Objective To assess the contribution of the portable chest computed radiography (CR) in evaluation of monitoring devices of the patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods One hundred and sixty-two cases with 387 chest radiographs in the ICU were analysed retrospectively. The location of the catheters of monitoring devices and complications were observed. Results The malposition of the catheters was detected in 47 cases(16.9%),including the endotracheal (ET) tubes too deep at the position, the central venous catheters placed into the internal jugular veins, and the position of the thoracic drain tubes to be deep not enough causing the drain to fall. The complications after operation of monitoring devices were not common, including pneumothorax caused by ventilatory assistance, atelectasis and pneumonia caused by malposition of the ET tubes, totally in 11 cases.10 cases with cardiopulmonary abnormalities were discovered accidentally in all 162 cases(6.2%) when evaluation of monitoring devices. Conclusion Bedside chest CR not only can show the catheter position and the complications of the monitoring devices ,but also the cardiopulmonary abnormalities of patients in the ICU.

BACKGROUND:Drug treatment for senile dementia has unsatisfactory outcomes although to a certain extent it can reduce and delay the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Stem cel transplantation is a new attempt for the treatment of senile dementia.
OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel transplantation on the behavior of senile dementia rats.
METHODS: Rat models of senile dementia were made in 20 Sprague-Dawley rats that were given continuous 60-day gavage of aluminium chloride solution. Then, model rats were randomized into model group treated with normal saline injection and experimental group treated with hippocampal injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels, respectively. Another 10 rats undergoing normal feeding served as control group. Learning and memory ability of rats were tested by Morris water maze, and superoxide dismutase activity and malondialdehyde content in brain tissues of rats were measured by colorimetric method at 4 weeks after cel transplantation.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the model group, the escape latency was shortened and the cross-platform frequency was increased in the experimental group (P < 0.05), and moreover, significantly elevated superoxide dismutase activity and reduced malondialdehyde content in the brain tissues of rats were found in the experimental group (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel transplantation contributes to behavior improvement in senile dementia rats by improving the learning and memory ability.

Objective To investigate the effect of acute exhausted exercise in high temperature environment on the expression of myocardial HSP70 and plasma ANP level of in rats. Methods Forty eight male Sprague-Dawley rats was randomly and equally assigned to the following six groups:control group(C),exercise group(E),one-hour heat exposure group (H), heat exposure and exercise group (HE), exercise and 24 hours after exercise group(E'),heat exposure and 24 hours after exercise(HE'). Each group consisted of 8 rats. Rats in E,HE,E' and HE' ran on a treadmill until exhaustion, while rats in H and H' were exposed in a high temperature environment (33℃ ,50%RH) for one hour. Rats in C,E,HE and H were killed immediately after exercise or heat exposure. Rats in HE' and E' were killed 24 hours after exercise. Samples from myocardium and serum were collected for determining HSP70,ANP and CK-MB. Results(1) HSP70 levels in groups E and E' are significantly higher than that in group C(P<0.05 and P<0.01,respectively),and the level in group HE' is significantly higher than that in groups H and E'(P<0.01 );The HSP70 level in group H is significantly higher than that in group C. (2) The ANP and CK-MB levels in group E are Significantly higher than that in group C.and in group HE is higher than in group H (P<0.05);The HSP70 levels in group E' and HE' significantly decrease comparing to that in groups E and HE (P<0.01). Conclusions(1)Both heat exposure and exercise can induce the increased expression of myocardial HSP70 in rats and the peak expression is seen 24 hours after exercise. The increased expression of HSP70 may have protective effects on the heat-induced myocardial injury. (2) The increased ANP levels in plasma immediately after exhausted exercise improves the blood circulation in myocardium and hints the potential possibility of myocardial damage. However, the high temperature environment does not strengthen the increase of plasma ANP level that caused by exhaustive exercise.

Objective To compare the effects of different anesthesia on immunologic function during perioperative radical mastectomy in patients having undergone preoperative chemotherapy. Methods Sixty ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients, aged 28-64 yr, weighing 55-70 kg, scheduled for radical mastectomy, were studied. Thirty patients received preoperative chemical therapy for 3-4 weeks were randomly divided into CP group and CS group ( n = 15 each); thirty patients received no chemical therapy were also randomly divided into NCP group and NCS group (n=15 each).Propofol at a rate of 4-6 mg·kg-1·h-1 was infused in group CP and CS and sevoflurane with the end-tidal concentration of 1.5%-2.5% inhaled in group NPC and NCS to maintain anesthesia. Peripheral venous blood samples were taken before chemical therapy, before anesthesia, immediately after operation and at 72 h after operation for determination of the levels of T lymphocyte subsets and NK cells and plasma CK19 mRNA expression (by RT-PCR). CD4+/CD8+ ratio and the micrometastatic rate of the tumor cells were calculated. Results The CD3+ , CD8+ and NK cell level were significantly lower before anesthesia, immediately after operation and at 72 h after operation than before chemical therapy ( P < 0.05). The CD8+ immediately after operation and NK cell level at 72 h after operation in group CP, and CD4+ and NK cell levels immediately and at 72 h after operation in group CS were significantly lower than those before anesthesia ( P < 0.05). CD4+ and NK cell levels immediately and at 72 h after operation were significantly lower in group CS than in group CP, and in group NCS than in group NCP (P < 0.05). The CD4+/CD8+ ratio was significantly lower immediately after operation in group CS than in group CP ( P < 0.05) .There was no significant difference in the micrometastatic rate of the tumor cells among all groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Sevoflurane combined anesthesia has a stronger inhibitory effect on immunologic function in radical mastectomy patients with preoperative chemotherapy than propofol combined anesthesia.

Objective To construct, express, purify and identify the gene encodi ng major outer membrane protein of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Porin I, or PI). Metho ds The gene encoding for PI of N.gonorrhoeae was amplified by PCR and cloned int o expression plasmid pGEX-4T-2 to form pGEX-4T-2/PI recombinants. A high lev el expression of GST-PI fusion protein was obtained in GST gene fusion system (GST:glutathione S transferase). The analysis indicated that the expressed pr otein was present predominantly in the insoluble form. Therefore, the induced pr otein was purified by SDS-PAGE, and bands corresponding to polypeptides of GST-PI fusion protein were excised and subjected to electroelution. A dot immunoch romatographic assay was employed to demonstrate whether the purified protein was gonococcal PI specific. Results The pGEX-4T-2/PI expression recombinants were constructed, expressed, purified and identified successfully. SDS-PAGE analysis and dot immunochromatographic assay suggested that the recombinant GST-PI fusio n protein was a 60 000 molecular weight protein andidentical in size to native PI and reacted with anti-PI monoclonal antibody. Conclusion Our results may lead to a potentiality for further study of diagnosti c kits and vaccine for Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
