BACKGROUND:One-legged standing with eyes closed is a method to test the muscle strength and the ability of body balance, it is considered to be an important quality indicator for evaluation of adults and elderly balancing
capability in our country. A lot of works have been done in many provinces and cities, but there is a lack of in-depth studies.
OBJECTIVE:To review the research progress of one-legged standing with eyes closed, to analyze its problem used in the physical fitness test and to prospect the future direction of the related researches.
METHODS:A computer-based search on CNKI database and Elsevier database was undertaken to identify the article of balance capacity. The key words were“eyes closed and single legged standing, balance ability,
physical fitness test”. Total y articles were searched and checked primarily, and those meeting the criteria were looked up.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The standard of one-legged standing with eyes closed for the male is higher
than that for the female. Some elderly just stand for a short time in the test, and thus it is difficult to distinguish the balance ability. Elderly balance is significantly lower than that in young people. The same test method for adults and elderly people is employed, but whether it is scientific or not should be further studied. Various indicators in the test of one-legged standing with eyes closed have low correlation. For the above reasons, further studies
should be made before the test of one-legged standing with eyes closed becomes a valuable measurement of the balance ability in the national physique.

Objective To investigate the lipid profiles of patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) and to analyze the correlation between abnormal serum lipids and the inflammationsof SS. Methods One hundred and fourteen pSS patients and 20 gendermatehed healthy controls were studied. Serum lipids were measured in both groups. Results There was statistically significant difference between SS and healthy controls, and the serum HDL-c and apoA<,1 concentrations were significantly lower in patients (P<0.05). The incidence of abnormal serum lipids was 39.5% in these patients. Patients with abnormal lipids had longer course of disease, higher ESR level, lower salivary flow rate and more frequent parotid gland enlargement than those without abnormal lipids(P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed statistically significant association between serum lipids levels and occurrence of parotid gland enlargement. Conclusion Findings from this study suggest that patients with SS have altered lipid profiles and the decrease of apoA, and HDL-c levels may be the correlated factors of SS. The inflammation of SS may cause changes in lipids metabolisms.

Objective To examine the impact of adolescent obesity on circulating visfatin levels, and to analyze the relationship between visfatin and anthropometric indices, insulin sensitivity, and blood lipids in Chinese adolescents (11-18 years). Methods Serum visfatin, adiponectin and lepfin were measured by RIA in 76 nonobese and 72 obese adolescents, and their total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density hpoprotein cholesterol were analyzed with enzymatic methods. OGTT was performed according to the World Health Organization standard procedure in obese adolescents, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), insulin sensitivity index (ISI) and early insulin secretion index (EISI) were calculated. Results The serum visfatin level was significantly higher in obese subjects than in non-obese subjects [(37.65±18.28 vs 29.35±12.10) μg/L, P<0.01]. There were no significant correlations between the serum visfatin concentration and the anthropometrie indices or the lipid parameters in the non-obese group. However, visfatin levels were negatively correlated with age, Tanner stage and EISI, and positively correlated with HDL-C in the obese adolescents. These relationships, except that for EISI and Tanner stage, remained significant (P<0.05) after adjustment for age, gender, and body mass index. Moreover, unlike adiponectin and leptin, visfatin concentration was not correlated with testosterone in non-obese and obese boys. Conclusion Visfatin levels decrease with age and may be related to the HDL-C metabohsm in Chinese obese adolescents.
