Journal of Practical Radiology 2001;0(05):-
Objective To evaluate the applied value of bedside chest radiography in the intensive care unit ( ICU ) . Methods One hundred and ninety-three cases with 507 chest radiographs (CXRs) in the ICU were analysed retrospectively. The appearances of cardiopulmonary abnormalities were analysed. Results 97.4% of the CXRs were satisfied for diagnosis. 83.9% of the CXRs showed cardiopulmonary abnormalities, including atelectasis, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, ARDS, pneumothorax, mediastinal and subcataneous emphysema, pleural effusion, pericardial effusion and pulmonary thromboembolism, and 6.2% out of these positive cases was discovered accidentally. The chest radiograph has moderate accuracy (77.9%) in visualizing cardiopulmonary abnormalities at the initial CXR including atelectasis, pneumonia, pulmonary edema and pleural effusion. Misdiagnosis occurred mainly on the patients with a small quantity of pneumothorax and pulmonary thromboembolism. About one-third cases of cardiogenic edema and ARDS were indistinguishable. Conclusion Bedside chest radiographs are of significant value for the patients in the ICU.

Journal of Practical Radiology 2001;0(10):-
Objective To assess the contribution of the portable chest computed radiography (CR) in evaluation of monitoring devices of the patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods One hundred and sixty-two cases with 387 chest radiographs in the ICU were analysed retrospectively. The location of the catheters of monitoring devices and complications were observed. Results The malposition of the catheters was detected in 47 cases(16.9%),including the endotracheal (ET) tubes too deep at the position, the central venous catheters placed into the internal jugular veins, and the position of the thoracic drain tubes to be deep not enough causing the drain to fall. The complications after operation of monitoring devices were not common, including pneumothorax caused by ventilatory assistance, atelectasis and pneumonia caused by malposition of the ET tubes, totally in 11 cases.10 cases with cardiopulmonary abnormalities were discovered accidentally in all 162 cases(6.2%) when evaluation of monitoring devices. Conclusion Bedside chest CR not only can show the catheter position and the complications of the monitoring devices ,but also the cardiopulmonary abnormalities of patients in the ICU.

BACKGROUND:An amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregation in the brain can induce nerve cel apoptosis, loss of synapses and functional damage. However, there is stil no effective intervention. Improving the synaptic plasticity provides an important direction for the treatment of early Alzheimer’s disease. OBJECTIVE: To screen the best model of Alzheimer’s disease and to explore the expression of synapse-associated proteins in Aβ25-35-injured PC12 neurons. METHODS:PC12 cels were induced by 50 μg/L nerve growth factor to differentiate into neuronal-like cels. Then, these cels were treated with Aβ25-35 at different concentrations. Consequently, cel survival rate was detected using cel counting kit-8; neurogranin and neuregulin immunofluorescence stainings were used to observe morphological changes of model cels; western blot used to detect the expression level of neurogranin, calmodulin kinase II, postsynaptic density-95 proteins. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Over time, the survival rate of PC12 neurons induced by Aβ25-35 was decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Shortened synaptic length, neuronal atrophy and sparsely interconnected neurons were visible. Expression levels of neurogranin, calmodulin kinase II and postsynaptic density-95 proteins were al down-regulated. These findings indicate that to screen the cel model of Alzheimer’s disease, the optimal concentration and interventional time of Aβ25-35are 10 μmol/L and 48 hours, respectively.

Chinese Journal of Radiation Oncology 1992;0(04):-
Objective To evaluate the clinical characteristics, treatment, outcome and complications of child and adolescent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods From January 1970 to April 1997, the records of 145 NPC patients younger than 21 years of age were reviewed. The clinical stages according to 92'Chinese NPC Staging System were :stageⅠin 1, Ⅱin 8, Ⅲ in 79 and Ⅳ in 57. All patients were treated with external beam radiotherapy. Before 1988, parallel opposed lateral pre-auricular portals were chiefly used in 75 patients and after 1988, parallel opposed lateral facio-cervical portals were adopted in 70. The radiation dose to the primary tumor ranged 45-80?Gy: 70?Gy in 50 cases and 32 of them also received chemotherapy. Results Distant metastasis developed in 26 cases, while local and/or regional recurrence in 14. The actuarial overall survival rates of 1-, 3-, 5, and 10-years were 96.3%, 79.9%, 76.5% and 69.4%, respectively. Among 45 dead cases, 16 did so of metastasis, 11 of local and/or regional recurrence and 18 of other reasons. Univariate analysis suggested that clinical stage, size and site of involved lymph nodes, skull base involvement were significant prognostic factors of survival, whereas sex、age、dose、therapeutic method and chemotherapy were not. Conclusions 1. Even though the majority of pediatric and adolescent NPC were advanced, it signifies a relatively good survival. 2. As the normal tissue of pediatric and adolescent patients tolerates radiation poorly, prudence should be meticulously practiced in deciding the radiation dose and radiotherapeutic fields.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 2001;8(1):25-27
Objectives:To investigate the effect of glutamine on the shape of residual intestine and colon in rats with short bowel syndrome. Methods:23 male Sprague-Dawley rats, underwent a 80% small bowel resection, were randomly divided into three groups:food group(n=8) rats, fed rat chow and water libitum after operation;TPN group(n=8),infused with Gln-supplied TPN;and normal control group. On seventh day after operation, rats were weighted and remaining jejunum、remaining ileum and colon were harvested for histological observation(light microscopy and electron microscopy). Results:There was significant difference in rat average weight between food group and Gln group after operation.Jejunal mucosal villus height(VH) and mucosal thickness(MT) and ileal mucosal VH in food group were significantly increased than those in control group.Jejunal mucosal VH and MT in control group were significantly higher than in TPN group.Ileal mucosal crypt depth(CD) and MT in control group were also significantly higher than in TPN group.Jejunal and ileal mucosal VH、CD and MT in Gln group were significantly higher than in TPN group.Colonic MT in food group was significantly higher than in control group.Colonic MT in Gln group was significantly bigger than in TPN group. Conclusions:After 80% intestinal resection, the remaining intestine can develop the adaptation, but the adaptation is incomplete.TPN therapy can maintain body weight, but only TPN can not result in the adaption.Gln-supplied TPN can stop the remaining itestinal mucosal atrophy, and promote the remaining intestinal adaptation and colonic mucosal hypertrophy.
