. 6, 45. 3±3. 9 and 20. 8±2. 9, respectively. 10%CSE could induce G2 arrested and which could be antagonized by 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene. The apoptosis rate in the control, 10%CSE group, 10%CSE+1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group or 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group was (6. 2±0. 5)%,
(30.8±4.3)%, (18. 3±1. 9)% and (7. 6±0. 4)%, respectively. As shown in qRT-PCT testing, compared with the control, mRNA of SIRT1 in 10%CSE group, 10%CSE+1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group and 1. 0 μmol·L-1 lycopene group was (0. 51± 0. 03) fold, (0. 84±0. 05) fold, and (1. 31±0. 08) fold compared to the control, the data from western blot were consistent with qRT-PCR results. Conclusion Lycopene can prevent HUVECs from injury induced by CSE by upregulation of SIRT1.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the distribution characteristics and antibiotic resistance of clinically isolated pathogenic bacteria in our hospital.METHODS: The pathogenic bacteria isolated from July 2005 to June 2007 were analyzed in respect of the distribution characteristics of bacteria and antibiotic resistance.RESULTS: Phlegm and blood samples showed the highest isolating rates of bacteria, predominantly the Gram-positive cocci. The detection rates of the multidrug resistant bacteria such as MRSA,Meticillin-resistant CN-S,ESBLs-producing escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumonia showed an uptrend, and some of the antibacterials were found to be highly resistant to antibiotics.CONCLUSION: It is imperative to tighten monitoring on pathogenic bacteria distribution and antibiotic resistance of clinically isolated pathogenic bacteria and strengthen the rational and standard use of antibiotics.

Objective To investigate the role of NFIC on the stimulation effects of cAMP-induced differentiation of stem cells from the apical papilla ( SCAPs) in vitro. Methods SCAPs isolated from dental papilla of human imma-ture third molars were cultured by enzyme digestion. SCAPs were transfected with lentivirus that overexpressed NF-IC gene ( ov-NFIC) or an empty vector ( LV-empty) and co-treatment with Forskolin. Mineralized nodule formation of each group was measured by alizarin red staining. Quantitative real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction was performed to test the expressions of RUNX2,ALP,OCN mRNA. Results Forskolin increased the ex-pression of Runx2, ALP, OCN mRNA as well as matrix mineralization in SCAPs, and the stimulation effects of For-skolin were enhanced by overexpressing NFIC gene. Conclusion The results indicate that NFIC can promote cAMP-induced differentiation of SCAPs.

Objective To analyse MRI findings of multicentric craniopharyngioma and improve knowledge to it. Methods MRI and Gd-DTPA enhanced SE T 1WI scaning were performed in 4 cases of multicentric craniopharyngioma proved by surgery and pathology before operation, PDWI scaning were performed in 2 cases. Results MRI manifestations of multicentric Craniopharyngioma is the tumors of Parenchymal -predominant mixed in the sella turcica region or Suprasellar region as the center focus in 4 cases, and different cystic focus were also found in the di-temporal lobe, the basis of anterior cranium fossa, the anterior part of third ventricle, the pontine cistern, the caudate nucleus.Cystic-Parenchymal focus has low-iso mixed signal on T 1WI and high-low mixed signal on T 2WI;cystic focus of the tumors had different signal, signal ranges form low up to high on T 1WI,while high signal on T 2WI and from iso-signal to high on PDWI. After Gd-DTPA enhanced, annular wall enhancement were seen on cystic focus,Parenchymal focus appeared as uniform enhancement. Conclusion The multicentric craniopharyngioma growth performance is multi-origination growth with the sella turcica region or suprasellar region center, the MRI signal specialty of craniopharyngioma is related to ratio of cystic-consolidated and the contents of the cystic fluid.

Objective To investigate the expression and its clinical significance of adisintegrin and metalloprotease-17 (ADAM17) in human glioma. Methods The expressions of ADAM17 in human glioma were detected by immunohistochemical staining. The correlation between ADAM17 expression and the malignance of glioma was analyzed. Results Expression of ADAM17 in human gliomas increased. With the malignant degree,ADAM17 expression has also further increased. However, there was a less ADAM17 expression in normal human brain. The positive expression of ADAM17 in low malignant group was 75% (18/24),of which 1 case were strong positive. The strong positive expression of ADAM17 was the majority (82.1%,23/28) in malignant group. Conclusion The expression of ADAM-17 was higher in human brain gliomas. With malignance degree increased,of the ADAM-17 expression has gradually increased, suggesting that ADAM-17 might play a certain role in the occurrence and development of glioma.

Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 1986;0(04):-
The expression of estrogen receptor (ER) in thymus of female BALB/c mice at different ages was investigated. The results showed that the expression of ER in thymus was increased from 1 to 8 weeks after birth. ER positive cells were thymic epithelial cells and thymocytes. ER existed not only in the cytoplasm, but also in the nucleus.

Objective To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Methods A total of 50 patients with obstructive sleep apnea were divided into 2 groups: a dexmedetomidine group and a control group. Dexmedetomidine and 0.9% saline solution were given before and during the operation in the dexmedetomidine group and the control group respectively. MMSE scores were estimated at different time, and the concentration of serum S100β and NSE were detected before anesthesia at 3 h, 6 h, 24 h and 48 h after operation. Results One day after surgery, MMES score decreased significantly in both groups,of which MMES was notably higher in the DEX group than that in the control group (P<0.05). In both groups, S100βand NSE levels were significantly higher at T2, T3 and T4 than those at T1, and were the highest at T3 (P<0.05). S100β and NSE levels were significantly lower in the DEX group than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Dexmedetomidine can reduce the incidence of POCD in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Its mechanism may relate to neuroprotection.
